Gears of War 3 Pushed Back to Fall 2011

To me it felt like a updated Sega Saturn or Dreamcast game. It has that old school feel of a Japanese action game you would find on those consoles.

Some mechanics that are not well thought out, such as manually picking up of weapons and ammo that slows down dramatically an otherwise fast paced game. Monotonous robotic enemies that are a chore to fight and don't variety to encounters. Weapons that don't really differentiate between each other and thus don't bring variety to an encounter. Only strategy available to the player in a firefight is to take cover or move really fast to another cover. Vanquish is the epitome of what constitutes a shooting gallery game.

Can you at least acknowledge that if you haven't played Gears 2 since launch your opinion is pretty much WORTHLESS in terms of multiplayer?

For the 600th time the multiplayer aspect of Gears 2 has been improved ten fold since launch. Along with quality map releases and balancing tweaks the game plays a hell of a lot closer to Gears 1 due to the shotgun being a monster again. That and the fact that the net code is pretty much totally fixed.

Edit - You haven't played Gears 2 online for over a year. Explains a lot.

So I'm supposed to keep playing a shitty game for a YEAR+ until they FINALLY make it decent? Get the hell out of here!

You don't buy a god damn car without breaks and one of the wheels and wait for the people who sold it to you to eventually put them in, but until then just hang in there with what you got.

I played it for a month, was in top 500 in 3 game types, so it wasn't a matter of sucking, but a matter of it just being a stupid game. I was not having FUN---one of the main reasons I play any game. Where the game is now I could care less, because better things have come along to occupy my time with that got it right out of the starting line.

I'll tell you an honest story and you can take it how you want it, but will probably just use it as some sort of fuel against me and this comment. I stopped playing Gears 2, because for the third game in a row one night the host did lag switch. The hyenas were laughing in their headsets and being just all around shit heads, and at that point I just took the disc out of the trey and snapped it in half. I've been gaming now for about 18 years since I was 5, and I have not once broke a controller, threw one, broke a game on purpose or accident, had a faulty console, etc. Gears 2 is the only thing that suffered being broken in half, because it was rabid dog shit on a stick. I'm a pretty calm guy, I laugh a lot, make jokes, and am easy going so for something like a game to get under my skin to a boiling point like that is somewhat of an achievement on their end of how crap it was. I was suckered in by a buddy to at least re rent the game about half a year or more down the line when some story DLC released and to try out the multiplayer again, which was still the same old bull shit.

Like people said though they got enjoyment out of the game without the multiplayer and for me I'll def. rent Gears 3 to finish up the campaign which I've had no qualms with. I like the characters, I like the universe they built, and I like their desperate struggle and the mysteries surrounding it. I'm not big on Horde mode, and the new beast mode doesn't do much for me either. Being burned as bad as I was with Gears 2 and the fact I refuse to be a hypocrite is why I won't buy Gears 3, UNLESS the game is open beta tested and/or has dedicated servers. I'm tired of host shotty advantage, host lag switch, host having a crap connection in general, chainsaws that funnel you in from far away, etc. If that's all ironed out right now in Gears 2 since I left...great, then there's some hope, but my expectations are set rock bottom.

You were playing some badass DC/Saturn games I've never heard of. Going to have to track those down.

Nobody has suggested that you had to play a shitty game for a year+ just the fact that your opinions on the multiplayer no longer hold any relevance as the game has changed an awful lot since you last played it.

In a similar situation to yours I also snapped my Gears disc in half after a match on Tyro Station due to sheer frustration with the lag and host bullshit. I obviously stopped playing the game for quite some time and still felt bitter towards the series when a friend suggested we try the game out one night after a title update promising fixes. To cut a long story short I was honestly impressed at all the changes they had made to the game like Region filters, No stun or knockdown from a smoke grenade, Triple melee, Upgraded shotgun, Lag switch rendered useless, Hip fire accuracy fix, and most of all the net code.

At the end of the day people can be bitter towards Gears 2 all they want but anybody who enjoyed playing the game but quit due to the problems should seriously take a look at picking up the game for cheap and giving it another chance.

If we both snapped our discs, then I think both of opinions on Gears 2 multi are 100% valid. I said in another post that was more of a joke back near the start of this thread that if you think about it Gears 3 will be more like Gears 4, since Gears 2 at launch and Gears 2 now are 100% completely different games. Plus you are saying my opinion on multi is null because of fixes that came SO LONG after. Well in that case all the reviews around the net are a crock of shit too from the get go. The multi sucked right off the bat, they praised it, now according to you it's good, so they'd have to update their scores because their opinions on the game are muted from not playing it anymore. This can go for any game including ones people enjoy not just hate. My opinion was formed as was everyones through time spent... I don't need to spend the rest of my life playing say Goldeneye N64 to finally reach some pinnacle point of a perfect opinion for what it is...just spend a healthy amount of time with it and come to conclusions about your enjoyment derived from it. Having to come back almost 2 years later to get the actual game is stupid to say the least. For me it's a matter of being a smart consumer though at this point.

