GameStop sure seems to be pushing the Xbone hard...

I doubt most retailers like the Nintendo home platforms. Attach rates for the Wii were pretty poor, and they're barely making anything on each console sold. Why push something that isn't worth the effort?

Huh? Although not as big as the Xbox 360, the Wii was a monster software machine.

Estimated_attach_rate.gif

That was in 2008; and by 2013 the attach rate was in the high 8's.

Microsoft will be paying for advertising space in the store, but the hand-drawn signs and desperate selling techniques are free and a consequence of lagging sales.

I can comment last time I was in best buy...several weeks ago..there were on floor Greened out Microsoft Reps in there Xbowned out from head to toe.

Both looked sad as hell..one middle aged bald guy, his head was soo shiny he was charging his iphone from the shine on his head.

Goes to show you, they are paying for it now(after all the policies and 180s they did) having to jackup on advertisement and propaganda to get people to buy their systems.

Cant help to think that sales are a bit low in comparison to the ps4 and they are going full pedal to the floorboard doing anything and everything to sell their systems.

I think advertisement is like 5 to 1 if not more...for every 5 Xbox one ads I see im lucky to see a ps4....especially online.

As well parents buying their kids new systems aren't going to be too keen on the idea buying a system that has a "packed in box" camera. Even if they dont have to plug it in they arent going to trust their kid with it and all the perverts out there...just a bad idea. Not to mention they are forced to buy it..be different if it was optional.

I don't know about "monster" but ps2 ended its run around 12.

Though do we know if quarterly reports include DD "shipments" for modern consoles as that might be increasingly impacting retail attach?

Funny how they didn't do that with the Wii U...

In the store I took those pictures from, Xbone and 360 games and accessories dominated the front and along most of the right wall. PS4 was in the right rear corner and, to be honest, I didn't even see the WiiU. I think it was in the back left.

I know from experience that companies often pay for prime retail space. I have no doubt after visiting a number of GameStop all with the same setup that MS is paying to have their products front and center. That's just the way it is. The table was surprising, but if I were to guess that's more of GameStop's doing to move Xbones. We also don't know how much they make off of Xbones or if they get any sales incentives from MS. If they are, all of this makes perfect sense.

Interesting story at best buy tonight.

I was in there looking for the PS4 camera. I told the employee I was surprised they sell so fast. He said "they don't sell quickly, we just don't get any in. Same goes for the PS4. Sony has just stopped selling them and no one knows when they'll ever come in again. Sony has pretty much shut down production. Now microsoft is pumping out system and they're selling like crazy"

Now keep in mind I live outside Philly and a quick store locator shows literally every best buy in the area has Xbox Ones in stock.

So I told him Sony launched in more areas to which he replied "MS launched in Europe as well". So I had to correct him on just how many more areas Sony launched in. I also reminded him Sony outsold the Xbox in November to which he replied "no it didn't"

Just weird meeting that big of a fanboy in real life.

Don't know why they even want to help MS when it's clear that MS was plotting to cut their business model off at the knees and take control for themselves. If I were Gamespot I'd be looking for any excuse to push the PS4 instead.

I thought it was rumored that Gamestop was going to be the only licensed vendor that you could buy and sell used games under Microsoft's original policies. Maybe I was mistaken.

It would have been so much worse if they didnt do the 180s. They sales they got were from the hardcore that knew the change was made.

Yeah, I thought it was going to kill lending/giving/selling to friends and ebay.

Sounds like the typical fanboy types who make up stories and try to sell them as realities.

Maybe they are sick of explaining the same shit over and over again.
As someone who worked for gamestop this plays part.

When PS3 ditched the launch models and stopped backwards compatibility it was like i was living in my own personal goddamn hell because people would always return games and/or call in complaining that their PS3 wouldn't play PS2 games. I could just imagine the frustration from xbox one from uninformed consumers. That isn't to say they aren't trying to off-load stock.

I was going to actually post a thread about this, but every store I've been too has had a ridiculous amount of Bones in stock. I've seen one ps4 in stock at a walmart. Not sure this really means anything, could just mean sony isn't making them as fast as Microsoft... that being said there was a display setup at the front of my best buy that went untouched, and the cage by the Xbone section was full and untouched as well for the last few weeks.

At my target they were selling them for 350 due to scalpers returning them. I almost grabbed one actually.

Gamestop does keep things in the bathroom. I worked there for a year. Mostly used things like stacks of bulk games and Rock Band. Still funny

Uh what? Is this some joke that I didn't get?

No, it is the truth, I heard the same thing from my brother in law's cousin's roommate, who knows someone working for a Sony employees friend. He said demand is too high and they just gave up and halted production.

