Games with the worst load times

GTA: Online absolutely takes the cake. Never before have I waited so long to try and load something up just for it to fail and load even more. How I retained my sanity to reach level 100 is beyond me.

Why does it boot you back to single player when something fails to load in GTA Online. That's the worst part. I can deal with the incredibly long load times on their own but having the game force me to load single player and then load GTA Online again to get into freeroam really grinds my gears.

It gives you time to contemplate the error of your ways and ultimately come out a better player.

A blessing in disguise really.
I guess that's one way to look at it. Though, the fact they can't even match PC ds2 load times with new hardware suggest the bd bottleneck is still a thing or from hardcoded those load times to make it more immersive. Ya...immersive as fuck looking at that loading screen.

Bloodborne. 45 seconds to load after each death.

Damn, that's disappointing. I hope it gets patched, but I know it's unlikely. :(

I'm pretty sure they wouldn't hardcode 45s load times.

I also think the entire game gets installed on the hard drive, so the blu-ray speed wouldn't be a factor. I believe this is standard on PS4.

DA: I.
I rather run nearby or stop doing a mission to avoid the loading screen.

But from what I have seen of Bloodborne, BB will be #1.
You will die a lot in this game, and if you are doing badly...welp, I hope you need to write an essay or an exam to study since those loading times will add up.
I know I will be doing my taxes, and writing my fan fiction on Luigi and Peach.

Lego City Undercover on Wii U is pretty bad for load times. Great game though.
I was going to list a bunch of bad games with unacceptable loading screens, but this is probably a better avenue to follow. Lego City Undercover is a game I really liked, in spite of its frequent and long load times. What a shame.

Another one is Okami on the PS2. It still is one of my all-time favourite games, but those loading screens were a colossal bummer. The developers noticed and tried to add a mini-game in the loading screens to alleviate it. You could earn a form of in-game currency that you could spend on neat items, but a few hours into the game, you'll have bought all the things you wanted already. Then all you'll be left with the loading screens that hinder you from exploring and interacting with such an interesting and lively world.

Even though i was joking, I wouldn't put it past from with all the weird unorthodox techniques they have tried ever since the original kings field. Man, console gaming is rough with all that waiting.

I thought that Bloodborne thing was a joke. If that's real, that's a pretty big damper for something that's probably going to be difficult.

Max Payne 3 on PC. Sure, the game isn't actually still loading 30 seconds into the unskippable cutscene, but the game insists otherwise, which is enough.

If we were to speak of new games, i'd say Bloodborne.

(what follows in this spoiler text isnt really spoilers IMO, but someone might go crazy, so i just did it like this)
Loading screens vary from 30 to 45 seconds, and the loading screen is nothing but the title of the game. No artwork, text or anything. Just the title.

Lets spin this into a good thing.

Now we can browse gaf and other sites between load times. They actually did this on purpose.

Littlebigplanet, all of them, especially if you go online co-op.

Every PS1 game ever.

Sonic 06, has long loading screens that load long loading screens, WAT!?

If only FROM had done like in previous games, by adding a screen with some random item or NPC. Would've made things less boring.

It seems like they took the cheap route this time. Just slapping on the "Bloodborne" logo. Makes it look like a tech demo.

Destiny. It takes so fucking long to go to the tower or switch characters. Thank god you can do menu stuff while it loads or it'd be unplayable.

Gothic 3. You had enough time to go to the toilet, make yourself a drink, drink that drink, slowly walk back to your pc and the loading was still going on

Destiny was also pretty bad, just because you had a loading screen before everything you want to do (go back to earth and sell stuff and then going back to the action easily take 3+ minutes)

Talk to a guy
One minute loading screen
Guy tells you what the mission is
One minute loading screen
Do the super short mission
One minute loading screen
Guy congratulates you
One minute loading screen

It also seems like the game loads the entire town and all its assets again just for a small in-engine cutscene. It's the only explanation why everything loads so long and especially so often.

This will be before a lot of you guys times but back when games shipped on cassette tapes and the average game took 5-7 mins there was one game I got for Xmas, Arnies Armchair Americas Cup Race which took a whopping 40 mins!!! FORTY MINUTES!!!!!

Many reviewers said that Codename:Steam has unskippable waiting periods between each turn. While it's technically not a loading screen, it's supposed to sometimes take up to a minute after each single turn (the "enemy movement" phase). You can do nothing during that time aside from moving the camera - since there is no overhead map, even your options for considering moves during that time are limited.

I was mildly interested in the game, but long stretches of waiting in any game is a complete dealbreaker for me.

I think my mind has blocked that experience. The unskippable cutscenes (proven to not load anything after about 10 seconds on PC) made me never want to revisit the game after first playthrough. Overall the game is a worst case example of game developers wanting to be movie directors.

Not surprised. I mean, that company has been doing that for almost a decade.

DAI is quite fast for me and I'm using SATA II. No more than 15 seconds to load things. Usually it's more like 10 seconds.
What are you playing it on?

The Bloodborne talk is a bit of a shame. I won't be playing it anyway because I don't have a PS4.

Crash Bandicoot: Wrath of Cortex was a pretty big offender.
First one I thought of. Not only did they insult us by starting the trend of shit tier Crash "games" but they rubbed salt in the wounds with those load times. Why the fuck was the game squuezed onto a CD?

I can still hear that sound effect in my nightmares.
