Saw Stanley Parable in the youtube comments and ITT, which is a big one, for sure.
I think God of War 1's demo was a bigger deal and a better sell than GoW3's. The demo was so amazing, off the jampack disc. I turned it off, left the house and immediately went back out to buy it from the Target I had just gotten the demo from. It sold the franchise... GoW3 sold something that already sold itself. imo, screens of GoW1 looked kind of dumb, but playing it for barely a half hour blew my fucking mind. Today is GoW3 day, so maybe that's part of the motivation for choosing it.
They should have also mentioned that the Final Fantasy VIII demo had a music track in it that later went unused in the final release, because it turned out to be strikingly similar to the theme from the movie "The Rock" - it was another thing that made that demo a point of interest at the time. It's one of the first things I remember talking about on video game message boards in '99. Honestly, the FFVII demo was a bigger deal, either way. It didn't even need a demo to go with it's hype, but it sold Tobal No 1 the way MGS2 sold ZOE.
I also think talk about the bait and switch for western coverage of MGS2 should be in this video as a big reason why that demo is so important... otherwise, it could just as easily be the demo for MGS1 in that spot.
