Games you will buy day one at full price...

Nadda. Nothing. Zilch.

Why anyone would still buy a game day one that had bad reviews is beyond me. At least wait a couple of days to see if the user reviews are any better. What's the big deal about waiting those couple of days that people find so hard to do?

Because the only opinion that matters is mine.

Battlefield 1. I feel like this will make me move on from BF4 after skipping BF:H and SW:BF especially after trying the beta.

The Last Guardian. The game could get 1/10s and I would still think it was worth full price just to see it in my hands.

Also Gravity Rush 2, Nier Automata, Yakuza 0 and Resident Evil 7 but I have reasonable faith that those games are going to be good.

Upcoming: Steins;Gate 0, Gravity Rush 2, NiOh, NieR: Automata and Danganronpa V3.

I doubt any of them will review poorly but I can see NiOh getting railed by some reviewers.

Game press rating scales tend to be around 60 to 70 for mediocre in most cases. For it to dip below 30 it requires it to be a more extreme case of bad, so no.

Most games I'm interested in I am so enamored with that reviews are irrelevant to me (Persona, Nier, Yakuza, Kingdom Hearts, Yooka-Laylee, FFXV, Last Guardian, etc.) - I want the experience regardless of how it turns out.

Yeah, that's true for me, too. Those are good games you mentioned.

Here is my list:

  • Persona 5
  • The Last Guardian
  • Mass Effect Andromeda (most anticipated)
  • Horizon Zero Dawn
  • Yakuza 0 (not quite sold)
  • Yooka-Laylee
  • Nier
  • Gravity Rush 2 (second most anticipated)
  • BotW
  • Cyberpunk 2077
  • Next Elder Scrolls

Most of those come out in the next 6 months or so. I'm going to have some conflicts.

Review don't really matter but even for a game like Breath of the Wild I wouldn't pay more than 40€ digital. The most I've paid for a digital game was Super Mario Maker, it was day one and it cost me ~33€.

Yakuza 0
Persona 5
Nier or Nioh (must sacrifice one of them. Bad release schedule)

And if we are talking in general then:
Devil May Cry 5

EDIT: Oh, we are talking about reviews. In that case then, yeah I don't really read many of those. The critics gave MGSV 90+ scores while I found it to be extremely boring. If I'm not sure about a game I just wait to get some user feedback mostly through Gaf and some other places, before deciding whether I wanna buy it at full price. Don't really care about reviews or scores anymore.

I doubt I'd even by hyped for a game that was going to score less than 30 on metacritic--for The consensus that low the warning signs would be there pretty early on.

Just for the upcoming titles.
- TLG
- Persona 5
- Yakuza 0, I feel like I'm robbing Sega blind getting 4 and 5 from Plus, so pre-ordered this game.
- FF XV, not so sure anymore because of pro and because it releases near TLG.

I try to buy every game i am waiting for, on day one. .

The next ones are:

Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2
The Last Guardian
Battlefield 1
Final Fantasy 15
Yakuza Zero
Tekken 6
Persona 5
Tales of Berseria
Zelda

Off the top of my head:

The Silver Case
Nier: Automata
Xanadu Next
Owlboy
DoDonPachi Resurrection
999
Cuphead
Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night
Ys VIII (pending platforms)

There's a lot of games I probably would buy day one if I could, but current gen non-handheld consoles are just not in the cards for me at the moment.

I don't care how much water is in the game, I'm getting Pokemon Sun and Moon day one.

And Destiny 2 most likely unless they change thr formula waaaay too much.

Feel like my answer echoes a lot of others in this thread. The three games that immediately came to mind before reading even the OP were:

Mass Effect
Pokemon
Shin Megami Tensei (Persona and other spin offs included)

After reading the OP MAYBE Mass Effect would be taken off. But only if it got completely horrible reviews. I honestly don't even think I'd look, or have ever looked, at reviews for Pokemon or any SMT game, so that wouldn't be a factor.

After reading through a few posts in this thread a couple other games came to mind, mostly Nintendo titles. Like I'm gonna get the new Zelda day one for sure. But yeah, Mass Effect, SMT and Pokemon were my very first thoughts.

the last guardian (already preordered)
wild guns reloaded (already preordered)
dangun feveron
battle garegga (already preordered)
ni-oh
nier automata
new hot shots golf
final fantasy xv
candle

and... I think that's basically it going forward.

Pokemon
Tyranny

Pokemon is Pokemon. Gonna be hard for them to fuck that up. I haven't played one since Soul Silver so the new one is going to be a huge upgrade.

I've enjoyed every Obsidian RPG. I doubt Tyranny will be the exception.

Halo (main entries)
Mass Effect
Pokemon
Dragon Age
Zelda (home consoles)
Mario Kart (home consoles)

That's about it. Really those are the only franchises I play these days due to time restraints so it's not that big of a deal if they're not critically acclaimed.

Right now, just fighting games so that I'm learning the system when everyone else is learning it. More fun that way, I feel.

I pre-order a couple of games per year and I do that based on my opinion of the series/creators/pre-release footage and so on. I don't read reviews.
But if it would get reviews THAT bad I would promptly cancel/get a refund because something must be pretty much unplayable to get such a score today.
So no.

Red Dead 3 and Elder Scrolls 6. If they're great, great! If they're not, I'd still need to see the catastrope for myself if they turn out to be dogshit. Otherwise, I'm not brand loyal enough for anything else to survive a barrage of bad reviews or impressions.

Nintendo games, that's about it. I'm not buying all their games of course (Metroid Federation Force is last example) and I can skip some if reviews, opinions are not good (Code Name: S.T.E.A.M is last example) but if I want to try something I'll just buy it no matter what (Chibi Robo is last example).

Also most of their games don't drop in price so why waiting if you want the game.

For me, its games like Halo Wars 2, Mass Effect Andromeda, Destiny 2, the next true Metroid game, a Darksiders 3 if it ever exists, next Tomb Raider/Crystal Dynamics game, or the next Souls game. Those games are virtually sold for me already. Day one for all of these. It's series I love, gameplay I adore, and unless the developer makes huge changes to the entire thing, they are all day one right now, previews/reviews be damned.

Sorry, I don't mean to be off topic.

But I would buy a game based on the Daredevil netfilx.
Marvel's Daredevil - Season 2 | Ensemble I want a game like this!.

Just imagine a game that you can control Daredavil, Electra, The Punisher, Luke Cage and Ghost Rider..

I want Marvel Super Hero games that feels like the Batman Arkham games and the new Mafia 3 game.

I preorder or buy day 1 if I'm excited and it makes me happy. That's all that matters to me.

With that said, I understand those who are on a tight budget and need to wait.

Destiny 2 I'd probably pay well over normal game price for. Maybe even a few hundred dollars if they made me. I really really like it =)

Others would be:
Red Dead Rethree
Final Fantasy VII remake
The Last Guardian
Timesplitters 4
The next 3D normal Mario
Zelda

Thats about it that I'd go completely blind on. I'll also most likely get World Of Final Fantasy day one but will wait for reviews to see if I should pay full price.

a possible recent example for me will be mafia 3. I'm aware that reviews won't come until after launch but i've been looking forward to this game.

Nier Automata and Persona 5, but I don't see any way of either or those getting bad reviews.

I would say FFXV, but it'd be a lie. IF that game ends up being terrible (there a decent size chance), then I'll cancelling my preorder.

I don't usually preorder games but Activision got me with the Infinite Warfare Digital Deluxe Edition.

Modern Warfare RM Campaign & MP
Infinate Warfare Campaign & MP
Zombies
Map Packs

All for $100... Pretty sweet deal IMO!!!

LB

Cyberpunk 2077 100%
Maybe: horizon ZD

But i have sooo big backlog I can keep buying used games for half the price...

Mass Effect Andromeda probably. Mass Effect 1, 2 and 3 are some of my favorite games, and Mass Effect as a franchise is dear to my heart. I'd buy Andromeda day one even if it got bad reviews (unless it's an absolute technical mess).

And bad reviews doesn't mean I can't have fun with a game.

Same for me
