Games you remember, names you don't

I have one, and I have almost nothing to go on.

I think it has some exploration elements, you're walking around a city or small town. There's something about a girl who's mom has been locked in the attic or a room because she's "changed" or have been turned into a monster.
I believe there is a scene like that in the OG Xbox, Call of Cathulu: Dark Corners of the Earth. Was this an FPS?

Hard one here :

- Top down RPG that you have to get Crown from different elemental Kingdom
- Have 100 day to finish the game because a black cloud go up prevent you to visit place at buttom
- MS-Dos game
- I think it as the Word element or elemental in the title.

Please help me !
Challenge of the Five Realms?

Looks similar but I don't think it's that one, I don't remember him changing forms, and the levels were all very green and colorful.

I think he went up and down on branches or big roots.

I didn't like the game much so I don't remember how much I advanced in it. My mom used to rent the same couple of games.

The name could be the character's name, starting with "Y" maybe.

Could be Jerry Boy/Smart Ball (not the same game as Jelly Boy)

This is a weird one and not completely pertinent to the topic, but maybe someone can help.

So, you all know Donkey Kong.
Some of you might have played it in the arcades when they were much younger and so did I. Point is, I remember a slightly different game from the original Donkey Kong you can MAME. Different sounding at least.

This has been bugging me for years, but I remember different jingles and most importantly, Mario let out a "yeap!" with each jump. I can't be thinking of a different game, I don't think so. I might have been 5 or 6 but I remember that voice so clearly.
But it's not there in the game, at least not in the original version. Problems with emulation ? Missing sound samples ? Or maybe just a different version, official or unofficial, that I couldn't find ?
Halp.

I loved this game so much and used to rent it all the time but ummm N64 game you run around on floating tiles and try to get all the gems or w/e, some tiles flip or fall into space and you can't backtrack. Game is 3D there are a ton of levels, maybe 99. Some levels have a boss that's trying to stop you, he's just a giant floating face or maybe in a little ship? He looks like a mad scientist.

Crazy Kong (DK clone by Falcon).

I'm looking for SNES (i think) game where you control a big ass mecha, more artillery like than something like evangelion, the robot was pretty agile and the gameplay was great, might have been made by konami but IDK.

This isn't a game I don't remember the name of, this was originally for the "Guess the (game) image" thread, but nobody answered. So I know exactly what game and version of the game this is from.

A most-hated enemy:

Fear his sudden appearance!

What is that from ? :)

Looks like Choplifter on the Atari 7800.

Game Boy.
Shmup form left to right.
You were a human (I think) and fought of something like a giant robot snake/dragon.
I never finished the first stage I believe.

Burai Fighter Deluxe or Battle Unit Zeoth? If not, no idea.

PC adventure game that takes place in a small town where you wake up in a house and can't remember anything. When you step outside, you talk to the newspaper boy and he pulls a gun on you and kills you if you don't say the right words. Later, you have to steal something from the principal's office at the high school. I don't think it was an FMV game but I think the characters were modelled like real people similar to first Mortal Kombat.

Harvester

It's available on GOG.

Hopefully I can get some help with this.

Think back to the early PC games, like around Chip's Challenge era, but I think a little later. We were playing both at the same time in any case.

There was this platforming game, that I thought was called Astroman, where you play a little astronaut climbing ladders, avoiding traps, etc. Each level was like one screen and reaching the goal moved you to the next level, that type of platforming. I guess it was more of a puzzle game like Chip's Challenge, too.

Most importantly it had a level editor that had all the features of the regular game, and my cousin and I played this endlessly making levels for each other and I haven't been able to find it since. It's been driving me crazy for years.

There was one I played in a famicon when I was a kid, it was in japanese so I dont remember the name.

You were a little ninja running to the right side like a mario game and several black ninjas are trying to kill you.

You can use a lot of power ups like flying (maybe like hover), getting invisible or run super fast displayed on the upper part of the screen, when you chose one of the powerups there was a sound like "whooooooooshhhhh" and collect eggplants for whatever reason.

Hopefully I can get some help with this.

The game you're describing sounds a bit like one of the MicroMan games, but I don't know if they featured a level editor.

Here are some screenshots:

There was one Ps2 game that I used to play all the time. I remember there being a lot of puzzles, it took place in and near pyramids, and I think I turned into a mummy halfway through??

Maybe someone can help, but when I was younger there was an atari game that took place in the woods...and there was a wolf.

That's literally all I can remember. It was my first exposure to video games, and I'd really like to know what it was called.

While this thread is bumped, there's a couple of games I remember from the arcades circa 1991-93 that I have absolutely no idea the names of.

