Games You've Beaten in July

Mass effect 2 ps3. better than 1, still bad.
mass effect 3 ps3, better than 2, few good parts, mostly bad.
megaman 9 ps3, bit too hard.
megaman 10 ps3, much easier.
Rain ps3, damn it was boring. good ending.

Trying to clear unfinished games and get rid of ps3.

PS VITA
-Final Fantasy X (Platinum)
-Zero Time Dilemma (Platinum)

PS4
-Uncharted 2
-Uncharted 3

Fantastic games. Currently playing Danganronpa 2 and Until Dawn.

Absolutely nothing. My summer term classes have been kicking me in the teeth so not much gaming for me. The only thing I have been playing at all is a 100% run on Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D. I'm right under 20hrs and at 72% over the past month. Thank God my finals are over next week :)

Xenoblade Chronicles X
xenoblade-chronicles-x-banner-artwork-wiiu.jpg

It took me a little over 100 hours to finish this game and while it exceeded the previous game's hights I thought the overall experience of the first game was better.

It's a hort mobile interactive narrative but it outclasses Telltale and Quantic Dream by a significant margin because its writing is so much better and the choices are so much more interesting and meaningful. Highly recommended (Android / iOS).

Illusion of Time/Gaia
illusionofgaia-coveru.jpg

Wonderful action-RPG that reminds me of the Ys series but highlights exploration as a core ingredient. It's also much better paced than the Ys games I've played.

PS4:
God Eater Resurrection (Platinum)
Soma
Odin Sphere Leifthrasir (Platinum)

PS Vita:
Adventures of Mana (Platinum)
Zero Time Dilemma (Platinum)

PC:

Resident Evil Revelations HD
Wolfenstein: New Order
Binary Domain

Three great games (imo) finished. Hard to choose which was my favourite experience as they were all a blast.

Blood&Wine. Took me almost 2 months and I still have a ton of sidequests to do (yeah, I don't have a lot of time). Best expansion ever.

I think the only things I actually beat were Fire Emblem Fates: Birthright, and Ashes of the Singularity (SP campaign, which was kinda short, not counting the scenarios). I have way too many RPGs on the backlog...

Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE [Wii U]: It scratches that Persona itch.

Star Ocean V: Integrity and Faithlessness [PS4]: below expectation, but still decent.

Gravity Rush Remastered [PS4]
: good game, though the camera can be a bit wonky sometimes.

Cibele [PC]: it's very short, the MMO part is boring, and the theme isn't for me.

PS Vita:
Zero Time Dilemma - it took me only two days
Trails of Cold Steel - this took me several months. Never really get into it

Super Mario Bros. 3
Super Mario World

Each on original hardware. This is probably the millionth time I've beaten those games. That's why they're among the greatest of all time. I don't get tired of them no matter how many times I play them.

Salt and Sanctuary. A Cool 2d metroidvania game with a heavy Dark Souls influence.

Played it because I'm a big Dark Souls fan and while it certainly wasn't a bad game it started to feel very monotonous near the end and I was glad when I got to the end.

Are you sure this is the games title? I can't seem to find it on the iOS store.

Jet Set Radio
Phantasy Star IV
Age of Decadence
Thief Gold
Painkiller Black

Five very different games. All great fun.

Jet Set Radio became one of my favourite games. Bunnyhopping around in Painkiller was a blast. Can't wait to play Thief II. Replaying Age of Decadence atm, and will do again. Phantasy Star IV was just classic.

Inside.

Fantastic game.

I just started Ac4 black flag. This is my first AC since AC2. So far I'm not impressed by the graphics at all and I'm running it in 1440p max graphics.

Va-11 Hall-A
Star Ocean 5
God of war 3 HD
Last of us HD

Almost done with Infamous Second Son and Gravity rush.

Prince of Persia Sands of Time
Prince of Persia Warrior Within
Prince of Persia The Two Thrones

Those were replays, but still having a good time with the PoP trilogy. Could have finished the Forgotten Sands yesterday but stuff happened.

