General Consensus and Hype for Halo 4?

Zero confidence because it's not being made by Bungie. I'll wait for people's reactions to how solid the campaign is.

Bungie never topped the CE campaign so i dont see how someone else (as talented as 343 seems to be) getting a stab at it has you at zero confidence. Halo2 campaign was abolutely terrible gameplay wise, Halo 3 was better but still not as good and id put Reach at the same level has 3. ODST ill give it to them was original but i have no interest in replaying that either. Thats my big problem with every Halo game after CE, ive never really enjoyed replaying them sp wise as much as i still do CE.

You really overrate Bungie me thinks.

I'm not holding them to an impossible standard, but my fear is that they will focus the majority of their efforts on the competitive mulitplayer which I don't really enjoy much anymore besides the occasional LAN.

i love the idea of incorporating metroid prime elements. tell me more *eyelash bat*

i predict it will be same of the year though.

Everything ive seen or read so far says the complete opposite. Not that no focus was put into the mp, it has, but a lot of effort has been put in the sp story and graphics while trying to keep the halo feel and not to mention that the game will now contain some of the lore thats only been in the books in the past, something Bungie never ever did. Or very very rarely. Like Reach for example, the book was so much better. If anything, this is what i always wanted and never got from Bungie.

I get the impression that Bungie felt like they could do anything they wanted and not follow the lore if they chose to just because they created the franchise. They became a little too George Lucas for my liking.

Truth. Just watch the Vidoc about the Master Cheif and you'll see a glimpse of how much effort they put into just Master Chief himself and Cortana for the SP.

Right now I'm not too hyped but I think before 4 comes out, i'm going to make it my mission to play through 1-Reach before tuesday rolls around. Should get that hype train rolling.

I'm looking forward to giving the game a shot. Multiplayer has me a bit worried with some of the changes that have been implemented, but I can't really judge until I've given it a shot. The campaign looks great, and spartan ops sounds like a great idea. So I guess I'm cautiously optimistic.

Luckily, all the changes take place around the periphery. So, if it's determined that, for instance, Promethean Vision or deathstreak bonuses don't work in a particular game mode, they can easily change the playlist to reflect that. Nothing is so ingrained in the core of the gameplay that it can't be tweaked or removed (aside from sprinting, I guess).

I remember when 3 came out, I was quite pleased with the camo pick up. You literally couldn't see you opponent when they have camo on.

I think halo 4 will be good, especially since I pre ordered it on newegg for 49 USD. A decent price already for a game with multiplayer. Same thing with blops 2, except it's 52 USD.

I'll definitely give it a rent and beat the single player. I've liked them all, including 2.

But I can't say I have any real desire for MP.

Anyone know how all the progression stuff in MP is handled with guest accounts for people playing splitscreen online? Are my local friends always going to be stuck with the base level goodies?

Not going to buy it at release. I just want the campaign. I'll wait till it's cheaper. Hopefully they'll Redbox it. If not.. I'm a patient person. Don't care anymore.

I dunno man but I dont see it topping the battles in halo 3

just replaying it now and holy crap. the tsavo high way ( how do you spell it?) is off the charts!

not even reach came close to this sort of scale.

Guest profiles have all the same unlocks available as the main profile.

You're right about that, let's hope that if something like that is the case those changes, will be implemented quickly.

I could say I'm a tiny bit concerned about the addition of loadouts, but I think that comes down to realizing that this Halo game is just going to be a different kind of game. In previous Halo games I felt that it was interesting that everyone started with a base kit, but by moving through the maps you found different weapons that would add to your play style, whatever that was. In a way the weapons helped the maps flow. By giving players the DMR/BR/Light Rifle at start, you can just stick with those weapons and not move around the map looking for anything new, of course that is up to the players choice. I'm curious to see how that is going to change how Multiplayer works, so I'm looking forward to jumping in and checking it out.

Very excited to play through the single-player, both alone and co-op. I've always loved the Halo campaigns.

Not sure about the multiplayer. I played an insane amount of Halo 2 and 3 online for years and years, but when Reach hit I just couldn't get into it. Played it for about a month and that was pretty much it. We'll see if 4 is any different.

