Miss old GT from like 2007, was the first forum I used.
So many memories. :D

man i was so active on their forum back then. And i'm sure part of the reason was because of the "Forum Topics" section on the main page. It was just so quick to access a topic from there and join the conversation.

After their redesign i stopped visiting the forum and ultimately stopped visiting their page on a daily basis when the only content worth watching was EpicBattleCry.. Only now after the got rid of Shane and got some good personality together did i get back to enjoying them.. now they have the best crew of all gaming sites in my opinion. But losing Elyse was a huge hit and i hope the office move doesn't lead to more people leaving.

Doesn't work on my ipad while the old site did. I hope it will down the road - you can't do a redesign of a site in 2015/16 and not support those devices.

I don't understand how a website called Gametrailers is always having issues with shitty video players and crappy video quality. Man, just link to YouTube at this point.
Their players have been shit since day 1. There was no Youtube back when Gametrailers started ;)

They are YouTubers as far as I'm concerned; I don't have to use an abysmal player to get some GT goodness that way

I'm just surprised that people these days still make sites that are fixed width and not responsive.

It seems to me that this new site was cobbled together from hacked up pieces of the older site.

Went to their website on my mobile device...left disappointed as there is yet to be a mobile-friendly version of their website! Cmon people it's 2015! Mobile websites are mandatory!

Them getting a new office and a new website is reassuring in that at least it suggests they aren't getting shut down any time soon.

I just watch their stuff on YouTube these days. They've got some great personalities, and some great shows, but sort of feels like they don't get the audience they deserve.

I guess they are to an extent squeezed out by less professional (but not necessarily low quality) outfits dedicated entirely to YouTube, without the production standards that GT have, and at the other end big outlets traditionally focussed on written stuff, leaning harder into video.

Not sure what the future holds for them, but I wish them all the best.

I agree. I always felt they should have a greater audience - however it looks like they have been down sized. The new office is a downgrade, and could be a sign that Defiant are slowly phasing them out - contractually they might not be able to shut them down but moving them to the back offices, could be a bad sign. I have experience with corporate so I may just be cynical - old age too.

Plus Ellyse leaving - could also be a sign. Better to make a calculated step than jump - or be pushed.

Anyway I wish them the best and hope the future is bright for them.

Are they ever going to update their iOS app?

Also, I cant go fullscreen on this new player or change resolution (using Chrome)

Man. I thought that website was gone already :O Looks like a typical WP site. Header shit up top, left side "content" area, right side sidebar, featured content lists below everything. I feel like this is just like the other one thousand gaming templates for WP, Joomla, etc.

Also, WTF at the forums? I used to post there like 2005-ish.

This site to me felt like they had a big presence in the gaming scene back int he day, with Bonus Rounds being posted weekly on Gaf and the show on Spike tying into the website with its reveals. BR use to get people all worked up with their holiday episodes and whos relevant and whos not lol. While I love the current cast, it definitely feels like they've faded away.

I don't even see Bonus Round on the panel anymore, looks like it was dumped. Sad to see but I can see them closing down the website in the next 12 months at this rate unless they find a way to attract a bunch of new viewers. Is Geoff still affiliated with GT?

Went to "Index" from the last Final Bosman video to see if maybe that's a way to have all FB videos in one place, where I can easily find one that I missed and watch it. What I found was that:

a) nope, it's just some general "index", all sorts of videos there
b) there's some random javascript leak on the top of that page

Seems like it hasn't been tested properly before launch...
just like most of today's games

Edit: and the player can't even maximize itself... there's a button for it but it doesn't work... what a mess

They redid the website, but are still using a Flash-based video player? I'd understand if it was a compatibility issue for old videos (FLVs?), but new videos shouldn't be stuck with it too.

Even old videos shouldn't be a problem They had more than enough time to just convert them.

The video player is still complete garbage. You would think that would be their number 1 priority. Gametrailers on youtube works so much better but they probably don't make as much ad revenue per view with youtube.

EDIT: Looks like they are using Break.com's player....so they actually have a decent player now

Is it decent? I can't go full screen and even in 720 there is an ungodly amount of compression artifacts, and it has flat out crashed multiple times already.

I know years ago GT had the absolutely worst video player. These days there is pretty much no excuse for them to run in Flash.

EDIT: And look at that: they're still using Flash. Hard pass.

No (it was made by viacom and they lost it when the buyout occurred)

They just switched over to the new site and said that they would be fixing the kinks out over the next few weeks

GT forums died when they killed factions and ranks.

I used to be part of forums my self a few years back but reading some of posts now in the recent threads via the archived version, it think the forums are kinda better off dying.

Also there are gems like these
The thing with image board sites is that they stayed true to the fundamentals of the internet user (say whatever you want, how you want, anytime you want), the internet in general was a place for outcasts like most of us who hated the way the real world has become with politically incorrectness bullshit, since 08 the "normies" started to get exposed to the internet with sites like myspace, facebook and youtube, and now with places like tumblr and reddit and 4chan have been nothing but a fucking nightmare.

The worst of it all is that not only do the millennials praise censorship, they demand it.

The OP jumped the gun a bit, yes the new site is up but as Bloodworth said in the GT thread its far from finished and no one was working on it over the long weekend which is why there are no forums and video problems and what not.

player is still garbage...

It's so they can embed their own ads, thus making them more money. That's the only reason.

Whether that's worth pushing people away from your actual website is the question. They seem to think it is.

This has to be it, so they don't have to give youtube their cut and they can make their own deals.

Shame about the forums. I was there a lot back in 07ish. I was actually a mod there briefly, but had to stop visiting the site for a while while I did some med-board stuff. When I came back and was able to go back, the site was all different and I wasn't able to log on without changing my username (for some damn reason) and having to reset my password every.single.time (even though I'd change my password in the CPanel after I'd get back in).
I would just lurk for a while so I can see if things had changed since it'd been months since I logged back in, and eventually it just wouldn't log in no matter what.

GT was nice back in 2005-2008 when gaming wasn't as huge as it is on YouTube now. It pretty much lost its chance to really run with the big boys by not adapting to the times with YouTube around that time.

I really liked the early days of Invisible Walls, Angry Video Game Nerd, Screwattack collaboration and the top 10's. Their reviews and coverage spoke to me better back then as well.

Nowadays, I'm upset to admit that I'm no longer a part of their demographic anymore, and that's okay.

Best wishes.

GT forums was fun as hell back in the day.
It was a poorly modded hell hole, but that is what made it so fun, you had trolls and troll threads that had that sense of randomness to it.

Also, factions, chill places with like minded guys could just get together and talk, remember posting on those till the sun came up.

Shame what happened to the site, gave me a lot of good friends and memories.

Was there till they removed factions.

Yeah that vid player is confirmed trash. Cant full screen it, cant play anything without disabling both Ghostery and Adblockers. What a shit show.
