gamevideos.com (wtf is this poppycock!)

The fun thing about these sites (and this is not a gamevideos exclusive), is that the advertisement always loads flawlessly...

please dump the third column and make the video window 150% bigger.

Not that we expect anybody to know this, 'cause it's not advertised, but lately the flash-encoding streaming videos on the site are usually compressed out at 640x360(480). So, even though the player on the page is small, if you click that arrow on the bottom right corner of the player, you'll get 640x360(480) stretched fullscreen to fit your desktop.

like mark said, the site's in beta, and it won't come out of beta until it's in much better shape.

glad you like the content...

The ad is always skipped on Gametrailer.com for me. I <3 Adblock :b

Edit: Please don't get rid of the third column. It makes downloading the videos so simple.

...seriously, (I work there, btw) apologies for those who have any tech problems. We have top men working on it round the clock. Top men. :) It won't go out of beta until it's better.

The long filename thing is likely a problem you have with Windows and not the website. Filenames cannot be larger than 256 characters, long folder pathnames included.

Yeah. I just realized that I downloaded those videos on my desktop. So actual path would be bigger than 256. Use short names please.

Too small screen? Click the arrow at the bottom of the viewer and it will switch to full screen. Which is larger.
Oh, I didn't know that. That little arrow seems more like a "click here and you'll go back to the homepage of gamevideo's" kinda link. :)

Still, it's pretty stupid for a site completely devoted to video's to only have the video's themselves taking up 1/10th of the screen.

Streaming/Download connection breaks for me a lot, especially when I'm trying to DL things over dial-up, but not exclusively then.

Thank goodness I can take an URL catcher program, grab some of those FLV filenames when there's no download link, and stick it in GetRight. And press the "Reconnect" button a few dozen times along the way...

streaming never works, pages are slow to load as 1UP's and downloads always finish early leaving me with a corrupted file.

I had a lot of problems with gamevideos.com before. The starting image of every video when streaming (I think it's the gamevideos logo) would stay on top of the video even when I played it. It was weird, because along the edges of the overlaying image I could see the video moving, but I couldn't get rid of the image on top of it. I tried everything to fix this but to no avail.

And I don't know why, but some weeks ago it suddenly worked fine. I don't generally care for streaming though, because there's often issues with buffering and crap like that. Also, I guess those issues are more prominent for me in this particular case, not living in the US.

Anyway, it's an OK site, I don't see it offering anything special for me that would make me choose gamevideos before gametrailers though. Maybe the youtube-like community aspect is fun for some people. I basically go to the site if it's linked to at GAF for particular videos. Download speeds are decent, but recently the downloads haven't been working, as mentioned before in this thread. Nice to see it being fixed though.

Wow, really? I couldn't disagree more, that site is awesome and my favoritest!

No offense, but gamevideos has been around for a year now - these problems should've been fixed a very long time ago.

I don't like how websites hide behind the "beta" tag excuse either.

I'll have you know that I noticed immediately that you had upped the resolution, because my PC is a POS and the streaming vids wouldn't run smoothly anymore. :P

Anyway, back when I could actually use gamevideos.com I didn't really have any issues.

It's an ok site.
Just started watching the Nintendo keynote a few minutes ago... what's with the jumpy editing?
It keeps cutting mid-sentence, and avoids showing certain slides and games. Censored?

:-/

The site gets way too much hate, so I'm reluctant to pile on, but ever since the new player and site revision, I get alot of what I guess I'd describe as disconnects during streaming.

I usually pause when the video starts playing to allow a little extra buffering and prevent the hiccups, so that might be my problem, but often at around 75% of completion, the video will just stop as if it's reached it's end, and there doesn't seem to be any way to resume without reloading the whole video.

Again, not trying to bang on the gamevideo guys' heads about it, just thought I'd throw that in for whatever it's worth instead of the less productive "this site sucks" commentary....

The problem was right under your nose and you didn't even see it.

You've got all these top men, but no bottom men.

edit: Since you guys are reading, the front page for this site sucks. There needs to be more video links, suggestions should be viewable outside the player, and there just isn't enough content visible at one time.

Now make it snappy.

It works for me, but what annoys me is that they try to stream 640x360 flv files, leave such big files in mov or wmv to downloading.

Poor quality vids and slow. Gamevideos.com is a piece of shit. I won't mention it again b/c I don't care to advertise that site. Gametrailers.com needs some competition b/c when they become a pay service (my guesstimate), we'll lose a really good site. PEACE.

I do hope that 1up integrates Gamevideos into its own site at some point. Gametrailers is fantastic since it allows people to blog as well as upload videos, check out other peoples videos via their profile, and comment on them. GV doesn't do this.

Don't give them ideas :(

Seriously though, gametrailers is better then most gaming pay sites, I'm routinely impressed with what they accomplish while still managing to remain free.

Gamevideos on the other hand... is horrible, streaming never works for me, the website is too cluttered and bunched up, its difficult to intuitively navigate the site and finally the downloads only work 50% of the time for me.

yeah, gamevideos.com sucks.

i never bother following a link to that site and just wait for the eventual mirrors on youtube or equivalent video on gametrailers

In some ways, I think your site is superior to both Gametrailers and Gamevideos:

1. Very few ads

2. Not being forced to have windows pop up for every video you want to download

3. Bittorrent links and several different direct download alternatives

I have no troubles with gamevideos, and I'm on shitty slow Aussie broadband. :( IGN's the real hell hole for me, takes like 10 minutes to stream a minute of footage.

the worst part is trying to watch a longer video on gamevideos. they freeze (ca) halfway through all the time! D:<

thats why gametrailers is the only real good thing

I guess now is as close of an opportunity as I'm going to get to ask this question and have it be on topic:

what codec do I need to make the gametrailers videos not have their colors all ridiculously messed up. Their videos all look like they went through some sort of 80s colored puke.