-A side scroller beat 'em up in the style of Final Fight but the characters are sword wielding ninjas. I believe first player was blue, second player was red. I vaguely remember one bad-ass move that I'm thinking was some type of spinning fire uppercut slash. I feel like this would've been a Neo Geo game.

-A first person game where you walk around fist fighting enemies, and your fists were always visible on the screen (with finger less gloves). I think it may have been on rails and that you didn't have any control over movement (I could be wrong about this). I'm thinking like a hybrid between the arcade shooters with physical gun attachments and Mike Tyson's Punch Out (weird as that may sound). This game seems surreal in my mind and I can't even begin to piece together the concept of what the game is about or how it really plays. I only got to watch this being played a few times as I don't recall it being in the arcade for very long.

Edit: Solved in under ten minutes!

Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy.

Ninja Combat?

Ninja combat and super spy, both neogeo games

Yep, good call. I was just looking through a top 50 list of the greatest Neo Geo games of all time, and Super Spy came up in the 20s. That's definitely the game, thanks.

Well the description was very accurate and the game really is one of a kind :)

I'm not familiar with the Atari consoles but I've seen some candidates. Note sure if they have wolves in but they have what looks like Trees in some form. Pitfall, Jungle Hunt or Forest. Complete guesses.

Well, there's a creature on the very first screen of Pitfall II that kinda looks like a wolf (it's supposed to be a mountain lion):

This is actually not a name question but more of a "did this exist" question.

I have a memory of a large Street Fighter 2 arcade cabinet where instead of the normal six button inputs, it had... and I'm not joking... one (maybe two) giant button that was kinda soft and you were supposed to hit it really hard. The harder you hit it, the more powerful your attack.

Did I dream this or what? I swear I remember this.

I think I only played the demo of it, but it was a PS1 game where you're parents were kidnapped, and you played as a boy or a girl ad you had to go through the house killing monsters, but it wasnt violent. It was like with a water gun and stuff.

I might be forgetting stuff, but I played this about 15 years ago.

That's a real thing, but I think it was only for the original Street Fighter. I played on one and it was definitely before the SF2 craze started

I've been searching for this shareware Windows 93.1 game since I played it as a kid, and I hope you guys can help.

What I remember:

The music was "The Entertainer"

It was a 2d puzzle-ish game where you had to navigate a (blue?) blob to the door while avoiding enemy fire, boulders dropping, etc. When you moved in a direction, everything else moved accordingly. Nothing moved unless your character moved.

I remember calling the game "Archy" when I was a kid, but I believe I was calling it the wrong name.

Help GAF!

EDIT: IT'S ARCY! Jeez, don't know why I didn't realize that.

I've recently been thinking about a side-scrolling beat 'em up I once played in an arcade in the early 90s.

It was basically a more colourful version of Final Fight. The first level was a train station, and I *think* the boss was a train guard who used a giant ticket puncher as a weapon, though I could be misremembering. The final level was a museum/art gallery.

I've been trying to rack my brain remembering the name of this one racing game which involved futuristic hovercraft racing over all sorts of environments (like water, lava and snow).

I vaguely remember there being pick-ups in the game and the AI occasionally taunting you.

Help me GAF.

EDIT: Forgot to mention it's a pretty old game. It was probably released before 2000.

Might need more details. So far it just sounds like any F-Zero-type game except that didn't have pickups. Wipeout has weapons. Any idea what system it was on?

I remember playing it on PC. It definitely wasn't Wipeout as it looked way rougher. The game had really early 3D (dunno the specific term for it) but if you look up Magic Carpet 2 you'd get a decent idea of how the game looked.

You might be more specific than you think you are - it could, perhaps, be Hi-Octane. That's on the same engine as Magic Carpet, IIRC.

Nah, that's not it. I looked at a screenshot of Hi-Octane and I don't recall racing on concrete surfaces. It was always either water, lava or ice surfaces.

Lode Runner? Sorta fits your description and I'm pretty sure there was a level editor.

You guys are super close, but not quite I don't think. It definitely wasn't MicroMan and Lode Runner is incredibly close to what I recall. It's definitely got me on the right track looking for games like Lode Runner.

EDIT: The game that seems like 90% similar to what I'm thinking of is Jetpack released in 1993. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jetpack_(video_game)

It was so much like that but I know for sure you were a little astronaut dude like with a helmet and everything.

EDIT 2: I found it! It was called "Astro Man!" after all. Released in 2001 surprisingly, I thought it was much older but I guess I would've only been 10 then anyway. By a developer called Cellosoft. I can't seem to find any legitimate source of the game though interestingly enough. This is the best source I can get: https://archive.org/details/AstroMan There is like no information on this game on the entire internet.

Hmm... Slipstream 5000 could fit the bill but it's closer to flying. Otherwise I'm at a loss and not coming up with much that seems to fit your criteria with my searches.
