Gearbox is making a Penn & Teller VR game

From Randy Pitchford's wikipedia page:

"Philanthropy

In 2013, Pitchford pledged $25,000 US to Penn Jillette and Adam Rifkin's crowdfunded film Director's Cut. In return for pledging, Pitchford received an executive producer credit as well as Jillette's ponytail."

What a strange leap

Not really. Randy Pitchford does magic, I think as a side thing (not joking) and did some panel or something a while back with Penn Jillette (don't remember what that was about). They must've decided to team up on a project.

Edit- D.I.C.E. Summit 2016 - Penn Jillette & Gearbox Software's Randy Pitchford

Images are new, but the collaboration is a year old: http://www.polygon.com/2016/1/12/10756876/desert-bus-2-vr-oculus-rift-playstation-vr-penn-jillette

"He's calling it Desert Bus 2.0," Jillette said of the sequel. "I'm calling it Desert Bus 1.0003. It'll be a period piece, it'll be set in 1992, like the original Desert Bus, just high-fidelity. We're doing a couple other games. It'll be a bundle of things. We're talking to a bunch of people. It'll probably be agnostic in terms of platform. It'll probably be for the [Oculus] Rift and for the PlayStation VR."

The pics made me realize Teller probably had more fat weight the Penn nowadays.

Gearbox has really been high rolling it these last few years. I'm always amazed by the brilliant creativity that comes from that studio and the excellent decision making skills they have.

For some reason I keep equating VR to mid 90's FMV and thats what this news feels like....

I honestly have a soft spot for '90's FMV games and I am kinda happy to see a small come back for the genre. Penn And Teller's Smoke and Mirrors was an FMV styled game for the Sega CD add-on, but it was never released.

Conceptually this game was way to out there (it was designed to troll the player), and was planned to be released on an add-on with a niche audience. It probably would not have sold very well. I think VR might be an interesting format to make a spiritual successor for Smoke and Mirrors . It is perfect for screwing with the player's heads. Desert Bus VR could be amazing too. But it all comes down to how well Gearbox will execute the game.

P & T should have instead partnered with SCS Software for Desert Bus 2.0. "From the makers of Euro Truck Simulator" has a more authentic ring to it than "From the makers of Battleborn"
