Games with majority female roster

Playing Arms I noticed that a majority of the cast is female (well, 4 females, 3 males, and 3 ambiguous cases). At first I thought "hey, that's neat", but then you realize that shouldn't really be a novelty? (Edit: the ambiguous cases may be less ambiguous than I thought, and the DLC so far is the nail in the coffin for Arms)

It reminds me of Towerfall Ascension, which has a majority female cast that provoked a similar reaction of "oh, cool - wait, this should just be a trivial thing?".

Any other good examples of definite playable gender parity or female majority? Ideally not held up by ambiguous cases like "well, Charizard could count as a girl". And don't even bother mentioning Dead or Alive Beach Volleyball.

Pocket Fighter was the first mainstream fighter to have a majority of women =D

Gal Fighters for the Neo Geo Pocket Color is 100% women.
...and Iori Mrs X

Clock Tower the series.

The first game:

Tyranny has a majority female party members.

DOA Extreme
At least use Senran Kagura, pretty much every Compile heart game, or something along those lines after he said not to mention dead or alive beach volleyball.

The main non-customizable party members of Xenoblade Chronicles X are both female.

Here there are with a customized female protagonist:

Dead or Alive 5 was the installment to finally switch get things to female majority in that series right?

There's a lot of Japanese games that qualify, but still have a definite 100% skew towards a very male target audience. The Arcana Heart series is a particularly illustrative example of this. You can also point at pretty much any harem VN or RPG.

There's actually 4 dudes in ARMS (Spring Man, Ninjara, Master Mummy, & Kid Cobra), not 3.

But yeah, Skullgirls comes to mind as far as rosters with mostly ladies go.

How about some serious answers before the OP cries. XD

Until Dawn actually has a majority female cast if you count the sisters.

I was also thinking about The Last of Us, and it might be fairly equal.

Touhou.

I think you can count the male characters on one hand. Rinnosuke, Youmu's grandfather, that turtle, Unzan...

edit: Wiki says there's more than that but still, female characters are like 95% of the franchise.

Uncharted the lost legacy or whatever is probably the first tripple AAA game with a female lead and supporting character.

A better question would be how many games have a cast where the majority of characters are women while not simultaneously encouraging the player to stare at them via shameless pandering.

Life Is Strange, Mirror's Edge, Heavenly Sword all immediately came to mind,

Any Mass effect.

Create a female main character, use only females in your squad and ignore all the male interactions, it becomes an all female sci-fi story.

Resident Evil 2, when counting the main 4 characters (Leon, Claire, Ada, Sherry).

There are more males overall (6 to 4, at my last count).

Hijiri Myouren, Byakuren's younger brother.

But yeah, he's dead. So he wouldn't count.

EDIT: Oh yeah, and that Fortune Teller!
But he's ALSO dead!

Dead or alive isn't even particularly skewed towards female characters.

At least at launch the roster is usually 50:50. It's just that the women get all the marketing.

In general japanese games tend to have lots of female characters, though many of them are probably not in the spirit of the thread.

Hyrule Warriors, not sure about the DLC though

Technically the DLC makes it equal with 30 playable characters, 15 males and 15 females (and a Cucco). Hyrule Warriors Legends on 3DS still works though since the Boss mode where you can play as Ganon was removed.

Edit: And I guess if you count Link's Great Fairy weapon as her own character, that's another female which would make even the Wii U version count.

The roster in DoA5 is indeed mostly female as of Last Round (more than just the case of them being the focus in marketing). Still applied even with less characters in the original DoA5 too, though. DLC outfits are very much skewed toward female characters specifically as well.

This. Now the question suddenly becomes very difficult to answer, lol.

I can think of:

> Final Fantasy V
> The Last of Us: Left Behind
> Uncharted 4: Lost Legacy (at least, most probably)
> Hyrule Warriors (vanilla -- Cia is crazily sexualized though, but the others are OK)
> Odin Sphere Leifthrasir (Mercedes is sexualized, but the other 2 aren't too bad, especially for a Vanillaware game :P)
> Trails in the Sky: Second Chapter (has more playable female characters by 1!)

If robots like Clap-trap don't count as male (not sure if they should or not, guess he has a male VA but he's not remotely human looking), then Borderlands: The Presequel has 2 women, 1 robot and 1 man (who is also kind of a robot/cyborg lol). :P

That DOA volleyball game.
Reading OPs is hard huh

Surprised there is not more talk about this. It's so weird to see a major game starring two women. It's Thelma and Louise esque.
And it's fucking awesome. I want to see more of that. Especially female anti-heroes. I want moar

At this moment Gigantic has a bigger number of female heroes on the roster (though it stays mostly balanced, it usually depends on the last hero that is added), since Tyto's gender is not known (it's unknown on what's behind the mask).

I made a little montage to show the female heroes of the game.
