Games you've recently convinced friends to buy

I kinda convinced a friend to buy Left4Dead off steam.

Unfortunately, he's the only one, except for me, who has things other than a Wii.

Convinced four other people to get L4D. We haven't been able to play too much of it, but everyone's been more than satisfied.

I played through Gears of War locally with a friend.

He enjoyed it, and picked up Gears of War 2 earlier this year as a result.

I'm sorry Mike, I didn't know.

Someone tried to convince me to buy Legendary.

After some pushing I found the reason he liked it was the music...

Left 4 Dead

Also, when I lived in Japan I convinced a student to get a Wii and PS3. But now she's pregnant and too busy to play either :(

Not friends, but customers. I suggested Fallout 3 and Yakuza 2 recently to different customers (well explaining what kind of games they were). They both bought the game and both returned them the next day because they were "all talky, no fighty".

Sometimes it's really hard to let people buy games, but I'm honest enough to say a game sucks if they ask my opinion. I talked people out of buying several games (Legendary and Haze are recent examples) and they seem to appreciate it. We allow people to try out all the games in our store and I encourage them to do so, so they can see for themselves something blows. It blows my mind how horrible most people's tastes are.

good man!

a friend convinced me to download the xbl l4d demo and we played together. I bought that game and love it

edit: not really a recommendation, but I bought my sister's bf No More Heroes for xmas, so it still counts as sales +1

Yeah, I actually convinced 3 friends to buy it. They all love it too! :D

I convinced my boss to get RB2 over GHWT for Wii. Prior to that, I've convinced friends to get Ace Combat 6 b/c they love dogfighting games, even though I personally hate them and didn't buy for myself.

To my friends, I am an apostle of Fallout 3 and The World Ends With You.
Working at Gamestop, I was also the catalyst for maybe half of the Shin Megami Tensei series purchases in eastern San Diego

I've gotten two people to pick up Tales of Vesperia, another to get Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo HD Remix, and am working on getting people to get the Mother 3 fan translation.

It's been a very productive month for me. :D

I convinced one friend to get TWEWY but he couldn't get into the fighting system, he liked everything else about the game though. I also convinced another friend to get Mirror's Edge but he hasn't played it yet.

Condemned 1, they got scared and now I got no friends

Over a month ago I had 4 other friends each try a 10 day free trial of WoW, and 3 of them kept playing. I am a bad person.

Convinced my friend to get Age of Conan...we both agree now its the best game we've played on any system. With the server merges for all pvp its now going to be a gank-fest....bring it bitches.

Not recently but...
Almost two an half years back I got a friend to play WoW, fuck do I regret that.
Totally changed him, his only topic of conversion become WoW, his only hobby, WoW. He flunked college, works a night shift now at a supermarket. To this day hes still addicted :-/
I ruined someones life. Game recommendations. Serious business.

I convinced a few friends to buy Street Fighter Anniversary Collection recently. I needed more competition on Third Strike.

I convinced my sister-in-law to buy Endless Ocean. Unfortunately, she didn't like it as much as I did.

I've also been trying to talk her into getting Lost Wind and World of Goo, but her Wii isn't on line so she hasn't taken me up on it.

I'll be trying to convince everyone I know to get Rhythm Heaven when it finally hits the States - assuming it's as amazing as the Japanese version...

This is a good thread.

I have based much of my purchases and future purchases based on word of mouth.

So, funny story on Left 4 Dead. I tell my friend I got it on the PC and that he should get it.

So what does he do? Buys it on the 360. Then he tells me sorry, but could I also buy it on the 360?

I got pretty irate.

LittleBigPlanet
Motorstorm: Pacific Rift
Ratchet & Clank Future
Uncharted
Killzone 2 (pre-order)

My friends often ask me for advice for which games to play, but they always turn my suggestions down. I did get one friend to buy an Xbox 360 with Gears of War and PGR4 so that sorta counts right?:lol

Yeah, that happens a lot to me too, not only with friends and family but also with my students (I'm a teacher). One of my kids just recently wanted to get a Wii game, I suggested Boom Blox, Super Mario Galaxy, Metroid Prime 3, etc. and he comes back the next week and tells me he got Sonic Unleashed and proceeds to tell me how awesome it is (I just bite my tongue).

A friend recently asked me for advice about Two Worlds - i'm sure I pretty much shat all over the game in my description (the phrase "buggy piece of shit" came about far more than once) yet a throwaway comment about how the game felt to me like a Balders Gate: Dark Aliance game in an Oblivion-esque open world totally convinced him to buy it, and even more bizarely - he's actually happy with it. Levelling up, looting & buying new equipment has effectively enabled him to totally ignore the shitty combat, horrendous bugs, boring & uninspired gameplay etc to find a totally playable and enjoyable game underneath.

Got a friend to get God of War 1+2, Okami and a lot of other great ps2-titles even though he doesn't have anything to play them on.
