Games you will buy day one at full price...

Death Stranding

There's 30 years worth of games from Kojima and not a single one of them has let me down. His games are the reason I still play.

It's hard for me to completely trust reviewers. I haven't come across one that tries to be completely objective about a game or have a person who loves the specific genre AND someone who doesn't like that genre both do reviews. A lot of them are basically 'courted' by the publishers for their review score also. Because of that, I just don't put much stock into reviews. (I am aware this lumps them all in one category, I'm sure some are much better than others.)

I generally try to find teams that I really like based on the games they put out and support them with my wallet. Those teams as of today are:

Rockstar
CD Projekt Red
Naughty Dog
From Software

Would buy any game they put out sight unseen at full price. Until I get burned twice. Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me.

Any of the Yakuza games. They've earned it but also by the time they come to the west reviews are out on the Japanese release so it's pretty easy to pre-order with confidence.

Dishonored 2 is an actual gamble but it's so unlikely that I'd regret pre-ordering that I don't lose sleep over it.

So far I'm pretty happy with my track record on pre-orders too since I've only done it with MGSV, Borderlands 2, Borderlands: the Pre-sequel, VA-11 Hall-A, MGR:REVENGEANCE, and Clash of Heroes:Might and Magic PC version.

Op didn't say anything about bugs you're pretty much adding that in. Adding a score was probably bad but the general premise is will you still buy a game even if it scores poorly

Anyway on the topic absolutely
Ffxv
Kingdom hearts anything
Ni no kuni 2
Op said "... regardless of how bad the reviews are." and I'm bringing up some specific examples of what that includes. I'm not adding anything.
The general premise is will you buy a game regardless of how bad others say it is and why.
But people are just doing lists of titles or claim they couldn't be that bad so the topic is screwed anyway. :)

Mostly I only pick up Nintendo games at near full price (20% off Prime or Gamers Club Inlocked) day one. Since Nintendo games keep a much higher percentage of their MSRP I feel confident that if I pay near full price it will retain the majority of that value after a few months or even longer. I know it frustrates some but I actually prefer knowing that a game is likely going to retain its value after I buy it then be worth a fraction of what I paid sometimes mere days after buying it.

There are a few Sony/MS/3rd party games I will pick up on day one but those are not nearly as common. For the most part it would be a Collector Edition/Limited Edition that sells out before launch. Otherwise I normally cancel the pre-order knowing I can get it at a signicantly cheaper price if I wait just a couple weeks. There are still exceptions that I will pick up day one, or close, but it's really really uncommon.

NieR Automata. The first game had so many low score reviews and so I skipped it for a couple of months and got FFXIII instead. Such a big mistake. NieR is one of my favorite games and one of the reasons I learned not to listen to reviews as much.

(In order of release)

Pre-Order -

01. Mafia III
02. Gears of War 4
03. Battlefield 1
04. Titanfall 2
05. Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare
06. Watch Dogs 2
07. Final Fantasy XV
08. For Honor
09. Horizon: Zero Dawn
10. Ghost Recon: Wildlands

Black Friday -

01. Rise of the Tomb Raider

50/50 Undecided (If I decide yes, then the game automatically gets pre-ordered the weekend before the game releases) -

01. Resident Evil VII
02. Yakuza 0
03. Sniper: Ghost Warrior 3
04. Hitman
05. Nioh

The worse a game is the faster it drops in price. No Man's Sky can be found for $23 now, a month and a half from release.

While I'm tempted to buy The Last Guardian on release, I might as well wait a few months.

I have to stick to the Guybrush philosophy.

That being said, World of Warcraft 2 would have to be Day 1 no matter the price. I know there are still new expansions for WoW but if there were to be an entirely new game, I'd be there.

BATTLEFIELD
Any Friction Games title
Any Kojima title
Any CD Projekt title
Resident Evil 7

The next Silent Hill :(

pretty much just Nintendo games. I was glad I bought the new Star Fox despite not everybody loving it.

Will probably grab the new Mass Effect as well, no matter what the reviews say.

If the reviews and benchmark sites confirm that it's TECHNICALLY bad, as in poorly optimized and buggy as hell? I'll wait until it's fixed.

However if it's getting poor reviews based solely on subjective issues, I would still buy it if it peaks my curiosity enough.

Yeah I agree with this. If the poor reviews are mostly subjective and it's a franchise/developer I'm a huge fan of, I'll still play it myself and decide whether I agree with the reception. If it's a broken game technically not much you can do other than wait or rent it.

As with most others Nintendo guarantees a purchase.

As for other systems:

Gears
Halo
Forza Horizon
Civilization
Lego
Destiny 2

Rez
Final Fantasy XV
Gravity Rush 2
The Last Guardian
Kingdom Hearts 2.8
Yakuza 0
Persona 5
Horizon
Final Fantasy 12
Nier Automata
Tales of Berseria
Kingdom Hearts 3
Rain World
Dangnaronpa 3
Ys 8
Mass Effect
Ni No Kuni 2
Final Fantasy 7 Remake
Spiderman
God of War

Mainline Mario, Zelda, and Metroid releases. I'm not the biggest Nintendo fan these days, but the classic trio is too hard to resist.

I don't care what the reviews are , any gravity rush game is bought Day 0.

That is all.

Also any game from the tonelico franchise.

Shenmue III, because Yu Suzuki deserves to return to game dev. If I wasn't already a KS backer, I'd preorder the game as soon as it's available.

Literally every game I already want. I've been playing games for 25+ years I'm pretty aware of what I like and dislike.

If I'm on the fence, I wait, if I am interested then I go ahead and get it when it is out.

With mp shooters I feel if you learn the maps on launch you won't get wrecked as much as opposed to picking up the game 2-3 months down the road when competitors have done learned the maps and feast on newbies

Next ones are Titanfall 2, Battlefield 1 and Mass Effect Andromeda, though I won't technically be paying full price (Prime discount on Titanfall 2 and Mass Effect for Xbox One/Origin Access discount on BF1 for PC).

Off the top of my head i'll be buying the following at full price despite what reviews say:

World of Final Fantasy
Final Fantasy XV
Gravity Rush 2
Ni-Oh
Nier: Automata
Gwent: The Witcher Card Game (single player campaigns)
Horizon: Zero Dawn
Tales of Berseria
Ys VIII
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

There's more, but I don't want to get too far ahead of myself with release dates.

I'll be getting the last guardian day 1 even if the review average is 3/10. Couldn't care less about the reviews of this game.
