Gaming Laptops -- Why are they so ugly?

My Toshiba looks awesome.

Take the new Razer Blade for example. Seems nice at first, but look at that fucking logo. Who thinks that a three headed snake looks good? Why the fuck do I want that on my laptop? And the green lights with the ugly font on the keyboard? The hell Razer??

But that's their logo. If you have a problem with their logo, that's one thing, but you don't want them to put it on their hardware?

As a whole I think that laptop looks good. There's far more gaudy computers out there.

+1 to y500/y510. I'm typing on one, and it's really low profile with turned-off keyboard lights. It was more beastly a year ago, but still holds up pretty well performance-wise too.

With that said, most gaming laptops are sure ugly as hell. There is no way I would pay for those rainbow-warrior Alienwares, for example.

Gigabyte P34G looks top.

gigabyte makes laptops now? This rock, how long have I been living under it?

Sager laptops can be relied on for gaming and they look normal, maybe a little bit too normal.

I like the styling and how powerful they can get but the build your own PC thread [or buy a laptop thread?] on here recommends against them because apparently Clevo cheaps out on everything else in the laptop :(

I actually really like the look of the blade, I'd pick one up in an instant if they were even semi-affordable.

Lenovo's stuff looks nice.

+1 to don't buy laptops targeted at "gamerz". Get a nice clean laptop with powerful parts from a normal company. There is almost nothing in those gaming laptops that can't be found in more professional looking versions.

Also, less money, because LED's are apparently super expensive or something, I can't imagine why else they charge the money they do.

Personally I love the Razer Blade 14. I really like the green and the font doesn't bother me at all. I can see about the three headed snake, but that's their logo, not much you can do about that.

Seriously, I want a laptop that I can game on and also bring to work. Problem is, it seems like every laptop that is capable of medium to heavier gaming is ugly as sin. I won't even get into the alienware type bulky ones, we all know that they're hideous. But even the new thing and light ones have ugly logos with garish typefaces and ridiculous lights.

It's so close to looking good, but come on.

The new MSI 60 Ghost does the same thing with their logo. Well, that's my rant. Anyone else agree, disagree?
What about simply covering the 3 snakes with a sticker?

Most enthusiast PC gamers tend to build their own computers anyways.

The pre-built PCs and laptops that are targeted at 'gamers' and teenagers that are incapable, or too lazy, to build their own.

I can understand the desire for a portable gaming computer over something you have built yourself though. If that is your need, stay far away from anything labeled as 'gaming.' Asus, Lenovo, etc make great laptops with dedicated graphics cards that will work just fine and be pleasing to the eye.

Here is the laptop I use. Logo is not as bright as picture makes it out to be, classic design that is not flashy.

Some classy cases if you decide to build your own.

Eh I own one and its mediocre for gaming. It really just makes me wish I had enough space in my apartment to use my desktop, tbh.

Still can game though. And from the op he cares about looks. Just knock down the res to say 1600x900 and you should be able to play pretty much everything at high-medium.

It's true, I owned one. The build quality was horrible.

Avoid "gaming" laptops, instead get in your head what type of graphics card/cpu you're looking for, then search regular laptops with them. My last gaming laptop was a standard Acer laptop with a decent config.

Think of gaming laptops as high end Nike sneakers... Regular shoes perform the exact same functions and you can get great running shoes for cheaper... you're buying a status symbol, and status symbols are LOUD in color and design because they BEG people to ask you about them.

This is what I did and it works fine. Some of my roommates have gaming laptops and they look awful, but they have separate devices for doing work on.

i have the latest Alienware 17 and i think the design is amazing. And every person (non-gamers) that sees it say the same thing

Zzzzzz.. what? Huh? Oh sorry, I fell asleep because those desktops are so boring looking.

How many 6 packs does that mini fridge hold?

You mock, but in person the Define cases are slick and quiet.

Also, you really don't want anything with more lights/flashiness. That tiny blue little light at the top? It's really that + a gigantic power button with a huge light ring surrounding it. Bitch is BRIGHT. When you put the comp into sleep mode, that fucker blinks at 1 second intervals. Impossible to sleep through. Have to throw clothes on the thing get it to leave me alone.

Of all the specifically gaming-targeted laptops I'd say the new Razer Blade actually looks best.

Luckily I have a desktop for gaming so I can buy laptops which are light and look nice :P

It's hard to find any sort of PC that looks good, in my opinion. Desktop or laptop.
Oh that's just silly. There are many e.g. Lian Li cases which look far more classy than the vast majority of consumer electronics (including consoles).

And there are amazing looking non-gaming laptops out there.

Oh, that's unfortunate to hear. Didn't that thread reccomend them once? Anyways if we're posting our laptops I use a Samsung series 7 Chronos. Not the strongest laptop around but it looks nice, does a good job playing games and is comfortable to use. Took a few falls rather well, too.

With Steam In-Home streaming, having a dedicated gaming laptop is becoming obsolete unless you go on frequent trips.

Holy shit. Samsung sure likes to copy Apple.

Well I built my own gaming rig but have to travel around for work and a capable ,cool and quiet gaming laptop is a must have for me.I like the design of the razer but it just isn't available in India.

Gamers and the l33t (remember that?) culture were, for a while, as tacky as it gets. It seems that manufacturers haven't caught on to a potential change in this regard.

Look for pictures of any LAN party back in the CS 1.6 days and you'll see how bad it got.

Can you not unplug the LED separately?

I'm quite happy that we're past the cold cathode, LED fan, UV backlit early 2000s.

Because how else do you know that it's SUPER FAST and SUPER STRONG if it doesn't have EDGY™ edges and SWEET™ robotic Transfomers-inspired design, combined with LOTS AND LOTS™ of vents so it looks like a sports car just about to fly away right from under your hands?

They all look fine to me. The last thing I want is every fucking laptop to be an aluminum rectangle. Just like I hate all consoles and phones turning into black rectangles.

The only good-looking laptop is a Macbook Air.

All others look shit. Even Macbook Pros look kinda clunky.

Yes, I own a Macbook Air.

Because I am stylin' on you.
