GameStop: PS4 is clearly focused on developers & gamers.

Comes from this bit of genius:

Pretty awesome.

I'm pretty sure at least Diablo 3 PS4 will be there. Blizzard mentioned it at the PS4 Meeting.
They're showing it off on the PS3 at PAX East. It might have something to do with the Sony hardware team not wanting people to use the controller. Apparently there's some small detail they want to keep under wraps.

Ben Gilbert said:
So, how final is the only piece of hardware Sony was willing to trot out? "It's near final. It's just gonna be small tweaks being done," Sony Worldwide Studios head Shuhei Yoshida told us in an interview this morning.

Sadly, he also admitted we won't be able to touch any of it anytime soon. "By E3, I think" was the best he could offer. He blamed Sony's hardware folks for not allowing access, despite him pleading with PR to give hands-on time. "I was just asking our PR team can we just let you touch this stuff. Our hardware guys don't want you to find out some detail that ..." he said, trailing off. "Some dirty secret?" we asked. "Of course," he responded with a smile.

the fuck? they still have something up their sleeve with the controller? goddamn.

IMO, they just don't want people to get their hands on it yet. Gotta keep it under wraps longer, until E3 or close to it anyways. After the big unveil, who knows, maybe they might go on some kind of PS4 tour so people can finally get their hands on the controller and see the console up close.

The enhanced rumble perhaps? Really interesting! What could it be...
IIRC Cerny briefly mentioned the rumble being improved during the event so I don't think that's it. It's probably something really small and dumb. Like the Gamecube controller's click in shoulder buttons (
yes, i fell for the hype at the time :(
).

I'm guessing stereo rumbling. The stereo bass on the Pulse headsets are quite immersive.

We tested high headsets with shakers like the one in the Pulse and unfortunately the Pulse had the worst shaker with the vibrations traveling up through the top band of the headset which was really annoying. Sturdy build and awesome design on the headset though!

The controller...breaks apart for move?

What kind of secret could they have that could be determined just by holding the controller? i dont get it
It has to be something dumb that most people wouldn't consider a big deal so it's best to just pretend Yoshida never said anything. Trust me, I've been through this before.

That happens to me too when I have the Bass Impact really high. I always keep it very low to get the feel I want. I don't even know why they allow them to go as high as they do.

^ I do remember Bethesda VP mentioning that there's more stuff about the DS4 controller to be talked about, it was in GT's post-show steam:

At 03:38:10 mark.

Could be more details on what we know already, could be new stuff, but there's definitely more to know.

oh very interesting, i had forgotten about this. sounds like he's talking about the functions of the touchpad, which Sony didn't really go into detail about yet. So we might learn about stuff it can do that we didn't expect.

honestly, there is no concrete claim of MS not permitting used game on x720. these kinds of claims are too good to be true

You are correct no company has said either way what their plans will be regarding used games. I Just find the overall essence of the comment from Gamestop (if they really said it), to be a jab at any other company considering stopping used game sales. By potentially saying they are not for the gamers if they stop used game sales. Gamestop statement is a round about way of keeping the thought, practice and business of used games alive.

I believe used games will be allowed but at a cost of between 1 and 5 dollars to unlock them.
I don't really think that would be unfair. I typically buy games that I really want at launch. I wait for the price to come down if it is a game I think will be average. If I buy a used game it will be because of scarcity/unavailability of that title. I prefer to have a sealed game even if I have to wait months. I think don't think it is a huge deal. let the developers earn some more money factor the cost of the resale into your equation when trading or selling. But If they do implement this change give us a little break on the new copies. 55 dollars. We as gamers and developers can both win.

I think rumble would be the best bet since they mentioned it at the conference and how it's improved, but that's all they said and didn't touch on it again. That would be something easily spotted if people played with the controller unless they disabled it which wouldn't be good press anyway.

I think that area of gaming stands to be improved and amaze people while not discouraging anyone else. Think of the Novint Falcon and what it did to PC gaming and rumble for those that owned it. You could feel individual surface textures in the tech demo using it and could tell the difference. The Falcon amazed me and I know it won't be seen in consoles with that much precision anytime soon, but just 10% of its features on a console controller would be a huge change. It made recoil a real factor in gaming and explosions or firing in a tank would blow me away every time...literally. :D

Jaguar Vanilla
* 1.8GHz LC Clocks (can be under-clocked for specific low-powered battery device needs - tablets, etc...).
* 2MB shared L2 cache per CUs
* 1-4 CUs can be outfitted per chip. (i.e. 4-16 logical cores)
* 5-25 watts depending on the device/product. (45 watts is achievable under proper conditions)

PS4 Jaguar with chocolate syrup.
* 2GHz is correct as of now.
* 4MB of total L2 cache (2MB L2 x 2 CUs)
* 2 CUs (8 Logical cores).
* idles around 7 watts during non-gaming operations and around 12 watts during Blu-ray movie operations. Gaming is a mixed bag...

A 25% increase in the PS4 CPU? This is the same increase that was reported on "PS4 Daily" yesterday isn't it.

The site is spurious however.

EDIT: Oops sorry wrong thread.
