I think this is making a distinction without much of a difference. If you want to see less of something but don't think it should be censored, how actively are you going to protect its right to exist vs express your distaste for it?There's pretty obviously a difference between wanting to see less of something and thinking it should be censored.
I don't think people should be racist. I wish fewer people were racist. I do not think that racism should be censored.
If you can't understand why people are bringing up the company she worked for and her own work after she insults the art & well respected artist of a niche game, you may need to come down, the air is thin up there on your high horse.Jesus @ the amount of ad hominem attacks in this thread. She's an environmental artist for Christ's sake, she has nothing to do with any character designs. If you're curious about her thought's on those Gearbox designs, try asking her on twitter instead of posting mindless dribble. You don't need to defend or justify Dragon's Crown in any fashion, I think the game looks great and plan to buy it. If you can't see why anyone would have any issue with the designs you're fucking naive.
Who gives a shit, this thread is insane. But highly entertaining, so continue.

I wouldn't doubt it.Stop ruining my dream that game developers are level-headed, reasonable, loving people who live in secluded, charming cottages and sing merrily as they craft interactive entertainment!
But seriously, talk about a knee-jerk response. She clearly knew jack shit about the game or the studio and started running her mouth based on her own deluded fabrications.
George Kamitani said:Ill go into detail about the reasons behind some of Dragons Crown design concepts.
I believe that the basic fantasy motifs seen in Dungeons & Dragons and the work of J.R.R. Tolkien have a style that is very attractive, and I chose to use some orthodox ones in my basic designs. However, if I left those designs as is, they wont stand out amongst the many fantasy designs already in the video game/comic/movie/etc. space. Because of that, I decided to exaggerate all of my character designs in a cartoonish fashion.
I exaggerated the silhouettes of all the masculine features in the male characters, the feminine features in female characters, and the monster-like features in the monsters from many different angles until each had a unique feel to them. I apologize to those who were made uncomfortable by the arts appearance, and did not see the same light-hearted fantasy in my designs.
hypocrisy for 500 Alex.. You just hit the nail on the head and you don't even realize it. Asthma is the least of your problems. The people bringing up her company are idiots, you have no idea what her opinion are on the games she works for. After all she might be making fucking rock textures. The high road helps with my asthma.
I know nothing about Dragons Crown other than it's characters look stupid to me, outside of the girl with a bow. The rest just look too odd.

In your this post and the previous one you make ad hominoem blanket attacks. Which is quite hypocritical based on the beginning of the first post.

That reads just like any other PR spin ("unique" "cartoonish" "light-hearted" "sorry if you were offended", it classically dances around the purported issue without addressing it). I'm not saying it's necessarily a big deal or anything to get "serious business" about, but that statement is empty. And again this needs to be re-posted for every dragon crown thread.
I was talking about HER..Who cares? You can judge a piece of art, it doesn't fucking matter what you've done. I could care less what she thinks about it.
Her opinion is totally valid, the Sorceress is highly sexualized can't even be argued. I just don't care.
Your point? I believe anyone posting Borderlands screenshots in here to prove a point is an idiot. Call me hypocritical, don't really care.

She calls out the artwork for Dragon's Crow to be juvenile then goes and designs this?

I think the outfit is pretty and unique for Mirana and I have no issue with it, but really just contradicts all her comments.
I think its what she said about something fucking something lol something 5th grader that people are upset about.
this is from a professional artist? it's anatomically incorrect,no hip and thigh is connected to nothing.
a person got paid for this?
Neh, this is her hobby stuff most likely, but she was an environmental artist In a game. So she isn't responsible for character design or modeling.this is from a professional artist? it's anatomically incorrect,no hip and thigh is connected to nothing.

What part of throwing stones while eating at the table in a glass house do you not get? ANYONE who has something to say on this topic is opening themselves up to heavy scrutiny, K***** opened up a poop storm. What part of "environmental artist" did everyone miss?
Blame Valve, it's their base model.

