Games with REALLY satisfying endings

I thought the Last of Us ending was pretty appropriate for the narrative.

I second this! EXCELLENT ending...if somewhat...disturbing. I can't remember a game effecting me so emotionally before...it was in my head for DAYS afterwards. Heck, most movies don't have such an impactful ending. Naughty Dog was on their "A game" for this one!

Pandora's Tower (S Ending)

Ghost Trick

Ace Attorney 1-3

Grandia - The music made this ending. Loved it when Leen's theme kicked in when seeing
Gaia's purified form
and carried on as we see all the cast in the aftermath of the last fight.
Still not a fan of the ass-pull Leen revival, mostly because Mullen was an asshole who didn't deserve a Justin-level happy ending. It was better that he regretted his actions that killed her and learning from them then getting 100% rewarded at the end. The ending was happy enough without her coming back.

The best, Wonderful 101. I love bookend style endings, collages of memorable moments from the game, slow piano renditions of main themes, and splash collages of all the main characters in a single image. This one had all of them and since the game was so difficult, I remember every single enemy very vividly which made the ending image so amazing.

Red Dead Redemption The Thread

That moment that the title appeared, you knew the game ended, and it felt so satisfying.

Satisfying endings? Definitely Red Dead Redemption's true last hidden mission. Truly satisfying after what happened before that. I hope most of you actually found the mission lol

TLOU wasn't really that satisfying to me.
I mean yeah, he saves her.. But there's no cure and they're still fucked. Pretty sure there are still more bad guys who know about Ellie's resistance to the mutation.
It left me anxious for a sequel if anything.

Hitman Blood money had a satisfying ending for me too.
Killing that smug prick with the white hat who slurped his tongue around was very satisfying.

Final Fantasy VI. I thought the entire ending sequence for this game was incredible. The cast roll as we see everyone trying to escape, loose story points tied up, and
the constant wondering if Terra is going to be able to exist in a world without magic
. Just amazing in my book.

Red Dead Revolver.

To this day the ending of the last mission still sticks with me.
Listening to Diego try to talk his way out of the situation, and Red's response where he nonchalantly puts a bullet in his head to shut him up was perfect.

I think all of the FF series post-VII had really satisfying endings. At least I never came away thinking "that's it?"

The entire MGS series has great endings, too.

I can't really think of any other game or series that matches those.

Valkyria Chronicles. It's always good to see what happens with the characters a few years after the main story. Great closure.

Red Dead, for realsies. I also really liked the end of The Last of Us. Like others have said, the ending of The Walking Dead Season One is pretty great as well,
passing of the torch and all
.

Dragon's Dogma true ending especially if you romanced a certain person. I feel they accomplished what Assassins creed 3 and Mass effect 3 were trying to accomplish with their ending; trying to make the player have a :O moment.

Even the "first" ending is pretty cool as it reveals a cool twist I don't think many saw coming till a certain fight.

Final Fantasy VIII. The music perfectly capturing the mood of each scene, the final moment of Squall's character growth coming to an end, every single story tying up even though some ended tragically just made it so perfect.

Yoshi's Island has one of the best endings in videogame history.

What's that? Yoshi's new island? don't be silly there is no game with such name! that doesn't exist, i mean, could you imagine someone trying to make a sequel and change such a perfect ending? that's crazy talk!

;____; fuck you nintendo.

Wind waker needs more love. The entire final sequence from right before the final battle with ganondorf to the ending is just incredible and filled with so many powerful moments

Max Payne 2's final quote is a tidal wave of catharsis.

For me:
Persona 4 Golden. Those were my friends!
Infamous 2 good ending
Final Fantasy IX
The Last of Us
MGS 4

Reading all the posts about Persona 3's ending gets me excited with recently starting P3P on Vita.

Shadow Hearts series, particularly the Yuri games.

Even if you got the bad or good endings, both feel satisfying and complete.

^The three above me are masterful.

You can probably guess the games by the following awesome moments alone...

"... You made me happy."
*salute*
"Dawn of a New Day"
"No. Not alone."
*Suicide Run*
"See you next mission."
"Still Alive"

I'm generally a fan of endings where they re-visit all characters (Ace Attorney), or show off all enemies and locations (Mario, Dynamite Dux). And of course, it has to have the good music to go with it.

Two that stand out at the top of my head are Zelda III: A Link to the Past and Ghost Trick.

So much Metal Gear. Guess I should get into MGS-mode and finally play through 4 and PW...

I think I've seen a lot people saying they didn't like it, especially for a Zelda game, but I remember A Link between Worlds having a wonderful ending that made me smile.

I thought The Witcher 3's ending was great too,
probably because at first I thought I got a different ending, but was surprised what ended up happening.

Super Mario 64 and Ocarina of Time still have my absolute favorite endings because while the credits are rolling the game takes you back to all of the spaces you explored. It's a very poignant moment and drives home the adventuring aspect of those games. And then there's the very tasteful post credits scene.

For me the game's narrative is built upon player action and interaction. Spatial exploration is the cornerstone of this idea and revisiting those spaces during the credit sequences highlights all of the moments that were unique to your experience.

It's too bad most games have abandoned this style.

Conker's Bad Fur Day - Yeah I said it.
A game that doesn't take itself serious for even a second and is filled to the brim with juvenile toilet humour jokes throughout its entire playthrough. Then does a 180 within the last 30 seconds before the credits roll with a very depressing and melancholic monologue by the protagonist. The credits are accompanied by the sounds of the wind and thunder. You can basically see the ending as the last joke of the game: an anti-joke.

Terranigma also hits me right in the feels.

Final Fantasy VIII has the most satisfying ending of any game I've ever played. There were a ton of loose threads and yet, all of them were tied together in perfect length. They showed you the parallels between father and son, Laguna and Ellone's fate, and what became of Seifer. The credits hand-cam was a genius move too.

Mass Effect 1
Mass Effect 2
Mass Effect 3
(if we count the Citadel DLC as the true ending. what? it almost feels like an ending!)

Super Mario 64.
Star Fox 64.
All of The Metal Gear Games.
Final Fantasy VI.
Nier.

Too many but those are the ones that come to mind. I remember being a kid beating Super Mario 64 and Star Fox 64 and my eyes teared up because they were such good games. Nier is fantastic and it was work, but good work nonetheless. Final Fantasy VI and the Metal Gear games are my favorite games of all time, such incredible games.

Final Fantasy VI, VIII, IX, X
The Wonderful 101
Metal Gear Solid, 2, 3, 4
Xenosaga Episode 3
Yoshi's Island
A Link to the Past, Skyward Sword

The Wonderful 101.

The entire last boss
and QTE
is the stuff dreams are made of.

Controversial one from me: Mass Effect 3.
For MY Shepard
the control ending
fit in perfectly. The others weren't even a choice and I'm fine with not having a perfect happily-ever-after ending.

The jungle planet was still just random though.
