General Gaming Podcast Topic

Booo!!! That news deserves its own thread.

I liked GT, do we get a final podcast?

Looks like the list needs to be updated then, two great podcasts stricken from the op :(

Yeah, I'm going to create a 'In Memoriam' section, just for them. :lol

I'll add those two tomorrow.

Another note: I'm building a nice list of all the podcasts that were mentioned here and I've got the basic structure working (thanks to a friend who knows a lot more about php and stuff than me.. Anyway, here's the 'beta': http://banzaidesign.nl/podcast/index.html

The only thing you can click on is the latest episodes button, which pulls the data from the rss feeds of the podcast

Did they friend drop the support?

What I'm not going to do right now is to use this podcast topic to mention the Christmas Special of the BritishGaming.co.uk podcast, BGB Shout. It's not so much a christmas special in that it's not really festive, just that it's a special episode.

Basically, one hour of highlights from the show, so you can get a taste of the random rants from myself, McBacon and Rogultgot as we talk about the subjects in the most irreverent way possible. Almost. There's a tasteless death, emails from an e-girlfriend, and malicious cropping of an audio clip so that somebody says that they want to be a lady.
There's also 3 big features, coverage of a indie-game event Dare To Be Digital, a discussion on Football Manager 2009 between someone who's never played the series before and a football fan who has, and an interview with Dan Teasdale of Harmonix.

The show's on a bit of a break... there's a Retrospectacular on it's way, but we're still looking for feedback, suggestions and thoughts of where to go with the show.

I want something like 1upFM's backlog but for current games. A podcast that's spoiler-heavy and detailed about a current game release for the hardcore. Anything?

You should give the Squadcast a shot. That's all we do.

EDIT: Oh wait...you said current games. Well, we do those sometimes but mostly we stick with older games. Still, give us a shot anyway.

Also, I've been listening to Idle Thumbs a lot recently and it's a great show. It's done by Chris Remo of Gamasutra and a rotating cast. Great conversations.

http://gamingvice.net/- Vice Weekly Podcast

The website may not look like much but their podcast, Vice Weekly, especially the latest episode, has really come into its own. Its format is that there is no format and so that, in turn, keeps the podcast from following the stale "1up Yours" style format while developing some great conversations. I was a featured host on their latest episode and some of the things we covered were:

- Tekken 6 and Street Fighter IV technical analysis
- Reaction to Smash Bros. on VC and the debate on it being a fighting or party game
- Crappy game endings and, on the opposite side of the spectrum, games where we loved the ending
- Christmas gaming
- Casual talk on everything from Left 4 Dead, LittleBigPlanet, and Chrono Trigger to Wind Waker, Halo 3, Fallout 3, and World of Goo.

Seriously guys, you should all check it out. You can get it on the website, through the RSS, and, of course, it's on iTunes. Search "gamingvice.net" on iTunes and you can find it super easily.

If they haven't been mentioned, I have to give a shoutout to Hardcore Gaming 101. So far they have four episodes. Although they have been released irregularly, the content is excellent. Don't forget to check out their articles either!

After a few weeks of recording test shows we've finally launched episode one of the VideoGamer.com podcast. This is our first proper show (the pilot is out there but not at all promoted) so we'd appreciate any thoughts you may have.

Featured Games: Killzone 2, Chronicles of Riddick: Dark Athena, Fable II: Knothole Island and Lord of the Rings: Conquest. We also discuss the December US game sales, display some terrible maths skills and tackle the tricky issue of cow licensing.

I am in the market for something new. I love the Giant Bomb crew but their podcast is 70% stuff I do not care about (which makes it really damn long). Iswear I have seen podcasts that were broken up in such a manner that I could press forward on my ipod and it would jump to the next bookmark in the podcast. I really wish they would do this a long with many other podcasts I listen to. FF from the car adapter I use is really slow and to tell you the truth, when I get to a story I do not care about that I know is going to take 15+ minutes to talk about, I usually just skip to the next podcast.

Tip for Giant Bomb, use AAC bookmarks and/or put "news of the world" first (because it is a lot more interesting than "so what have you been playing."

198x - Podcasts about games
I co-host this podcast that has the following and simple premise:

Two idiots with absolutely no connection to the gaming press ramble about games for roughly 90 minutes every week.

We don't work for any press outlet, we aren't freelancers (one of us isn't even currently employed) and we make no money off this endeavor. However, we are dedicated to the progression of the industry, passionate about games both great and terrible, and generally (I said generally) educated about the history of the medium. Just two consumers who have a passion. Thanks in advance for anyone who listens, its greatly appreciated.

Oh, and we have some pretty sweet intro/outo/break tunes.

