General Gaming Podcast Topic

How do you add a podcast to the list? I just found a really good one.

During E3 week, I was over browsing at this site called "*****" (they had a live blog of the Nintendo "Secret" conference, and I noticed they have a podcast section there too. Long story short they are all pretty good except one stands out above the rest as the cream of the ***** podcast crop.

http://www.*****.com/podcasts.php?show=3

It's called MaxKom and it's the site's "community" podcast. The cast is probably the funniest group I have heard since GFW and it's really pretty entertaining. I actually subscribed to their podcast channel on iTunes but it was only for this podcast. Check it out.

EDIT: Any reason why K-O-M-B-O is a restricted word on here? I'm kind new so I'm not really sure...

Were prolly going to have to add "PitPass Report Podcast" (Forza Motorsport) to the list.

I TOTALLY AGREE! I thought I was the only one who listened!

So yeah, please add PitPass and MaxKom to the list. Both are highly qualified to make the rankings, lol.

That word is probably on the banned words list, I'll work my way around it.

Sure, I'm looking into that.

This will be only for people who understand Japanese or are studying it, but Atlus Japan recently started their own podcast. You can find it on iTunes by searching for アトラス or Atlus. Both should give you only one hit to the podcast. Enjoy! The latest ep talks about Persona 4, and it's pretty interesting to listen to.

I'm going to give this Player One thing a listen.

I like Retronauts, GFW, 1Up Yours and Game Theory. Podtoid is good too.

I used to listen to Destructoid's RetroforceGo, but I got tired of each episode being a 100MB+ download for like 60min, so I stopped until those guys learn how to use MP3 compression. Why use high bitrates for human voice when full-lenght music albums sound okay at as low as 128kbps ?

Great Thread! I missed it before. Will be adding to my podcast list today.

Some voting since you asked:
Audio (Weeklies)
1. GFW Brodeo
2. Angry Gamer
3. 1Up Yours
4. 1UP FM
5. CAGcast

Bi-Weeklies
1. Legendary Thread
2. Retronauts

Video
1. Totally RAD Show
2. 1Up Show

If anyone HASN'T checked out Tapezilla yet, this would be the week to do it. I think it's really hit its STRIDE. And plus, NeoGAF gets ribbed a bit.

Retronauts is probly my favourite and is perfect for new commers as you can start from Ep1 due to them discussing old games its not news/time sensitive.

1. retronauts
2. 1up Yours
3. GFW
4. Game Theory
5. PlayerOne

I liked their bits on youtube, but when I tried to DL it, it errored.

I'm on a podcast diet this week because all anybody will be talking about this week and the next few will be Madden.

Alright finally!

I've taken all your top5 and top3's and put the together and this was the top 5!

1. 1up Yours with 62 points
2. GFW Radio with 52 points
3. Giant Bombcast with 28 points
4. Retronauts and Game Theory both with 12 points

Last poll's third place Player One Podcast isn't anywhere near this top 5 anymore, what happened??

Just a heads up for the list operator - the Angry Gamer Focus Test and the Angry Gamer Podcast are the one and the same - they use the same website, iTunes and RSS feeds.

The "Podcast" was 15 minutes mostly scripted comedy bits about video games and the people who make them. After Series 5 Episode 15 it went on indefinite hiatus.

The "Focus Test" is 30 minutes and is like a cross between This American Life and beer. Each week the three team members each bring in a game based on a new topic and play them on air while talking about why they picked it and what it means to them. The other two team members then try it out and make fun of the other's taste. It's been going for 12 episodes now and is quite good.

Ahaha :lol Maybe you should've got your community here all posting P1P in their top 5's in here?

I'm Kidding Phil I'm loving you show, but I can't change the voice of the people I'm afraid. :(

(More singing please?)

Thanks, I've just deleted the Focus Test :)

I just recently "discovered" podcasts and how wonderful it is to listen to them at work ;)

Anyway what software do you guys use to schedule and download podcasts? I know about Itunes but I would love some alternative. It doesn't have to be fancy just simple to subscribe and have it download stuff whenever it becomes available :)

Thank you for your time!

iTunes does that very well. But I'm using the Zune software (which is free to download too) to keep my music and podcast collection up to date.

Zune software is good. I'm sure iTunes does this too, but I can give every podcast different "Series Settings", so I keep the latest three GFW and Player 1 podcasts, only the latest 1up Yours, and every Retronauts. Works well.

I use this:

Why download podcasts when you're only going to listen to them once? (unless you want to listen to them on your iPod or something, but there's no point to downloading them if you listen to them on your PC)

Hm, which Tapezilla link errored? You'll be happy to know we barely mentioned Madden this week.

I'll add those two tomorrow.

Another note: I'm building a nice list of all the podcasts that were mentioned here and I've got the basic structure working (thanks to a friend who knows a lot more about php and stuff than me.. Anyway, here's the 'beta': http://banzaidesign.nl/podcast/index.html

The only thing you can click on is the latest episodes button, which pulls the data from the rss feeds of the podcast

I decided to give Gamers With Jobs a try. They're so peppy it's almost irritating. It's like listing to the Up With People podcast.

I listen to alot of these and I think we're missing a podcast that actually talks about videogames. I would say most of them talk around videogames.

ALL of these are good, but ALL are very general discussions; we get the "what you been playin", news, insight and upcoming games segments, but very few actually talk about the meat of specific game experiences. I want something like 1upFM's backlog but for current games. A podcast that's spoiler-heavy and detailed about a current game release for the hardcore. Anything?

I did a two hour long BioShock podcast that was spoiler-heavy and actually provided some pretty deep analysis, but no one ever listened to it. D:

Yeah, I loved Giant Bomb's Snakecast and I wish more people would do stuff like that.

Oh wow, apparantly Game Theory calls it quits! :O

End of the Road

We're sure that a lot of you have suspected this, but sadly, the Game Theory Podcast has come to an end. We apologize for keeping our loyal listeners in the dark for the past weeks, but other responsibilities took priority over the podcast as we slowly came to the realization that we simply don't have the time anymore (and also, we feel like we've said everything that needed to be said).

It's been quite a ride and we're quite proud to have attracted some of the more intelligent and insightful listeners amongst the gaming community. We thank you all for the support and comments.

You can still get your dose of Colin in his always candid Opinion and Links entries on Edge-Online. If you didn't hear, some guy named Denzel Washington liked Gary's script, so that's being made into a Warner-distributed movie. Kris will continue on at Edge-Online as an editor.

So again, many thanks to all. It's been fun.

Signing off,

Game Theory Podcast

Booo!!! That news deserves its own thread.

I liked GT, do we get a final podcast?

Looks like the list needs to be updated then, two great podcasts stricken from the op :(
