Gears' Level Designer: "See you in 2024"

This franchise needs a God of War 2018 style reboot.

I don't mean copy GoW 2018, but something vastly different from previous games, while still keeping the original DNA.

Make it a gritty FPS, for example, but with no real story. Just a bunch of buff, ripped, oiled up, half naked dudes killing armies with giant guns and chainsaws.

Nothing else required

Gears x X-Cum

give me Gears 1-3 remake first and foremost. Leave all the jank in it like all the glitches in Gearss 2 and let me bridge host like the old days.

Drop the semi open world nonsense, the soft as fuck main characters, and get back to the dark and grey, gritty and grimey, horror-based roots of Gears 1.

Stop chasing trends and go back to your fucking roots.

Christmas ideas:

1.
Go back to the roots, bring back Cliff, avoid all political correctness and go for tight action with comics-like macho men and curvy feminine ladies and linear levels and no robots. Dark and gritty. Call it Gears Zero. Pre Gears 1 story.

2.
Restructure the whole thing, go open world, Elden Ring-like map and structure, less blocky movement and cover, post Gears 5 story, crashed chopper in a jungle, about Marcus and Kait trying to survive and find a way through a dark and gritty hell hole, lots of new enemies, all beastly creatures, no machines, end game is some big enemy lair, crafting upgrades on weapon, swap characters on the fly, different strengths, one is always AI controlled or can be controlled through co-op.

3.
Different genre, top-down twin-stick shooter RPG. Made by Neon Giant who made The Ascent. Dark, gritty, futuristic, punchy action, role-playing, multiple endings. Story is far out in the future after Gears 5 and in a whole other part of the world with an all new cast. Upgrade your character through skill points, upgrade weapons through strategically placed loot and purchasable add-ons. Actually this might be The Ascent 2, so just buy the dev and rename the game if they're making a new game.

Gears 5 is a good game that is absolutely ruined by the characters and writing. Unless they're going back to the OG lineup I'm not even checking for it. No one cares about the girl or Marcus's metrosexual son.

The Coalition was gift wrapped a money printing franchise and they've done nothing but destroy it. From a technical and level design standpoint the games have been fine, so the ball is right there on the tee!

The story choice in 5 essentially killed this story arc for me. They pulled all strings to make us save Del but it felt horrible to see Marcus afterwards, I replayed it to save JD instead and for me that's the only ending there is. But I doubt they'll go with that choice in a continuation of that story and they can't afford to make two story arcs. They'll probably pull a ND and erase Marcus somehow, maybe he'll kill himself from sorrow, then we're stuck with Kait and Del.

Bring back Cliff, avoid all political correctness

He's a genious for gameplay tbh, Gears 1 is still better than every other third person game with shooting.

If your main reason to get him back is political correctness, he's probably much worse about it than the recent creators.

Gears never becomes a popular franchise if it started with Kait and Del.

Hard to be excited after 4 and 5, put the old squad back together and make Gears great again.

Gears 5 was almost flawless when it came to PVE MP modes, played it for years.

I'm not even sure a new game is needed but I'll take it.
Same, been playing 5 horde mode up until late 2021. Just jumped back in 6 months ago and now I'm addicted AGAIN😂😂been playing daily since. it's so good I honestly don't remember why I stopped but I'm assuming I started to play other games most likely

The difference is that all of those other series you mentioned are good. Zelda is always top tier, Sony have actually rested uncharted, God of War completely reinvented itself etc.

Gears is a product of the 00s that feels anachronistic now. It peaked at Gears of War 2 and now we are discussing a 6th mainline game? Yikes.
Thats your opinion. Not facts. There are plenty who disagree. I could care less for a Zelda, Uncharted or GoW. Never have. Id much prefer a new Gears over any of those titles. I just don't care for Sony titles or Nintendo.

That puts you squarely in an extreme minority, which is fine.

Gaming has moved on since Gears. Great games for their time, but time marches ever on. Like Halo, they feel like 'Dad's game' now.

I hope they drop the robots, drop trying to do something interesting with Jack and make the campaign something worth caring about.

Halo Infinite has the best gameplay of any MP shooter by far.

Sure. Still dads game. My day job is working with kids and none of them talk about Halo the way we did back in it's heyday. It's seen as an older person's game. It's good it still has some sort of audience.

You completely contradicted point 1 of your post. Avoid political correctness, include curvy feminine ladies with cliff involved? I'm guessing you don't really follow cliffy b much?

Do we really need another Gears, another not developed by Epic Gears? I mean what more can they do with this franchise to keep it fresh? I Just don't see it.

All games coming from big companies must have some sort of political correctness , lgbtq , female strength and independece , or minorities , take your pick , bigger companies are forcing them to do it

they even added these rules into hollywood recently , just look at how much money marvel lost recently because of it but it doesnt matter because they have to follow the rules , you have 2 choices , get used to it or play AA and indie games

Gears has been a disgrace since 4th. 5 was straight up terrible gears of war game.
I am saying that because gow trilogy might be my fav trilogy in gaming

Wow! Again, that's your opinion in your bubble. Not one even most agree on. I'm talking about beyond GaF.

And couldn't the same be said of GoW, TLoU, Zelda? Gaming has moved on from these titles, too? GoW is older than Gears. Kratos should've died eons ago. Uncharted went on too long. Forbidden West should've peaked and died with the first. How many games with bow and arrows do we really need?

Now, GoW is getting ANOTHER remaster starting from the first. They tried to make TLoU into a multiplayer game and failed. Bet money we'll see a TLoU 3....Good lord. Sony needs to come with some variety.

So, yeah. Opinions vary.