Funny because I'm excited about H4 because it's not being made by Bungie.

Goodbye and good riddance, I say. Bungie is horribly overrated, especially on this site. As far as I'm concerned they've made 2 good games on 4 attempts, and there's plenty of evidence to suggest that the first two were nothing but flukes.

I bought an Xbox for Halo and a 360 for Halo 3. Love the series but haven't even followed any of the threads here for Halo 4. No Bungie has me at zero interest. I'm not saying the game won't be great just saying that it isn't on my radar.

I have waited for every Halo game on 360, never get them at release.

This one wont be any different. Will most likely pick up when price drops.

The Halo 4 Mongoose is just a shitty retextured Reach Mongoose instead of the awesome Halo 3 Mongoose. Halo is dead to me.

Well I haven't played a Halo game since the original, and I didn't care for any new versions, but after seeing a gameplay vid of Halo 4, I must confess I'm interested.

Will wait for reviews though before I buy, as I'm only interested in the singleplayer.

Most hyped since Halo 2 for me. Don't think it will sell as much as Reach and Halo 3 though out the gates cause of the Nov. release date.

Pretty much the only game I'm buying this year (It's been a horrible year for all sort of reasons, and I'm not really what you would consider a gamer any more).

Looking forward to it. :D

Hype thru the roof for both campaign and multiplayer. 4 just looks to be the highest possible quality. I loved CE, 2, and 3 - but you could tell bungie was getting tired of the series beyond that. It was time for someone new to step in.

On the multi end, me and my crew loved H2 and 3 to death - then Reach showed up and was probably the biggest my disappointment in gaming history - it was and is a complete turd. Reach's maps in particular are horrible, total flops. 2 maps for invasion mode (the only mode we ended up liking) out of the box was a complete and utter joke. Armor lock was never a good idea. Bungie phoned that shit. After playing H2 and 3 for literally years, we stopped playing Reach within a month or 2. Halo 4 looks like it puts more focus on teamplay and objective modes - Halo objectives are whole reason my crew plays Halo multi. The animation looks amazingly fluid and it looks like theres crazy skillbased movement options like boosting - normally reserved for crazy japanese mech games. This is very welcome for competitive multiplayer. Theres no armor lock in 4, right?

For campaign Bungie have never been the best storytellers - their cutscenes were generally weak and I feel they never told their stories all that well with having such a rich universe to work with. It will be interesting seeing the franchise in new hands - you can already see a major leap in story presentation in the making of H4 videos. Graphically and stylistically alone, H4 looks leaps and bounds beyond what came before. 343 has embraced the sci fi aspect of it with wild ideas left and right (like the mantis). H4 looks to right the ship.

I've been working on some licensed branded Halo 4 product. The company that obtained that license had the meeting with 343i to discuss the details and available products.

The Product manager of the licensee and I both being gamers had a candid discussion on how 343i saw the future of the Halo brand. This is true and I'm not making this up. 343i are positioning the Halo brand to be a cultural touchstone (their words) like Harry Potter or Star wars (their examples) with all kinds of related media, movies, comics, TV ect.

I think the Product manager and I were on the same page when we gave each other "that look" and then changed the subject.

Holy...! Great news!
Does this include armor? Doesn't matter of course, but would be nice.

Also, do guests then progress like in COD Black Ops or do they just get new stuff as the host buys new stuff? I mean, within one session.

I'm not sure about cosmetic unlocks, and I'm pretty sure that guests don't rank up independently.

im not the biggest Halo fan but i always end up getting it day 1 for some reason, if this was released a month or 2 before Black Ops I would be more excited but I just dont see myself having enough time for 2 MP shooters and im sure Black Ops will get most of my gaming time.

I'm a moderate Halo fan (been playing since 1, got the movies books. but suck at multiplayer, don't know all the mythos etc.)

And this is the first game in the series other than Halo Wars (and 1) that i didn't reserve and don't plan on going to a midnight relases for...

I am cautious, I plan on buying the game in the few days after launch... but some of the changes have me wondering.... (not even sure if my wife is getting herself a copy, she owns her own copys of ODST, Reach and Halo Wars)

I cannot even imagine the pressure that 343 had with this project....
