Games you've beaten or dropped in September

I know this is a couple of days late but I want to jumpstart this topic again. In the past Games Beaten and Games Quit were separate threads but I'll combine everyone's submissions and post it on next month's board.

Games Beaten:
Splatoon 1 campaign
Planescape Torment

Games dropped:
Shadowgate

Shadowgate is a great throwback to old school adventure games. Unfortunately the trial and error gameplay just frustrated me to the point of giving up and so I dropped it. Might restart it in the future when I have a taste for a Tomb of Horrors experience but for now I'm off to other games.

Games Beaten:
Gears 5 (loved it :pie_sfwth: )

Games Dropped:
What Remains Of Edith Finch

I only dipped into it briefly but Gears took up all my gaming time. I'll start it again at the weekend.

Games beaten:
Astral Chain
Links Awakening
Catherine Full Body (planning to do other endings as well)

Games Dropped:
None

Beat:
Witcher 3
Path of Exile (the 10 Acts)
Inside
Nier (My GOTY)
Bloodstained
RE2
Spec Ops: The Line

Dropped:
God Eater 3
Ni No Kuni 2
Ashen
Outward

I play too many GaaS stuff and to many long plats this last month.

Beat:

Man Of Medan (Working on Platinum)
Final Fantasy VIII (Platinum)
Borderlands 3 (Platinum)

Dropped?

Who drops games ;)

Beat Red Dead Redemption 2. It was amazing! It started off really slow but it was sooo good towards the second half of the game. Especially the last part!

Beaten:
Red Dead Redemption 1 (9/10)
Dark Void (7/10)
Remember Me (8/10)

Biggest surprise was Remember Me. Great game, really liked the premise and setting, the fighting is simple but very entertaining and allows for doing it your style. Dark Void is very fun when everything comes together, but it can be also very average and wastes a lot of potential. Red Dead is obviously amazing duh

Spiderman on PS4. Was a solid 8.5/10.

The combat and traversal gameplay as well as the visuals were great and I enjoyed the story more than the recent MCU Spiderman Movies. Design wise it was pretty by the numbers and I think both the bosses and big setpiece moments could have been better, but everything else was so fun that it's one of the first generic open world games where I've actually taken the time to do most activities...and had fun doing so.

I dropped games in September. Maybe I'll play some this month.

Beaten only two:
Borderlands 3 - 7/10 - I'd rate it on a similar level to Borderlands 2, has better shooting mechanics and cooler locations, but worse villains and quests.
FAR: Lone Sails - 7/10 - Cool little game, not too hard which makes it an enjoyable ride (literally). A shame it has at least two annoying trophies and doesn't have a platinum as incentive to fight for them. ;)

Beaten:
Assassin's Creed (yes the first one)
Oninaki

Dropped:
What Remains of Edith Finch (i may give it another chance in the future but i didn't liked it at all)

Beaten:

Batman Arkham Asylum - 9/10

Fantastic game. Tried it years ago and it never really clicked with me. Thought I'd give it another go with it being on Game Pass and just couldn't put it down. Completed all riddler challenges too. Looking forward to jumping into City followed by Knight.

Crash Bandicoot 2 (Switch) - 8.5/10

Another great game. One of my favourite platformers of all time. Took a bit more time on this one compared with the first in order to obtain the gems. Believe it or not, I went through the entire first game not realising smashing all the boxes is what earned a gem! :messenger_grinning_sweat: On to Crash 3..

Dropped:

Blair Witch - May come back to it eventually, especially this month (fitting).. but I wasn't really feeling it in the hour or so I played.

Still playing FF8, just got to Ultimecia and er after a 30 minute battle she one-shot me with Apocalypse. I'll get back to it eventually because apparently high SPR helps not die.

Wasn't going to mention it but I dropped DOOM (2016). Found it repetitive and while it's fun for a while, I don't get the appeal of shooting things over and over for 10 hours. Certain comments have suggested it's best played in bursts and I don't disagree with that but it's not something I find motivates me to continue.

Also moved onto Analogue: A Hate Story.

"Beaten" Atelier Rorona DX.

Doing another playthrough since I only got the normal ending and missed so many events and got destroyed by optional bosses at the end. Using a guide this time. >.>

Beaten:
Gears 2 - one of the best third person shooters ever
Gears 3 - meh

Dropped:

Gears Judgment - very good game and better than 3 but I'm burned out after two and a half Gears campaigns back to back. I'll finish it this month
Far Cry 5 - GTA countryside but bullshit. The setting and villains are bad IMO
Far Cry New Dawn - not bad but lost interest after 8-10 hours, probably won't ever finish it

Beaten
Astral Chain - Strong GOTY contender so far. I was skeptic going in since i disliked Bayonetta but AC is just incredibly fun

Dropped
Nier Automata - Grabbed on sale after beating AC. Combat is not nearly as engaging as in AC, spamming dodge seems to be all that's required. I dropped it halfway through part B and did look up a synopsis which confirmed what i thought the story twist was. I loved the amusement park but other parts such as the factory were tedious and frankly part B did not change anywhere near enough to warrant a second playthrough

I juggle too many games at a time so rarely beat them in one sitting. Most recently was Gears 5. I still play Horde and Escape some, but story mode bores me to tears so far.

I spent the month sorting out my 3000 games long Steam wishlist 😬

Actually I beat The Forest. Very cool game though the caves are so so.

I dropped BUTCHER. It's too frustrating.

I finished my first Borderlands 3 playthrough. I can't call it "beaten" though

Well, in the sense of the single player campaign you could. You just can't say you've completed it, and usually on the big board I distinguish between those who complete a game 100% and those who've finished the main campaign.

I beat Xenoblade Chronicles. I was close to dropping it after struggling against the final boss, but thankfully grinding for a few levels makes a significat difference in this game. The conclusion to this epic story was very satisfying and Xenoblade cracks a spot in my top 20 JRPGs.

Beaten: Skekiro! It only took me 5 months
Dropped: nothing. I've been playing Skekiro for 5 months...

Proud to say to beat and platinum days gone. Put in over 100 hours and fuck the boost drift trophy.
Finished what remains of edit finch.

Dropped sekiro towards the end like hot shit cuz its the worst and now started dark souls 2 instead and cant put it down. I get the hate its a mess here and there but with the dlcs its a very cool game.

Dropped: Gears 5
I was neck deep in it, and my first child was born on the 10th and I haven't had the opportunity to play since.

September's been non-stop for me. Absolutely haram.

Beaten
Astral Chain
Excellent. I have some nitpicks (post-game structure, astral plane everywhere, ranking system) but Platinum are killing it.

Control
Also excellent, though I'd have liked it to lean more into its Metroidvania influence. Ahti is the best.

Daemon x Machina
Good fun until you finish the campaign and then the fun stops.

Final Fantasy VIII
Best mainline FF of the ones I've finished don't @ me

Link's Awakening
A lovely nostalgia bomb, though shame about the mangled seashell quest.

Outer Wilds
Imagine that one mindblowing twist from The Witness, now imagine a new one of those every 10 minutes or so. Amazing Majora's Mask space mystery. Also much better than The Witness.

Dropped
Ion Fury
I burned out spending 3 hours finding all the secrets on the first two levels, after which the game leaned in hard on what I'd consider to be bullshit hiding places. The shooting and level design are great, but I don't have the patience to scour it that hard.

What next? I have no idea :messenger_dizzy:
