Games With Sad Endings

The Walking Dead Season 1 is the only right answer here.
Yes, definitely. I think this game's ending made me miserable for a whole week after finishing it :(. TWD Season 2 also had pretty sad endings.

Also, Valiant Hearts had a very sad ending, and To the Moon had a bittersweet one. The Last of Us had a very interesting ending in that
I didn't really know how to feel about it, part of me felt sad but the other part was very relieved Ellie was still alive.
Personally, I find tragic endings and sad stories to be a lot more enjoyable. I don't know why, but they always seem to interest me more. I guess when you know a story is going to have a happy ending, it's a lot easier to predict how it's going to happen, as opposed to something that averts your expectations and doesn't end with our hero riding off into the sunset.
I'm just like this as well! A game is often much more memorable to me if it ends on a sad note.

Damn, I forgot Silent Hill: Shattered Memories. That was tough going.

Yep this one is incredible and unbelievably underrated. My second favourite Silent Hill story (after 2), it might lack the subtlety of the Team Silent titles but goddamn the plot twist at the end is perfect. Impossible to see it coming, and yet makes perfect sense. I would argue that the ending is bittersweet, as regardless of which ending you get ENDING SPOILERS
Cheryl still manages to overcome her childhood trauma
but yeah, great stuff.

Entire first page without a single mention of Shadow of the Colossus? For shame GAF!

That ending brought a tear (or several) out of me. Depressing shit.

Lufia 2's ending still sticks with me after all of these years. I remember it hitting me pretty dang hard as a kid.

Wild Arms 5 was such a punch in the gut. Basically
the girl stuck in a time loop with small hint that it's slowly changing, but the ending just had her start again from the beginning without the party ever knowing.

Transistor

Red beats the final boss, but decides to rend her soul with the transistor so she can be with her love. Dooming the world to restart from a blank state.

Conker's Bad Fur Day ended on quite a sad note.

Despite Conker being king, he was an idiot and forgot to revive Berri with the help of the developers after she was killed.
Might have been said already but the ending is a lot more darker than that.
He didn't want to be king. He didn't want all the responsibility or be surrounded by people who irritated the fuck out of him.

FFX's ending almost made me cry. It was so good. Because you know what is going to happen, you don't want to end the game, yet even when it happens and you're prepared you're almost crying..

Back before Zero Esxape 3 Zero Time Dilemma was announced and we had heard of how Uchikoshi had moved on to other stuff the ending for Virtue's Last Reward really hit me. Not that it was particularly sad but knowing that (at the time) that we'd never see the resolution to the trilogy...it's a feeling of despair I've never experienced before.

I could say the worst ending in Mass Effect 2 is sad in a way, but to get that ending seems like you've earned it at that point.

Lufia 2: Rise of the Sinistrals.

This ending really hit me emotionally as a kid. First game that had tears welling up in my eyes.

To The Moon, not from how sad actual ending is, but how depressing the story is. The more you think about it, the more you realise it.

Anything by fumito ueda is probably going to murder your heart and just give you a what the fuck just happened moment.

Both ICO and Shadow of the colossus did not have happy endings.

This thread made me start Soul Sacrifice.

My picks: Nier and Valiant Hearts.

I am proud of you man.

In turn I will pick Valiant Hearts and Nier out of my backlog to play next. I love games with good stories and well written characters that can move you emotionally.

9 Doors 9 hours 9 people (not sure if the title correct xD)
It has multiple endings, and the best one in my own opinion is
the safe ending

I never understood this.

In both games they bailed out at the end. Ico was kinda ruined for me, when you find the girl on the beach post credits. In SotC even the dumb horse survives with a jolted leg. It also turns out it was good to kill the colossi because it's actually some devil.

Majora's Mask has some really sad sub-plots even if they have a good resolution
Skull Kids backstory is really sad to me

Mother 3's final fight still brings a tear to my eye

The Walking Dead Season 1

Mother 3

Major ending spoilers:

Sheeeeeeiiiit! That's intense! Now I understand why Mother 3 is considered the best of the trilogy and one of the best RPG's ever.

Nintendo, localize the hell out of this for the VC plz.... Don't leave the trilogy unfinished.

plz

You got it wrong there pal. The colossi were
seals to contain Dormin. Killing them all freed the demon. So really Wander quite possible fucked over his world royally in selfish pursuit of his love
