Gamestop gave me the wrong game...

When I bought Yakuza 4, I opened the case when I got home and was really confused by the Yakuza 3 disc inside. GameStop sorted it out, but I was pretty pissed since it was "new". I don't think I've purchased a game there since.

Purchased Skate 2 a couple of weeks ago, in order to get my last trophy before the plat. When I got home I opened the box and Skate 3 was in there. Was pretty mad. That was the worst day in my life.

if you get a game you didn't want you can take it back and tell them.

It's not like they're going to say "fuck you you're lying get out of my store" when all it takes is a simple SKU check to see if you're telling the truth. If they're supposed to have 1 copy of skate 2 and have 2 copies, then obviously you're telling the truth.

wat

how does this even happen.

Dunno, just ordered through drive-thru and didn't open the bag until I got home and got this sandwich wrapped in a blue wrapper (back when they had em' in wrappers) and just said eff it and tried it out. Best mistake ever.

Filet o' Fish is so damn underrated.

My man! I'm surprised so many people don't like the sandwich, it's not bad at all! Kudos to McDonald's for not taking it off the menu yet and offering it for $3 sometimes.

Staying on topic though: I ordered Super Mario Galaxy 2 once from Best buy and got New Super Mario Bros. Wii instead. Called them back and they let me keep both games!

For every game they put on the shelf, they create one "display version", which is sliced open with the case on the shelves and the disc in storage. I guess they supposedly sell that one last.

One time I preordered a game and it ended up being the only one they got in stock, and when I came in to get it the store manager had already chopped it open and covered it with stickers. This was the last straw for me and I don't shop at Gamestop anymore.
Gamestop will even slice open the game you just bought right before your eyes. It's infuriating. Has anyone here figured out their rationale for that?

Not a Gamestop, but I almost got a random Musou thing instead of the import Suikoden 1+2 PSP game that I was buying at Bookoff. They couldn't find it/couldn't be bothered to hunt down the correct game so I went home game-less. :\

Haven't had it happen at gamestop but back when the ps2 was released blockbuster gave me armored core in with the NBA game I rented. Returned the NBA game got a free game.

Two instances, first being a Xbox 360 copy of Dead Space instead of the PS3 version. But that was easily fixed as I noticed the different disc as I was leaving the store.

Second time was buying a used copy of Enchanted Arms for PS3 at a stupidly low price online and when the game came it was a NA copy of the game that had stickers of the UK rating put over the ESRB rating on the sleeve. Didn't bother me much as the PS3 is region free.

One time I wanted to buy a used PS2 game and when I opened the case at home I realized it was actually the Xbox version of the same game. :lol

I took it back hoping to get the correct version but apparently they didn't even have it. That means they probably accepted the trade-in of the Xbox disc in a PS2 case as a PS2 game. Gamestop lol

Yeah I could definitely bring it back but it wasn't worth the hassle. I tend to exaggerate.

I bought a used copy of Modern Warfare 2 to try to play with some friends on PS3. The box was empty, in hindsight maybe the GS employee was trying to tell me something.

Once traded in Pikmin on Wii at CEX and the guy/till thought it was Pikmin 2 and I got extra £5.

Once bought Mario Golf on Gameboy to open the box and find Konami Golf, which tbh wasn't much different. Also bought some DS word game to find a Spanish learning game instead.

Don't think I have had any major gains. The worst one I had was buying a GBA game from Game, to take on holiday, and then get on the plane to find I had an empty box.

Recently I went to Game to get AC4 on Wii U as it was on offer only to find they had the discs, but no boxes as they had been lost/stolen. I told the guy to reduce it and just give me the disc, but as it was already on offer he didn't have the function on the till to reduce it more otherwise he would have been happy to do so.

Long ago I bought Dragon Quest Monsters Joker for my little brother. It was "shrinkwrapped". Opened the case, no game!

It was on that day that I learned that they sometimes rewrap opened games.

They never found the game either.

Congrats man. I saw someone buy Arkham City and get halfway out the door with an empty case, but never happened to me personally

So GAF, last week I picked up a Wii U, and have been going through a sizable backlog of Wii games I missed. Some of the games included the resident evil ports that made it onto the Wii. I didn't own a GameCube, so I missed out. I was more interested in playing REmake than Zero, but in my local Gamestop I could only find Zero. I bought it anyway, because I'd still been looking forward to playing it. Today I finally got a chance to play the game. Resident Evil Zero was not in the box. It was REmake. I'm pretty fucking hyped, and happy I didn't place an order for it on amazon last Wednesday.

So GAF, this ever happen to you? As in getting the wrong game in the box, and maybe coming out on top because of it? This isn't the first time this gamestop has given me the wrong game, but last time it was Lost Planet 2 instead of Left 4 Dead 2.

On a side note, can REmake run in widescreen mode on the Wii U? The system menu is in widescreen, but every game I've played has been 4:3. Just wondering.

TL;DR: Gamestop was retarded, gave me a better game than the one I payed for.

Can't say that I've had that happen, though there have been a few instances where I picked up a used game that was about $5, went to the register to pay for it and was instead given a new/sealed copy with the pre-order bonus DLC for the same price. Also I once bought a used copy of GoW 2 for $8 and inside it came with a valid/working code for all the game's DLC, which was really nice. Also since you're playing through REmake you might be interested in checking out FancyClown's LTTP thread and as for playing the game on the Wii U & a HDTV I found these settings:

TV Menu - HDTV Settings - Screen Mode/Screen Aspect Ratio - Wide/Panoramic
Wii U Settings - TV - TV Resolution - 480p & Aspect Ratio - 4:3

brought about the best results.