Yes, Big thighs, immense feminine strength..and Sir Mix a lot.Even if that is a sincere reference theme for her character what bugs me is that they have to justify the concept with a background in order to give a more acceptable answer.
What's wrong with just saying "we like big tits" and be done with it without being apologetic about it.
Also what about the warrior character? Is there a backstory that justifies her big ass?lol![]()

Is it low to cut down a stranger based on his or her looks? Of course it is. I don't agree with the comment or find it amusing in any way. But this sort of stuff goes on ALL OF THE TIME in OT. Choose any random thread that features a female celebrity, for example. Plenty of people will be making jokes about whoever it is being ugly or unbangable or whatever else. What's the difference here? You can't necessarily say that celebrities are in the public eye and this person isn't... she works for a high profile game developer and is actively putting herself out into public discussion.
Now, it would be one thing if people were upset because he was using her looks as a counterargument to her point, which of course is no way to argue with any semblance of logic. That did not seem to be the reason though that so many people had their feathers ruffled by this. And again, one-liner degrading jokes based on appearance that don't address the topic at hand are very commonplace in the OT.
Again, it was a stupid comment and I don't agree with it. I'm more just genuinely curious as to what the discrepancy is. Maybe Gaming side is just moderated more strictly and I've just never noticed?
Anyway, back on point, I really am getting so damn sick of big-titted parodies comprising such a large degree of female character design. It's embarrassing for the hobby and promotes the stereotype that all gamers are horny teenage boys. I know all of this has been said thousands and thousands of times here, so I'm not sure why I'm still taking the time to type this, but alas. It's too bad too, because Dragon's Crown looks like a neat game. Unfortunately though stupid designs can absolutely reflect poorly on the product as a whole, no matter how great the rest of the game actually is.

The only male character on there I hate is the sorcerer or whatever, because I personally can't stand that long white-haired emo dude look that is in like every anime-styled game ever. But it's not even the boobs and ass itself that creeps me out with this kind of stuff, it's those awkward painful-looking sexy poses combined with identical faces that are completely devoid of features, expression, or personality. It's super creepy and makes it pretty clear that the focus is meant to be their sexual features and not the characters themselves, and to me that's an artistic cop-out and boring.
The difference is we are better.
Are we?
Clearly you do or you wouldn't have clicked on the thread or bothered to post her "follow-up"Just curious, did anyone read her follow up post too?
Regardless, the amount of shits some people here seem to give about what people are saying on the internet is fucking insane. It's one thing to have issues with what a news outlet like Kotaku is posting as "news" and another to find some industry employee on some forum posting their opinion on something. Who fucking cares?
Absolutely we should be better. Again, I'm not endorsing the comment, and I myself would never be so blatantly mean-spirited. I just don't know why the hammer of justice fell on him so quickly when most of the time all have a merry laugh over in the OT when the same stuff occurs. The difference is we should be better. People deserve their right to an opinion and to be criticized for it. She's not a celebrity, she's not a model who makes a living off her looks. We have no idea the context of that photo either. It's just something to look down upon so we can have one less thing to feel bad about doing.
Also, wasn't this exactly what he was doing?:
Are we?
I'm sorry, but I didn't design, draw, or have anything to do with Moxxi at any point in my life. But if you're bringing her up, I'd say the main differences between her and something like the sorceress are that she's sexualized for a reason that makes sense, and that she actually resembles an actual person somewhat. I should clarify that it's not just a matter of the boobs themselves that makes it super weird, at least not for me. It's actually the tiny, featureless, expressionless face that lends the character no personality. It strips any character away and focuses solely on the sexual features, which is what creates the creepy factor. Even those sexy dwarves were miles better in that regard, just by having facial expressions.
I'll admit I was being totally hyperbolic and have a tendency to do that when I get annoyed. I got a little carried away and wrote that after reading how he responded to the PA guy with the dwarf drawing. I will apologize for the tone of that rant, but I still stand by the message of it. And I do believe that all art is open to critique, criticism, insults, everything, once it is made public. Constructive criticism is always the best, but to say that an artist's work should be shielded "the worst of it" is a bit naieve, as even that can be informative if you're getting enough of it v: You open yourself up to that when you release something to the public, whether it is art, games, or any creative endeavor (especially when it's deliberately provocative). And that's something that most artists are aware of and can usually handle just fine.

I'm no Mirana expert but I don't see anything preventing her to cover her legs more with her set, would probably be harder to cover her boobs thought.Apparently only 5 of you know how 3rd party item design works in the game pictured above. You can only add a few pieces to the character, and there are limits to what you can change. Basically, she added a flower to her hair, changed her dress style and added some made her own shoulder design. The rest is just the base model in a game she didn't make or design. As such...just don't even quote this shit. It makes you look stupid to people who do know how the workshop in this game works.
