Gamestop Weekly Ad: MS "Get the Facts" aka Kinect Doesn't Have To Be Plugged In!

Can't decide if I think this is a "Oh oh NSA topic" response, or a "People just don't realize we reversed ourselves" response.

The bolded.

I work retail part time and there is still a $hitton of fud out there in the market. The average consumer is so confused by all the MS news they have heard, been told and have read that they are clueless on what the truth is.

The biggest winner here is the Wii-U. (you heard it here first, wathc holiday sales)

Yeah, if this ad doesn't convince you that there will be a kinectless sku by Q2 of 2014 you're nuts.

Guess I'm nuts then.

Can't seem them taking such a big advantage away from a device they spent a lot of time on so soon. As I said before, I predict a system price drop with kinect before a kinectless SKU.

Still better than Walmart's attempt:

The 21st century NES R.O.B or Zapper gun!

Comparing the console that fixed the 1983 crash to the blunder of the century, good job.

People had a different mentality when it comes to this stuff, we've already had a Kinect in the last gen, back then the R.O.B and Zapper was something new.

So the logic can't be similar the reason why Sony implemented dual analog sticks in all their controllers for the PS2 (better game support for a feature due to 100% of the console userbase having it)?

the thing with kinect is that they've done an awful job of justifying it being a forced purchase with the xbox one. People are going to hate it because it's presumably the reason for the $100 difference in price and weaker console specs than the ps4. The first kinect was also a shitty peripheral that sold pretty well on lies and dancing games that worked sometimes.

Now it doesn't even need to be hooked up, so of course people want the option to not buy it as well.

seems like a mixed message and a bit silly to advertise that you dont need kinect to play xbox one...people would just question "why is it coming with the console if we dont need it" and just wont buy one

I guess this is going to be a permanent campaign, seeing as how the facts change every few weeks.

They even bought GetTheFacts.com

Convenient to have all the 180s in one place I guess...

Wow

So about half of their Campaign reads like Damage Control?

How in the hell?

I would just explain nothing and market it as the Next Xbox.

I guess the negative word of mouth penetrated deep enough into the general public eh?

That is precisely what it conveys. They are advertising it as a negative feature that you are still being forced to pay extra for. Hilarious.

and now it seems you can play kinect sports with a controller while sitting on the couch (presumably eating doritos).

It probably a darn fine system, but this shit writes itself.

The issue I take with the "Get The Facts" campaign, is that they try to make it sound like the Xbone has always been like this, when that is simply not true...

Kinect has done so too for certain game genres that wouldn't really fit with a traditional controller.

keep fighting the good fight.

But on a serious note, I wouldn't be able to catch a big red ball so well without kinect. Revolutionary stuff right there.

It was a simple comparison about things that came with consoles.

Kinect 2 is a new device also. Just because it has a predecessor doesn't automatically make it not new. That would be like saying a controller for a new console can't interest people since "they've already had a similar one last gen".

Please go ahead and tell me what lies the Kinect 1 was sold on? And what Dancing Games did you play? Because I played a lot of Dance Central by myself and with my family, and non of us have any complaints. Dance Central 1 and Dance Central 2 worked really well.

People will be sold on Kinect after they see its basically required for Skype and Upload Studios, and when good selling Kinect games like Dance Central and Kinect Sports release. Not to mention the general use for games, and voice commands. People will learn to like Kinect 2.

I suppose they'll need another "get the facts" ad to explain the first ad...
Come on guys, it's like you're actively trying not to understand what they're saying. Being able to turn the kinect off doesn't mean it's useless, it means you won't need to have it active when you're not using it. The same could be said for your controller, you can turn it off when you're watching a movie without any issue.
It's a feature everybody was asking for when the kinect was said to be always on, especially from those fearing to be spied on. And it doesn't have much negative impact for developers, they can still count on all customers having a kinect at home, even if it is not plugged in (they'll just need to check if the kinect is connected at startup, and add a "please connect kinect" message if not).

MS - when are we going to see a mass apology and the firing of all the execs that ruined the Xbox brand? Or how about a pack-in game for the US? This advertisement is borderline lunacy and reeks of desperation. Damn - to think a huge conglomerate with so many bright people working there can fuck up so badly.

Not fighting any "fight". Simply making a point.

Certain genres like motion mini game compilations, dance, & fitness would not be as fun with a traditional controller.

Don't see why it's so hard for some of you guys to have a simple discussion without being snarky.

Microsoft seems desperate to me trying to sell the Xbox One justifying that you can play used games and have Kinect plugged on and off... WTF !

It will be quite interesting to see just how many Xbone functions will require that Kinnect be plugged in. I can foresee major meltdowns will take place.

I'm not sure if you're being serious. We'll see how that plan goes when the 2 consoles launch next month.

It's kind of hilarious they're constantly having to run these information drives to tell people they've decided not to go ahead with their shitty policies on so many fronts after all... and also that they're telling people that they don't need a Kinect only to give them no choice about whether or not they buy one if they want that new Xbox.

Clusterfuck.

They planned the system WITH Kinect (10% of GPU power, dedicated audio chip, etc), I don't think we gonna see a kinectless SKU.

wii fit seemed to work fine...

but just indulge me for a second and think that not every gamer, especially the hardcore gamer and the dudebro crowd, care about motion mini games, dance, fitness games. As in the people who put the xbox brand on the map.

What does it say about a company when it completely disregards those people opinions by launching an inferior product at a higher cost and then come and say "see the thing we're shoving down your throat? You don't need to use it. Look at how we care about you.".

Despite what the kinect might do in the future... the current main audience of the xbox brand does not care and worse, does not want the product.

Microsoft's answer? "It's ok you don't have to use it after you buy it".

Ridiculous. Please do find a defense for this action.

What the heck are ya gonna do if you want a Xbox One but you don't want Kinect watching you all the time, what are'ya gonna do?

Just unplug it dumdum, why didn't you think of that?

Does every single Microsoft thread really have to turn into a Microsoft-hate-fest?

It's good to see this being advertised. You have no idea how many people I run into who constantly have the wrong information. I saw a contest the other day on how to "win a wireless Wii!". It was a Wii U.

Why don't you stop with your half measure bullshit and just sell the console without a Kinect if you're that worried people don't want to use it. I swear, the moment Microsoft does another 180 because of Kinect I'm going to die of laughter.

Unless the controller is a significant upgrade like the DS4.

The Kinect 2 is an upgrade compared to the original Kinect, but it's nothing special and only serves as a $100 paperweight to most of us here.