This month I will try to finish Gravity Rush Remastered and 7th Dragon. Probably gonna add Age of Decadence to my playlist.

I beat Call of Duty: Ghosts on the PS4, came with the console when I bought it used and I thought: "Hey, why not?"

Gotta say, that game has a lot of innovation... Other than the narrative itself, I thought it was really good! Levels were pretty innovative and I believe that's the first Call of Duty to use contextual cover, so yeah, that's pretty cool.

Liked it a lot.

35. Sonic the Hedgehog 3 / Sega Classics (Steam, 2016/07/31, 2 hours)

Super Smash Bros for Wii U
I finally beat the classic solo mode with all the characters. Good game overall but I probably won't touch the series again. I'll finish that event mode eventually though, that was maybe the best part of the game.

Monument Valley
Great esthetic and interesting idea. I bought an Android phone last month and I hope to find similar games on the store.

Gone Home : console Edition
I'm glad I got it for free. The boredom is not the problem, the genre is like that, but the story is not really interesting and the visuals are really basic so in the end of the day the game does not retains much value.
However it's not awful and I have not the impression to have wasted my time thanks to the short length so eventually the experience was still worth it.

Limbo Revisited after 6 years in prep for Inside. Feelings remain that it is enjoyable for a few hours, but did not resonate.

Inside See above. Solid, albeit straightforward, by the end I did not walk away thinking nearly as much about it as many seemed to have.

Headlander Would have it finished, and platinumed, by now if a game-ending glitch did not halt my progress at the very end. Waiting for a patch fix so I can wrap up the final hour or so, but ultimately it was one of the best Metroidvania-clones I have played in recent memory.

Still working on several other games:
-Mad Max
-Doom 2016
-Trails in the Sky
-MonHun 4U

Had a big break at the beginning of the month where I didn't play many games but I ended it strong. I have a feeling I'll be beating a lot more in August since I've got a recumbent bike that'll be here tomorrow which I'll game on.

Grow Home (7/1)
Quantum Break (7/17)
Life is Strange (7/28)
Limbo (7/30)

Yoshi's woolly world
Great game its a bit easy but I will go back and get all the flowers and yarns i missed.

Witcher 3 Blood and Wine
What a journey witcher 3 was! one of my favorite games and the DLC's are well priced.

Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam
Super Mario Land 2
I am Setsuna
Mighty No. 9

With my shows being off season, had a bit more time to play this month. Though I started Mario & Luigi in June iirc.

Dishonored: The Knife of Dunwall DLC
Hydrophobia: Prophecy
The Park
The Room Two
Submerged
Beyond Eyes
Haven Moon
The Journey Back
Refunct
Hook

Fatal Frame III: The Tormented
Demon's Souls

Currently playing Dark Souls. Have already bought Dark Souls II: SotFS and Bloodborne GOTY.

I've fallen in love with the Soulsborne series.

-Red Dead Redemption: Thanks to Backwards Compatibility, could finally finish it after several years (my late game save got corrupted and started all over again). As I only had one main mission left, I already knew it was a masterpiece. Top 10 in my all-time list.

-Need for Speed 2015: I waited for it to be included into EA Access´ Vault. It´s no Forza, but it´s better than what I expected. Great "always night, always rainy" graphics, relatively fun campaign. Cringe-worthy but well acted cutscenes. Boring multiplayer.

-Dark Souls III: Finally got it after waiting for an offer. Loved it: IMO it is the best in the series, even having replayed DS and DS2 recently just to train before DS3.

-Costume Quest 2: I admit it; I played for the gamerscore. Still, it gave me 8 fun hours.

