Games you have a love/hate relationship with

For me one game exemplifies the love/hate dichotomy more then any other, and that game is Marvel vs Capcom 3.

I love the game to death but at the same time it makes me so salty. I don't think there is any other game that I've sold and bought again more times then his game. I can't count how many times I've written it off as complete trash to only buy it again a month down the road. When I love it I see it as a skill based game with nearly unlimited depth. When I hate it the game turns into random coin tosses and it doesn't matter how much I've practiced.

What games do you guys love/hate, and why?

Metro 2033.

The atmosphere and the fiction are great, but the execution with the weapons, the AI, character conversations, potential are just bad.

Halo (post-ODST).

Its like watching the Star Wars prequels. You know they aren't that good, but your love for the originals keeps you coming back.

Playstation All Stars Battle Royale.

Every week I find myself downloading it to my Vita, then playing it for a couple days before getting completely pissed off at the lack of balance. After which, I delete it from my Vita and forget about it for about a week.

This on/off relationship has been going strong for the last 6 months.

Dark Souls. Probably explains itself, lol.

Doesn't explain itself, necessarily.

I have a love/love relationship with Dark Souls. There's nothing for me to hate other than the fact that II is still 8 months off.

On topic: Thus far (I haven't finished) The Last of Us is my front-runner for love/hate.

Smash bros.

Topic of character choices and other stuff manages to piss me off to no end. As show in the smash thread in some random page, and the reason why I stopped going there. But I can't help but love playing the game with friends and laughing at doing a bunch of dumb shit in the game.

Dynasty Warriors/Samurai Warriors/Musou Titles.

Loved DW7, but man Omega Force isn't doing jack shit to gain new fans in the series and to retain many some of the older fans as well, seeing as most fans of the series I know including myself have been playing DW for roughly a decade now, maybe a bit longer.

I go through phases where I feel like playing a Musou game for hours and hours on end, then next I go into a phase such as right now where I don't really feel like killing hordes and hordes of weak enemies with horrible AI. Yeah, it's weird.

Devil Survivor Overclocked.

It's probably my absolute favourite SMT game, but the additional 8th Days are atrocious and end up spoiling the entire game for me. Like a fancy dinner ending with a dog turd.

The original Darksiders. I like a lot of what they tried to do. But as shallow as it might be, I detest the entire art style of the game. Like I literally find it off putting to the point where it makes me not want to play the game.

DmC is another one. I miss old Dante. But I sorta like seeing a new take on the characters. And I know that Capcom doesn't have the money to have two separate Devil May Cry franchise running around. Not to mention the brand confusion it would cause. So one of them is going to disappear for awhile (or forever).

FIFA..love football, I enjoy the occasional match but if I play more than two in a row the BS and awfulness of the game begins to shine...I stick to two game sessions

Call of Duty. Sometimes I love it, a lot of times I hate it. Can't deny it's fun factor at times, but you also can't deny it's shitiness.

Besides Blighttown frame rate, I hate the fact I ran out of builds to explore and how static the environment is now that I've gone through it so much. The Dark Souls II wait is killing me.

Resident Evil 6

Objectively, I know it's terrible. But there's just something about the melee mechanics that keeps me coming back over and over.

Grand Theft Auto IV

I bought it shortly after release, and yet I still haven't beaten it. I like to complain about how bad it is, but playing other open-world/city crime games makes me wish they were in some aspects more like Grand Theft Auto IV.

In the end, I think it comes down to that beautiful euphoria engine. I hope I enjoy Grand Theft Auto V as much as I did Red Dead Redemption.

The Uncharted games. I love the characters and plots and the gameplay. But I don't feel right gunning down hundreds of other human beings with a character presented as an average joe.

League of Legends as well, but because I'd like to learn how to play it but I'm really bad and the community is really mean to me cuz I don't play well.

Might as well add Skyward Sword.

So much right with dungeon design, characters, world design, artstyle, item inventory in real time, some of the fighting mechanics.

But man the pacing, some of the fetch quests, handholding, Fi, some of the motion control and others just detract to it.

A game with some of the highests highs but with the lowest lows.

OMG Fifa....the unluckiness and bullshit I've experienced during certain games are unparalleled.

And I guess COD also haha....I've raged so much at COD online, and still continue to go back.

I love Dirt 2 races but OMFG I hate the menus/music/racer bros bullshit.

Love/hate?

Probably MGS4.

I never really followed the story and 50% of the game is just cutscenes....a movie. Just boring IMO.
I love the gameplay so much....but when u get caught, it's over...even if you hide.

Ahahah I totally agree with u. It's like skaters paradise.

Tales of Symphonia. The combat is sooo boring and simple, the story is so cliched and dumb, with like the most generic fantasy/RPG tropes sprinkled about. But the story is sooooo dumb and the characters are all so likable in their own stupid, goofy way that I love the game to bits.

The MGS series. Amazingly detailed gameplay and clearly a labor of love. Magnificently niche with a success that astounds me (in a good way). But the cutscenes--Jesus Christ, the long-winded, repetitive, self-satisfied, sometimes offensively-anime cutscenes. They wreck the game's tone, pacing and even when you skip them, it hurts the game because it's impossible to figure out what you're trying to do without them.

Came here to post this. I play exclusively online, and the game can be exquisite in that oh-so-rare match when you get a good connection. But 90% of the time it's a rage-inducing lag-fest of sluggish controls and brain-dead players.

Nothing else gets me so damn angry.
