or something?

edit: Sorry guys its late

What the duck is everyone smoking here. This is the prettiest game for next gen shown so far. And the art deco Roman style is striking and bold. If they can sort the bugs, this will be a great launch title.
I've always wanted a historical game that doesn't fall into mythological bullshit. GoW got tiring midway through the second.game.

Should have been in first person view, But i still hope this game do good, I just don't want Crytek stop trying to breakout from Crysis and make new IP.

Takes more than being pretty to be a great game.

Gotta give Crytek some credit. They sure as hell know how to make graphically impressive titles. I'm surprised to see MP looking this good. It makes me all the more excited to see what they have in store for us when we see more of the SP. So long as they take care of those bugs and do their best to give us a really kick ass SP with hopefully a story I can actually get into and enjoy, I'll be pretty pleased with my purchase.

Truer words have never been spoken. I've literally hated every game Crytek has ever made. I don't have a good opinion of any of them. If this game wasn't based on the subject matter that it is, I probably wouldn't even be paying attention to anything they're working on. This represents a change for them, and I like the direction and just hope it turns out good. For example, this game being first person would have instantly killed it for me. No matter how good it looked or played I wouldn't have been interested. And instead of a first person shooter, we've got a third person sword and shield combat game. Another big surprise for me is that they're actually trying to make this a bigger deal than I would've expected from a story and character perspective. I definitely didn't expect that going into E3. Plus, there's gods and otherworld creatures apparently.

and the smoke is the only thing you noticed here..?

- not the guy running THROUGH the player at the beginning..?
- not the guy on the right who get´s hit by the player, and then just stands still and moves like there is something under the water giving him pleasure instead of fighting he player..?
- the guy in the back who suddenly has a glowing red thing on his stick/weapon..?
- and again the guy in the back, he suddenly beams from the left of the screen to the right at the end of the gif..?

this game looks bad to me.. just that small gif has more bloobers than any blockbuster movie to date..

Absolutely amazing looking game graphically. I'm shocked that's actually MP footage. I'm starting to think that this may be the best looking next gen game so far. Only The Division is a challenger.

...Which makes it even more sad that the gameplay looks so boring. Imagine these graphics with a competent RPG developer. Hnnngggg.

This looks awesome, yes its buggy, but its a first playable of a game in development, relax, I can understand all the crying if this was a boxed product but its not, this shit will get ironed out, that's what 3 months of pure bug fixing is for at the end of a project.

Edit: I forgot this was going to be a launch title, good luck sorting all that out in time boys! :)

On a serious note internet traffic is probably crap at that convention which is probably the cause of most of the bugs. Dedis should help that out.

I'll help before I go to bed.

Yea, the guy running through him is a bug. Not totally unexpected for a still unfinished game trying to make launch of a new console.

The guy getting hit and then not moving much happens in numerous games. Many times in the batman titles you'll have guys literally standing around taking turns attacking, waiting for this or that enemy to attack before they do. I've even seen it happen in the Witcher. To this game's credit, I've seen videos of them swarming the shit out of the player pretty relentlessly, which is something, but let's be realistic here, this is still a videogame, and we know what to expect from AI.

And, yes, that guy warped. That's one of the common bugs seen in this build of the game, and I think I pointed it out earlier in the thread. Enemy characters have been seen warping from one spot to the next in this build of the game. I doubt something like that makes it into the final game.

That glowing thing you see is a sign that he can now be executed, I think.

Theres noway they are pumping it over an internet and back down that will be all on a lan.

Wouldn't be so sure about that one. The Crytek guy says in that IGN vid quite clearly that the only way to play this MP is by being online. It isn't done locally on the system in anyway. They were most definitely running that on some kind of internet connection on location.

Pretty sure it was pre recorded gameplay edited together for the trailer no? Doubt it was done at Gamescom. Most probably at the development studios.

Extremely debatable opinion right there.

None of what you see in that gif is pre-recorded gameplay. These are people playing live at Gamescom. The videos are up on youtube.

It's a special power granted to the player from a god they've chosen to worship. There's been strong hints that the SP game will involve gods and possibly some sort of otherworldly enemies, similar to god of war as a twist of some kind. I think it was confirmed that there is a god that appears to the game's main character and gives him advice, or something like that. Then there was that trailer we saw where they were focusing on some legendary warrior that was brought back from the dead.