He said there will be an official statement soon where they will annouce draconian DRM measures and a price increase to get demand down to reasonable levels.

Seems like the smart thing to do if you cannot produce enough units.

Talked to a guy who's an Xbox guy today, and he mentioned how the PS4 being out of stock makes it more desirable even though he has zero reason to want a PS4.

People are weird.

I would so buy one at that price. Holy moly.

I have four friends who bought the Xbox One even though they never liked Microsoft, have no Xbox Live Account, and fucking hate Xbox, just because they couldn't find a PS4 in stock lol. They said fuck Sony if they're not going to supply any stock they'll buy it later when it's not hard to find.

I laughed so hard.

EDIT: Actually, one of these friends returned the Xbox One and bought a PS4 after I sent him a link the next day to buy one at BestBuy.com before they sold out (it sold out after like 3 hours).

Haha I want proof of this. Why would the store eat a $150 loss (if the Xbox cost Microsoft about $475 to make, I assume stores bought them for more than $350) just because they want to move stock, on a product that is selling well. Seriously, from the sales figures we know, they sold 2 million WITHOUT the help of the Holiday Seasons, their is no way a store would eat a big loss, especially not a Target where anyone who bought one before at $499 would come back for a $150 refund, just to move stock on a product they could just stop ordering stock until they clear their current supply.

Seriously, a claim this big, I want proof haha.

All this gives me fond memories of walking around Fries and random Wal-Marts in early 07 and seeing fat stacks of PS3s everywhere. The more things change, the more they stay the same.

Second hand system is 100% profit go to retail. None of this money going to MS.

MS said they sold 2 million but I'd like to see a breakdown of how exactly they managed that. They either sold a crapload of consoles the first week of December or they're having much better sales in the other 12 countries than we thought

As an ex-Target employee, I can tell you Target does not sell used systems. They can't even sell a returned video game console that accepts any type of media because of problems such as porn on 3DSs, Ipods, PSPs, etc. If you return an open system that has obviously been tampered with to a Target, it is sent to a company for refurbishing and no longer target's problem.

I hate to say it, but the previous poster's claims are quite unlikely and more probably sensationalist bull.

They aren't second hand though.

Let's go really simple with this.

Target buys the system from Microsoft to sell, probably paid $450 (they weren't even willing to sell it for $450 after the 10% apology, since they wouldn't profit from even selling it for that)
Target now has -$450
Person A sold the system to Target, gave them $500.
Target has now has $50
Person A returns the system to Target, Target returns their $500.
Target now has -$450 again, they need to sell the system again for $500.

Why would target decide to say "fuck it! sell it for a loss!" when the system is selling well enough to be the second biggest launch in gaming history.

Seriously, some of you guys are being so pessimistic. The only facts we now are:

Xbox One has one of the biggest launches in industry history.
Xbox One's are in stock.
Xbox One has sold 2 million+.

We don't know stock numbers, we don't know current/live sales data, we don't know anything. It's really silly to look at this like "It's been in stock at Amazon for a day! It bombed! It dropped down from the Most Wish Item on Amazon to #2! No demand! It's selling at around retail on Ebay! No Demand! It's in supply at _____ consistently! No sales!" or anything to those extents. It's just being very pessimistic.

Whatever the claims, but the fact is the second hand system price will all go to the retail.

That may be true, but you directly related his post about wanting proof of this guys claim that brand new unused systems were selling for $350 at a company that does NOT sell used.

I'm not saying you're wrong, I'm just saying your post has nothing to do with his post because it's irrelevant. Correct, but irrelevant.

Where I live, EBgames seems to be pushing Xbone much more than Ps4 with advertisements but can't pick PS4 up till next month while Xbone seems to be available for now. Maybe it's just not selling as well or maybe MS just have a massive load of money to spend. Some of the pics look a little sad though. Seems a little too desperate.

I know but it is about second hand profit going to the retail, nothing else. I can't explain his claim but I'm just said how the second hand work.

I stopped at the gamestop by my house a couple days ago and was really surprised they had a giant xbox one display with dozens of boxes and a HUGE HDTV screen right in the middle when you walk in the store. They didn't really have a PS4 display except for one of the regular kisok things next to the counter.

We know PS4 stock < demand and Xbox One stock > demand.

Most people I know are getting it for PC or X360 :S

My uncle was planning on getting a One simply for TitanFall but as soon as I told him its coming out on the 360 he bought a PS4 and is gonna buy TF on his 360. Doesn't care for graphics/horsepower he just wants to play the game. MSoft did a good job securing Titanfall but it shoulda been a One exclusive if they really wanted to push it.