I paid for the LE edition of Gears 2 at launch, had broken it, had a buddy plead with me to get a new copy a few days later, a week or two after that I traded it into Gamestop so I don't end up breaking that copy, re rented it months down the line after updates to buy DLC for it that was crappy DLC and the game was still shit, BUT NOW 2 years down the line I'm supposed to go "get it on the cheap" AKA 20-30 bucks because it MIGHT be decent/good? I've had enough buyers remorse with Gears 2. I'm sure you know the saying, "fool me once, etc etc."

It'd be like getting back with a girlfriend who cheated on me several times and expect her not do it again. She's disappointed me too much and only a fool would give it another go.

If Cliff B and EPIC can deliver a beta with dedicated servers for Gears 3 then count me in on the hype train and I'll pre order, but I do NOT expect this to be the case and I refuse to buy another broken game it took longer than 2 months to fix.(That's my wait period... 2 months. I'm in that wait period with FF14 right now)

I played gears 2 a few weeks ago and it still sucks compared to the original. I have 3 preordered and it better be more like the first game. I have high hopes bc gears gave me the most enjoyment out of a mp game since tribes 2. Gears 2 on the other hand is painful.

It seems Gears of War is destined to duke it out with Resistance for all eternity.

Gears of War - November 7th, 2006
Resistance: Fall of Man - November 17th, 2006
Proximity: 10 days

Gears of War 2 - November 7th, 2008
Resistance 2 - November 4th, 2008
Proximity: 3 days

Gears of War 3 - Fall 2011
Resistance 3 - 2011 (Probably Fall)

Dun dun dun.

Gears 3 is September. I can't imagine Sony putting R3 out before October. I reckon its a late October release, personally.

I disagree with you especially since i've played Gears 2 since launch and it wasn't as good as Gears 1 at launch but it was perfectly fun multiplayer and now it's above and beyond gears 1 in every single way.

I still think that Gears 2 has the best multiplayer of any game on a console and It really does make me shake my head at your post but I think Gears 3 will be fantastic as the rest of the series has been.

nice armor.

Damn it, came here to post this...

Looks like the Locust Queen, and in some gear that could look like she's playable in multiplayer like the other female Gears, which would be cool...

BTW, there we be some news, I don't know how big, so don't get all hyped for nothing, that will be announced tomorrow at 6 AM PST / 9 AM EST - I'll be patiently waiting for that, AND the MP news... :D

Gears 2 is the Biggest POS and a absolute digrace to what was the original period

put this in a couple a days ago again (i have all DLC) searched ranked... waited 15 to 20 minutes, then put into a laggy match.
search ranked again... another 15-20 minutes, i gave up. then searched local and was put into a room full of bots with 2 other players. wtf!

rinse repeat this and all of the other B.S that goes on with this game, then you have your honest clear verdit.

This game is/has been dead for a really long list of reasons, the amount of changes that hapenned to the game were really unnecessary.
delay/no delay, ammo counts, weapon balances, Map power weapon layouts (OMG RIVER), Wall tags, no Ping indicators
and fuck lets not forget the Shotgun issues (GOW1 shotty was balanced perfectly except being host)

Player Matches was the heart and soul of Gears 1 and kept the community thriving, playing late nights into a room of people you know/hated was the best experience of Gears of War
this should have been there on launch day,EPIC failed to realize this

Horde,Stopping Power,Crawling and No Active downs are pretty much the only postives to come out of Gears 2 imo

i wouldn't/couldnt recommend this to anyone, only redeeming factor of gears 2 is Horde Mode.

Ha.

Say what you want about Gears 2, before or after all the patches, but is most certainly is not dead. I pop it in every couple weeks or so and there's always games. Plus, it still hangs around or near the XBL top 10.

I still do agree with most of your points. The game is in a much, much better state right now but it was still a massive disappointment for me after all the time I spent with Gears 1 online.

Here we go again. Everybody is entitled to their own opinion which Gears game they liked the best but like ive said a few times in this thread already - My recent experience with the multiplayer has been good times all round. Unfortunately it doesn't sound that way for you but searching on your own for a game is really not recommended as it takes an absolute age. A lot of the changes implemented recently are changes that have been requested by the community so Epic aren't the only ones at fault here. Also the game has never been dead nor is it dead at the moment - It's been a mainstay in the top 10 most played games up until recently.

Hopefully Epic can combine the best of both games and offer us dedicated serves for Gears 3.
