Gears of War PC - DRM kill-switch set for Jan 28, 2009

This is the reason I would play Gears of War 1 and 2 on my 360 a not a PC.

oh, but its soo pretty and 60fps :)

Not a trade off for not working of course, but its a good port besides this drm shit. All the more reason to buy it and crack it.

Epic just shot themselves in the foot.

I don't know how much the rest of you know about PC Gaming (I'm an expert), but honor and shame are huge parts of it. It's not like it is in Console-Land where you can become successful by being an asshole. If you screw someone over in PC Land, you bring shame to yourself, and the only way to get rid of that shame is repentance.

What this means is the pc gamer, after hearing about this, is not going to want to purchase Gears of War 2 (windows 7 launch title), nor will they purchase any of Epic's games. This is HUGE. You can laugh all you want, but Epic has alienated an entire market with this move.

Epic, publicly apologize and cancel Gears of War 3 for 360 or you can kiss your business goodbye.
:lol :lol :lol :lol

that's what you get from playing gears of war on the pc and not on 360.
microsoft just fucked up every single one of you that didn't buy a 360 for GeoW.

gears of War.... Kill Switch...

Kill Switch... Gears of war...

Yup, called and they really didn't care. I could get a new number, but doing so I would be prevented from playing on line, or I could basically just figure it out myself, by guessing.

Happened with Left 4 Dead as well and EA was publisher. I'm pretty sure they gave out new keys to people that was affected. Did you try to get an exchange at the store you bought it from?

This never gets old. :D

I was going to post this, but it looks like someone else already got to it. Yeah, expiration date for PC games = REALLY really dumb.

I guess this completes the fuck-up that is Gears of War PC.

Crashes, Performance Problems and Bugs that are still not fixed and now the DRM prevents legitimate owners from playing the game...

Jesus Christ. To think Epic used to be one of the top-tier PC developers.
I never had a single problem with the game. :\

Huh. how about now?

Anyway, I was actually strongly considering a purchase for this game, now that I have a computer that can actually run it. (Instead of a laptop that struggled to play Left 4 Dead at 640x480)

Minus 1 sale, Epic.

and then this weekend Steam puts Rockstar games (including the Max Payne 1/2 pack) on sale... cold-blooded, Valve.

I don't get it. Is this satire?

I'm not saying someone went out there and said "let's fuck everyone over," but that someone said "let's go for a certificate system with an expiry date" and nobody else objected or saw anything wrong with it.

this was exactly my thought.

Damn, I used to respect Epic a lot more. The GeoW2 online fiasco and this are 2 nasty fuckups on such a short time interval.

Everytime I think, "Man, maybe I should consider to play on the PC again", something like that comes up and reminds me why I quit.

so, i take it you buy a console where every facet and gateway is solely controlled by the company that implemented this bullshit instead?

That shutdown expiration date would've been put in purposfully. The disgraceful thing here isn't the fact that someone screwed up the date, it's the fact that they put an expiration date on it period!

So what do they expect you do once the date comes around? Buy the game again :lol Sorry Epic, but I cannot condone such horrible business practises, you're not getting a single penny from me from now on!

You shouldn't really be playing console ports on the PC anyway.

I know no one should have to do this at all, but how hard is it to set back your clock until they get a fix out? I bet most people don't even use the date on their computers anyway, or if they do they can just use a cellphone.
