The Kanto Radio Tower in Pokemon G/S... :( I actually spent my childhood to try to find tactics for getting past the person standing in the way together with my friends. There better not be a way to get in there.

I remember there was a mysterious fireplace poker in Alone in the Dark.

I didn't find any use for it, but the rumor was that you could use it to burn all the books and you would get a new ending.

Pokemon RBY: Holding down and B makes catching pokemon easier. Doesn't work, but I still do it in D/P out of habit.

Oh god, Yeah I remember that XD.

Hilarious stuff. I guess the biggest one for me was when I spent about 12 hours trying to find an invisible God Sword in the original Dragon Warrior......

I was stupid

In Sonic Jams outstanding Sonic World bit, if you pressed and held ABC and Start when selecting it, the world would load up with a time limit. Rumour had it if you got all the 100 rings on the course in the time limit (I never QUITE did it!) "something" would happen.

I actually think the button combo just activated demo mode. Anyone manage to do it?

Solly did, I have a video of it. Unless you had to make it back to the entrance for it to count (honestly, someone's probably hacked the game by now and figured out there was never anything).

The 1991 EGM April Fools Joke for Simon Belmont in TMNT: The Arcade Game on NES.

HOURS spent trying to put in that code!

I caught on fast that Sheng Long was bullshit, but this one got me. It was one of those secrets that made enough sense that they didn't try to oversell.

I always thought that Illusion of Gaia seemed to be a bit unfulfilling for me, one day I had a dream that after you beat the game and the secret dungeon/boss (after getting all 50 stones), you would unlock the 'modern' world (
seen in the game's ending
) and then challenge the 7 wonders of the modern world.

Would have been a damn cool rumor.

It's been awhile and my memory might be playing tricks on me... but does anyone remember a level in Super Mario World, I think it was a castle, where there's a room at the end of the level with a seemingly endless sea of lava to your right? I tried flying over it many times but never got to the end (at the time I didn't know the trick to fly long distances). Was there anything on the other end or was it just a red herring?

Edit: Hmm, after a bit of research, it may have been this:

Get a cape and go to Forest Fortress. At the end of the level, do not go through the big red Boss doors. Instead walk a little to the left and jump up onto the little ledge. Go to the right, and there will be a platform just big enough to fly from. You will notice a pool of lava there. Use your cape to fly over it, keeping balance. Be careful of the fireballs. At the end of the lava, you will find a compartment with 10 to 15 extra life mushrooms and a Boss door to take you to the same place as the original door.

This is exactly why I loved Super Mario World so much as a kid. There were secrets everywhere. :)

Gran Turismo 3 - When you would win races/events, many times it would have a carousel of cars that would spin and then it would give you 1 of them. If you did the 100 lap ring endurance race, which you could win early on with any car with a bunch of HP - one of the cars you had a chance of winning was an F1 car. There were all sorts of ways I read that would get it - tapping a particular button, holding d-pad+ a button....but none of that crap worked. Instead a raced that dumb race 15+ times in picture-in-picture before I finally won the F1 car.

Oh, thanks a lot for reminding me about that damn door in Eggman's base. :lol I think I could even Light Speed Dash in there with Sonic, if you aimed at the top slot. You could trigger a button to open the top part of it charging his dash near one of the walls. I'm pretty sure it's still in the DX version.

For added fun, at the start of the level there (Final Egg I think), if you turn around, there's a big steel door. Walk back far enough, and it clips away, and so does its collisions. Sonic can't go back without it reappearing, but you can use Tails and go behind that area, up the curved ramp behind it. I don't recall that being used for Amy's version or anything, but I can't say for sure.

Man, I wasted hours.
Off the top of my head, there were a couple doors in Eggman's base. One in the Egg Chao Garden. The second story of Tails's house. I also recall a lot of talk about Metal Sonic being a boss or being playable. Which I think they actually did in DX. The numerous buildings in the city, certain cliffs in the jungle, exploring the ruins during the flashback.

That you could run outside of the castle in Castlevania SOTN and there was apossbilit yto get sometihng like 216% completed. I tried for a week in colleg with no luck...

I don't know what methods you tried, but this is/was completely possible and the sword brother glitch method was known almost immediately. Nowadays there are various methods to glitch through walls and such.

There are. Keep on keepin' on.

And the search continues.....

Although I don't know what to believe because the game code and hex for all the Halo games has been ripped apart a millions times by HighImpactHalo enthusiasts.

For me:

Sheng Long

Mario Wotld having a 97th level.

Double Dragon 1, when you get to the last boss he stands on a balcony and after a while he comes down to kick your ass with a gun. There also used to be another gun hanging on the wall at the top which some claimed you could get somehow.

I remember getting frustrated that I couldn't figure out how to shoot out the unique character items in Super Mario Kart that I always saw the enemies shooting out. I didn't have the instruction booklet and was sure that it was in there. I'm pretty sure their were people online claiming they did it. :lol