.

yeah it´s clearly a bug.. for me it´s an unexpected bug. He runs straight through him, he doesn´t even attack him.. he just runs away.. but that should be easy to fix.

I get that.. it´s probably also the special attack he used that stuns the enemies that causes this.. it just looks so bad in this gif.

I hope they can fix stuff like that.. because warping enemies is a big bad bug, that shouldn´t be in any game..

That glowing thing you see is a sign that he can now be executed, I think

ehhh.,.. he is at the back of the screen. He has taken one little hit from the gas attack, and he is ready to be executed..? yet all the other enemies are still not ready to be executed..? unless that guy is a low-level enemy (which I doubt), then this is another annoying bug.

Yea, more than likely a bug, or maybe something done purposely as a side bonus of that special power. Maybe there's a small chance that you'll get at least one enemy into an executable state instantly with its use. Either that or, as we suspect, it's just a bug.

This game is like a modern day Streets of Rage or Final Fight, mixed in with some Zelda-type swords/shield combat. Who the hell would look at Streets of Rage/Final Fight/TMNT game and say "the combat looks tedious"?

It really is a modern day beat'em up.

Honestly, with the varied colliseum settings, an environmental editor and solid-co-op mode this game just keeps looking better and better. I really wasn't expecting this type of mode.

I see. I thought most of these were from a random trailer. Makes sense. I wonder if other multiplayer games at the show are having such issues or if Ryse just has particularly bad net code?

We dont know yet, but its probably both. Its definitely not running on LAN, not with such warping of coop player in the beginning cutscene.

BF 3 and Titanfall are definitely demoed in LAN settings.

It's a great looking game. Depth is questionable, animations are a bit janky and the hud is too dominant, it ruins the cinematic feel the games trying to create.

That colosseum environment looks really stunning, a shame they chose to have this ugly and intrusive HUD in MP that covers 30% of the screen.

Outside of the wonky ps1 era animation technology and artistry showcased here, I question the combat design decisions based from this video:

- You are basically fighting the same enemies over and over, I question how Crytek is going to implement a more erratic element in terms of foes and how that influence combat.

- The AI looks robotic, they walk unnaturally in lines, the amount of taunts this 'boss character'' makes is funny.

- I don't like how the enemies can dodge perfectly on the edge of a platform/against a wall, without any sense of the environment.

- The collision detection is so poorly conceived, bodies clip out of swords and hits have not weight or power in them.

- It seems comical to me that Crytek chooses these gory finishing moves overdrive with slowmotion, while the walking animations of the hero is goofy at best.

It seems to me that Crytek does not know anything what makes a hack and slash game good, and basically don't know what the hell they are doing.

That hud seems to only dominate the screen in MP. Remember the SP footage from E3? There was much less hud there.

Blims stream of the game from E3. Looking back at just the E3 level, it's insane how good this game looks. Makes you wonder what else is in store for the SP.

There is dismemberment, but you can't aim it. Lame. I wish, when enemies are at an execution, you could choose a part of the body.

The stages look cool. There are traps, but no kick button? Chivalry, Dark Messiah, etc. Of all games to not have a kick button...

Mess.

It looks okay, I plan on getting it at launch along with a host of other games.

But if I end up having to assess my budget and one needs to be culled, this'll be the first to get the axe.

It's really pretty, but the combat looks like a bit of a buggy mess. I just hope they're minor bugs that Crytek will be able to tidy up. The demo from E3 wasn't as bad, I don't think, things like the phalanx formation and context-sensitive executions were the things that had me interested in this in the first place.

I just hope the characters and story are as good as the developers promise.

Surprisingly dark10x who came with us at the GC just tried it this morning, and he found the gameplay to be actually a lot of fun.

The german guys playing in the video also say that the gameplay "is already a lot of fun". I guess there seems to be a real disconnect between how it looks and how it feels?

I think this game's looking great graphically speaking and quite a bit of fun as well. Hopefully the gameplay/combat system is deeper, since I could see it grow a bit stale if it remains like this throughout. Also, it looks quite stupid that the other characters keep going at a normal rate even if you initiate a slow-mo kill sequence. They also need to tone down the information shown on the HUD, a bit too overloaded right now.

This game looks horrible (other than it's graphics).
Stuttering, bad animations and QTEs for nearly every kill make this look like a huge pile of shit (and all the QTEs are slow motion and thus look very stupid to the other player and also strange to the player doing the QTE due to all the people moving at normal speed around them).