What's up peoples? I'm here to humbly announce a new podcast featuring myself and two friends:

Warning! A Huge Podcast will focus specifically on Japanese gaming -- both import and Western localized varieties.

Your hosts are all ex-GameFan/ex-Play staffers: shidoshi, Nick Rox, and Casey Loe (known as Takuhi here on GAF and in GameFan).

Please know that our first episode is rough and rambly. We hope to get it down to a science in the near future, as well as acquire higher-quality mics.

In any case... if you're one of those types who have a yen for J-gaming -- or maybe just dug GameFan back in the day -- please do give us a listen! Link in the image above.

Breaking News:
I asked Mark when the podcast is coming and he said
@Guv_Bubbs If I had to guess, I'd say later than two weeks but sooner than...eight? Top men working on it. Top men!
So that's good to hear :D

Nice. I'd love to guest on that shiznit. Mad insights available here!

Greetings, folken. Our second episode is now available:

We would be ever so pleased if you'd give us a listen. Our li'l podcast is all about Japanese-developed gaming: Mostly import, but also domestic releases. Link in the image above.

Some of GAF listened to the Broken Controller Podcast, before it went off the air. A few even remember listening to the first seven episodes of the Game Enthus podcast, back in '08.

Well Indifference is back and he is the host of the relaunched Game Enthus (http://www.gameenthus.com) site and podcast. Joined by AssaultSuit and Tiny, they talk about what is going on in the industry, what they are hearing, how life is as adult gamers, and remember the "good ole days". Give it a listen and give some feedback, because they are looking to improve and provide a show for the gamers out there.

Oh shiny, place to put podcast

Ours is just a community based gaming podcast. Where we rant and rave about the news of the week. Most recent episode is the best me thinks, with a fall preview

Flap Jaw Space: the DigitalChumps.com podcast.

We've got about 7 episodes in the can. We're idiots. We pick a few topics each week and let the discussion take its course.

Also, we make one of our guys who tends to gravitate toward Nintendo titles (read: he grew up a fanboy) play "games he shoud've already played", (i.e. Bioshock, SoTC, Uncharted etc) and discuss his alien-visting-earth-for-the-first-time perspective on some of these types of titles.

Check out the latest episode and if you don't think we're morons listen to the old ones too. Or tell us how much you hate us.

Smart move. If there is one thing the podcasting space lacks it is self-deprecation.

I read your post as "self-description" and thought you made a nice suggestion that I should've told a little bit about what our podcast is like. So I did. :lol

But yeah, self-deprecation is rampant.

Thanks. Our seven or eight fans would disagree. :lol

Sorry if this has already been posted, but have anyone heard The Digital Cowboys' latest podcast about the best videogame characters of all time?

It's a lengthy, but truly epic, podcast, separated into two parts. The second half is coming next week.

Digital Cowboys: The 50 Greatest Video Game Characters – Part 1

I really enjoy listening to The Digital Cowboys. They don't talk the mainstream topics of "What have you been playing this week?", but instead get a bunch of different guests to talking about a wide range of different topics in a very in-depth style. Give it a listen!

After leaving another podcast for personal reasons, I started up my own show with a good friend of mine. Since my site, Handheld Heroes only does reviews, articles, and some video, we don't receive the traffic other sites do that do news as well.

Anyway, I am getting off topic. My new show is HeroCast. I hope some of you enjoy it

Thanks for this thread to be able to introduce more people to lesser known podcasts :)

This is really odd. So, there's this well-known-to-comedy-nerds comedian named Brent Weinbach. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m_fM8DNOjKE http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XQn3Mb8Ts-U

He apparently likes video games a bit, to the extent that he posted his 10 favorite NES songs on YouTube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZbQWMXWKc2c and started a video game music podcast. http://legacymusichour.blogspot.com

I was thinking about making a separate topic for it, but he mispronounces things and isn't extremely insightful (he knows some things, like Mitsuda getting ill during Chrono composing, that most NeoGAF people would know), the games he chooses are pretty well-known to gamers, and he, for some reason, doesn't try to make the podcast funny. It's just a regular video game music podcast.

I'm thinking about begging Ray Barnholt and him to do a funny version of the show. Until then, there's a really weird podcast!

My podcast favs:

Red Sun Gamer
Japanese gaming, no weeaboo pillow humping, close to no otaku stench, multi plat.

Drunken Gamers Radio
Casual multi plat and retro gaming, best chemistry a podcast can have.

Interactive Distractions
Bro romance heavy, but usually decent, multi plat.

Game Crashers
Pretty loony at times, got some industry background, a few of their hosts are devs, multi plat.

Gamers Only Older
Multi plat, pretty clever, they know their shit about RPGs (old and new), but enjoy all kinds of genres.

DownToForIt X
Gaming parody podcast, great production value and scripts, rare treat, always funny.
