yeah yeah yeah, the game is ****ing gorgeous. i am not disputing that. it is far and away the best game i've ever seen. by miles.
however, if i'm not mistaken, it has seen a downgrade in at least one aspect from older builds...
a few e3's ago, MS demo'd the night stage in which marcus follows a burning car down a hill to stay in the light. this is the same stage with the gas station. in that old build, you can clearly see that the flames from the car dynamically lit up the environment. as the car creeped closer to coloumns in the building for example, shadows would cast against the building and shrink or enlarge depending on the angle of the light. this isnt there in the shipped game. also, when the night rain stage was first demo'd, in the opening cutscene to that stage, the cogs casted long shadows from the headlights that are, again, missing.
are the environments no longer globally illuminated?