Happened to me when I bought Pokemon White 2. Got home, put the game in and then realised he had put White 1 in the box instead. I was livid!

Not the same situation as you OP but

When I was young I traded in the Rogue Galaxy demo as the full game. Sharpied out the RP rating and they took it without question. I was naughty

Woah, I've never seen that before. I can only imagine the reason would be to assert their dominance over the customer.

One time I bought Super Monkey Ball Advanced used. Opened it at home and not only was the cartridge inside...so was a cartridge of Wario Ware along each of their booklets.

****

And here we go..turning this into another "but Gamestop opens games!!" thread. :p

Gamestop opens one or two copies for display. Not every copy. And if they only get one copy and no preorders then of course they only open tbat one copy.

If your Gamestop opens every copy or heck..even opens it right in front of you after you asked for a new copy (as someone mentioned earlier)..then that store's manager or employee was an asshole and you should report it to thr district manager.

Went to get The Last of Us Remastered and traded in my PS3 copy, dude took like 5-10 minutes setting up a rewards card. Unless I dropped it somehow, he forgot to actually give me the card.

They have tried a few times, but I always caught it. Normally it was something minor like the wrong version of a game.

The only case I've heard of that is in the case of returns of open games (ie, an exchange for the same game due to a defect). The store is supposed to remove the shrink wrap to prevent you from then returning it to another store as new.

What was the context for your incident?

Happened to me once when I bought Sims 2 Pets for DS as a kid. Got a weird skate game instead... I got it changed though.

I bought Eternal Darkness and Gamestop ended up giving me the PAL version (and I live in the US).

I was... less than thrilled after spending so much time trying to find that game.

That happened with me and Ninja Gaiden Sigma for the PS3. For some reason they gave me the PAL version. Did some European dude trade his copy in while visiting the States or something?!

One time I bought Samurai Champloo and received Samurai Western instead. I wasn't that mad because neither game was what I was expecting.

When I worked there I accidentally gave someone the Battlechest Diablo 2 set instead of the regular Diablo 2. I didn't realize it until we did inventory and the guy obviously didn't feel like bringing it back.

Nope, but Newegg once shipped me the same $1000+ order twice (was only charged once). This was years ago when Newegg was just getting started.

Picked up my launch day PS4 on the day I moved to a new house (that's dedication). After the chaos died down, I hooked it up only to discover I was missing my copy of Black Flag! After searching high and low, I called GameStop to ask them to check security footage, to see if the clerk (who I know as a dumbass) had put it in. Of course he hadn't! Thankfully, they still had it at the store, so I just went to pick it up.

tl;dr - A GameStop clerk forgot to put my copy of Black Flag (PS4) in the bag on launch day.

Once thought I was buying ZOE: 2nd Runner from Gamestop, got home and ZOE 1 was in there.

I wasn't that mad, I didn't have ZOE at the time and eventually found 2nd runner.

Cheers man

I'm always on the opposite end. Always check your EB/Gamestop games, I've learned.

I bought Fable Lost Chapters, a game I was mildly interested to play again, just to see the bonus content. Being mildly hyped, I didn't open it until a month or two later, when I realized it was just the original Fable in the Lost Chapters box. I was pretty bummed out about that, what a waste of money.

Lol since some of you guys are talking about McDonald's listen to this one. My Dad and I are going through the drive thru one day and we order two McDoubles, a large Coke, and a large Dr. Pepper. Get up to the window and pay, receive our drinks. Eventually the woman brings us a large bag and we resume driving. As we pull out of the driveway my brain finally processes the fact that, despite ordering two dollar menu items, we have a large bag sitting between us.

I open the bag up and the bag contained not only our two McDoubles, but also a McChicken, a large order of fries, a medium order of fries, a Big Mac, and a Double Filet O' Fish.

How the fuck.

Once thought I was buying ZOE: 2nd Runner from Gamestop, got home and ZOE 1 was in there.

I wasn't that mad, I didn't have ZOE at the time and eventually found 2nd runner.

Hopefully this wasn't in the period where Gamestop was charging $40+ for a used copy of ZOE2.

I've read former employees on GAF claim that some GameStops reapply the shrinkwrap and sell them as new.

They do. When I buy a new game from them it's usually in this low grade cellophane wrap. I don't care too much as I always open all games at the counter and check the disc. If it's scratched or smudged I hold it up with a "wtf?" expression and the associate will sheepishly get me another one.

I know when I've played Remake on Wii. Everything is in 16:9 except for the game which has black bars on the sides. I don't think you really can play it in 16:9 because of the pre-rendered backgrounds.

I bought Assassin's Creed: Revelations and Arkham City was in the case. When I took it back the lady had asked me if I played it at least lol.

I once bought iirc killzone 1 for ps2 used from gamestop. When I got home I opened the box and it was the Platinum disc in a normal case. I am a bit picky when it comes to platinum/players choice/etc versions. I don't like them to be on my shelf.

So I was a little pissed.

The day Timesplitters 2 came out, I went to buy the first to see if I liked it for €15 and the dude put the Timesplitters 2 disc in it, didn't even realise till I got home and booted it up. It turned out to be one of my favourite games ever.
