Used to watch these Pachter shows, but at this point....just cant bother anymore.
Did he say anything interesting ?
I just have so much overflowing love for Pachter, so here is my transcript.
* The Dorito Pope is at DICE in Las Vegas with everyone's favorite pseudo-analyst Michael Pachter
* Countdown to meeting
* Keighley: What is anticipated, Pachter? How likely is PS4?
* Pachter: 100%, I'm just makin that up
* Keighley: Makes sense bro. PS Meetings are only held to announce new platforms.
* Keighley: What are we going to see? Box? Games?
* Pachter: Form factor, some of the specs (going to be close to leaks last week)
* Pachter: Don't think specs are finalized for MS. Still tweaking things. I'm just makin that up. Waiting to see what Sony does.
* Pachter: Going to get a lot of 1st-party game announcements from Sony as well, I talked to head of some 1st-party studio, said "He's definitely going to be there, can't wait to see me!" After the PS conference he's going back to Tokyo and back to New York
* Pachter: "He wouldn't make two round-the-world trips just to come in and talk about the future of PlayStation...he's there to talk about the lineup"
* Pachter: Lineup is going to be robust, gamers are going to be excited.
* Pachter: Probably two or three brand new titles, 1st-party exclusives
* Pachter: Probably Ubisoft will be there, probably EA
* Keighley: Dude, these POS are always there
* Pachter: You never really know, but everyone is probably excited about next gen, Ubisoft and EA are excited in conference calls
* Pachter: Highly unlikely you'll hear anything about MS until June
* Keighley: So Kaz was just bluffing when he was all "LOL we'll let MS go first?"
* Pachter: Yeah bro. Complete BS. Sony sent their Sony ninjas to get secret intel about MS so they know their shit.
* Pachter: MS's box is going to differ in media functionality, Sony more focused on advanced software
* Pachter: Blocking used games, all that shit, anti-gamer to do that, does not benefit console manufacturer to block used games, benefiting publisher? That's an open question. No publisher isn't going to have the balls to sell a software license, no console manufacturer would alienate their consumer base
* Pachter: ANTI USED GAMES ARE A PILE OF SHIT BRO
* Pachter: Xbox always on? Both will have the ability... "why not?" IF you want that, yes. But MANDATORY? A CROCK OF SHIT. MS / Sony will never alienate their consumers like that.
* Pachter: Next cycle is going to look like this cycle, but games are going to look better, 240 FRAMES PER SECOND GUYZ AMIRITE LOLZ
* Keighley: Are games going to look THAT much better bro?
* Pachter: They'll look like how high end PC games looked 2 years ago
* Pachter: Not as good as high end PC games today
* Keighley: REALLY BRO?
* Pachter: YEAH. Battlefield 4 is going to look like Crysis 2, going to look better on PC. Components you have to put in to emulate top-of-the-line PCs, you can't put that in current boxes, too expensive
* Keighley: So no incredible graphics bro?
* Pachter: Yo, hardcore gamers are going to gravitate towards Steambox, all about that customization shit, publishers are going to support PC, PC is much more of a viable platform now
* Keighley: So it will be tough for Sony?
* Pachter: Yes. But the hardcore gaming audience is large enough. "NeoGAF is a good proxy for the size of the hardcore gaming population. 90,000 people. They have a meaningful percentage between 5 and 20 percent."
GUYZ PACHTER ACTUALLY LOVES US.
* Keighley: BUT WILL THE STEAMBOX SHOW 240 FRAMES PER SECOND GAMING!?!?
* Pachter: Yo bitch, I've spoken to SIX developers now. It's totally possible. I'm six for six. I'm all "Can the box run 240 FPS?" And they're all "Well...yeah...but why the fuck would we want to do that?"
* Pachter: Out of all the developers I spoke to, all of them said "We'll all run everything for sure at 60 frames per second, 1080p on the next PlayStation."
* Pachter: I think all games next gen will be 60 frames per second...it's just not that hard to do
* Keighley: Yo, I heard Carmack say that people are still going to do 30.
* Pachter: With more power in the box you don't really need to make a 30 FPS tradeoff. Besides, most of these games are going to be such big-budget that the extra $300 grand won't make much of a diff
* Keighley: THEY'LL BE HYPER REALISTIC, AMIRITE?
* Pachter: Riiighhht.
* Keighley: What does that mean, Pachy boy?
* Pachter: NOT MY WORD BITCH, I DON'T KNOW.
* Keighley: ARE THERE GOING TO BE ANY 240 FPS DEMOS BRO!??
* Pachter: Maybe Pong. And the duck demo.
<Obligatory Giant Enemy Crab joke>
* Keighley: Yo, how could they surprise us?
* Pachter: I'm intrigued by being in New York, not gaming center in the world, it's a media plane, we might see something with Sony Music, with multimedia, television, movies, have a feeling they're going to beef up the whole Sony store to help us buy more multimedia, we'll get some media guy on stage.
* Keighley: Kaz is head of ALL OF SONY, he could bring everyone together, PS4 is SO important, TV sales and such.
* Pachter: Feel bad for Sony corporate, 25 years ago, Sony brand meant something to ALL consumers, Sony VCR, TV, PEOPLE DON'T GIVE A SHIT now, Samsung is the brand of the future. Sony isn't going to pull that back, but they'll try.
* Pachter: And hey, I'm not going to PS Meeting. Ain't nobody got time for that. I'm goin SKIING WITH MY FAMILY.
* Keighley: So you'll watch on your phone, live on Gametrailers? Hope things will look 240 FPS to you LOLOLOL
* Keighley: We'll show this shit LIVE on Feb 20, tune back.
