Gaming laptops Comparable to a PS5

Do you think there are any gaming laptops comparable to a PS5 right now? Or would the best bet be to wait for the ampere laptops.

Not sure what you mean. In terms of power? There are gaming laptops with more power already. Nobody said they were cheap, but they exist.

No. There won't be for a while.

The Laptop RTX2080 is barely as powerful as a desktop 2070.
You'll have to wait more than just one generation for that.

Nothing will get you the I/O for a while, and PS5 has specialized hardware that makes it's "power" hard to measure against typical CPU/GPU comparisons.

I'd wait. Laptop parts are basically underclocked desktop parts that throttle often (even taking into account underclocking.)

I mean...there's laptops with stuff like RTX2080's in them (though not sure how they compare to their desktop counterparts) which should be able to handle next gen games.

But you'll probably be looking at something rather bulky with bad battery life, a giant power brick and for like 4X the price of a Ps5.

2080 would barely cut it against ps5 on ultra settings. Not to mention any SSD optimization that may happen now that Dev's will take it for granted.

Could turn your big investment below minimum requirements in a jiffy.

Best wait and let dust settle before making any decisions.

Wait for late 2021 at the least. We'll know so much more by then and PC component manufacturers will be up in sync by then as well (or at least starting to.)

Do you want to set your lap on fire?

The 200w TDP versions of the 2080 Super mobile GPU should match it. That's going to be rather expensive though. The Max-Q variants will be quite a bit slower.

I'm in the market for one myself, as my wife wants a laptop for photo/video editing, so I'm just going to whack about 500 quid on top of the budget so I can play PC and Xbox games.

After careful consideration and looking at all the best options on the market, it's pretty clear the most sensible thing to do is wait for the 3000 series Nvidea GPU's and for more manufacturers to switch from Intel to Ryzen.

I agree with this I was going to jump in on a laptop with a 2070 super. But I'll have to see how the 3000 GPUs fair up.