The Technomancer: enjoyable RPG with an interesting setting, that backtracking though
Arx Fatalis: amazing first person RPG with hilarious dialogue, fun quests and very engaging gameplay
The Secret World Issue 12 (To The Dark Tower Below), Issue 14 (Call of the Nameless), Issue 15 (The Sleuth's Gallery): two very enjoyable Orochi-themed dungeons in 13 and once again great storytelling in 14. Also really enjoyed all the investigation quests from 15. Just wish these issues would come out more frequently.

June:

Magical Pop'n (SNES) - 3/5

Pretty neat action-platformer. Not really exceptional, though - the stages are largely overlong yet sparse (things do tighten up near the end though), the earlier bosses are a little on the weak side, and although you have a pretty large arsenal of weapons, most of them aren't very distinct from each other and are largely not that useful.

July:

Mighty No. 9 (PC) - 2/5

Actually pretty solid mechanically - I like the dash and the concept of having to use it to finish enemies off - but the level design is kind of sloppy, with occasional awkward, hard-to-read instant death traps (which are sometimes even covered by dialogue boxes) and repetitive segments. There are some pretty downright poor levels too (like Countershade's and Call's). The bosses are generally solid, if sometimes tedious. Honestly, with just a few improvements I think this game would pretty much be on par with the later NES Mega Man games.

Momodora: Reverie Under the Moonlight (PC) - 3/5

Forgot to write something up for this when I originally wrote this post lol. Solid game - great art and music with a good-feeling player character and moveset - but enemies and bosses aren't particularly interesting to fight, and the map is a bit on the simplistic side (compared to Metroid games).

Furi (PC) - 4/5

Great all the way through. The bosses are almost all great, have a lot of variety, and do a great job at pushing you to learn your moveset in satisfying ways. I'm not sure I'm really that into the retry structure, though (the way you get lives back upon defeating boss phases can make progress through earlier boss fights feel a little tedious if you're "trading lives" with them. I think the dodge feels a little finicky too, due to its chargeable nature (and therefore the way it only triggers when you release the button) - clearly a design choice, but still slightly awkward.

The Evil Within (PS3) - 4/5

Fantastic third-person shooter. I love how the seriously pushes you to make every shot count due to the scarcity of ammo (honestly, this game is better about that than the classic Resident Evil games), and having to juggle the wide variety of useful offensive tools available to you in any given combat scenario alongside your stamina meter is really fun. Art design is great too, but I'm not really into the storyline (backstory is kind of interesting, characters largely aren't) or the dreamlike, disconnected nature of the game's stages. I think the bosses are actually pretty high-tier as far as third-person shooter bosses go, although it's unfortunate that most of them fall to similar tactics (agony bolts). Maybe not Mikami's best game, but I don't think it's very far behind Resident Evil 4.

3ds
Rhythm Heaven Megamix
Kirby Robobot

GC
Finished Baten Kaitos and Origins again, also Tales of Symphonia (my 50+ something playthorugh...)

Wii U
Finished Bayonetta 2 again

Ps4
Tales of Zestiria again
Hatsune MIku Future Tone (technically you cannot finish it, but I played all songs in all difficulties and unlocked every mode)

Just to say I was semi-productive, I did make it to High Rank in Monster Hunter Generations. That's kind of like a short game in and of itself.

After 80 hours, I finally beat Persona 3 Portable. Could've done it in 70, really didn't need to grind as much as I did.

Zenge on iOS. Nice little puzzle game.

Beat the first 3 missions of Dynamite Cop. Don't think I'll be doing the gimmick runs in Showdown mode. Finished.

Witcher 3 and all DLC. Started around mid June, finished around 20th of July. Now I'm just plowing my way through NG+ on Death March.

Costume Quest + DLC
Moirai
The Stanley Parable
LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens
Deathspank
Dead Island: Retro Revenge
Moon Hunters
Gone Home: Console Edition

Stacking
Spec Ops the Line
Flow
Flower
Journey
Psychonauts

Very good month for me. All first time plays.

Psychonauts was the best of the bunch.

oh also oxenfree... that was a cool game.

Yeah I played that in June, one of my favourites of the year so far.
