Adventure games
Anybody remember light-gun games?

First person dungeon crawlers, luckily there are still handheld releases.
Sure, if your dying genre also has the stipulations that it has to be an XBO exclusive and star a kangaroo and be as popular as <Insert one of the most popular games of all-time> then yeah, it's probably dying.
But we had Rambo just last year! :/
This thread always goes the same way. PC gamers go deep for some obscure games list and they "disprove" they aren't dying. Sorry I ain't using my PC for anything but work.
STG/shmups. Still some releases here and there, but mostly indie. Cave co is seemingly dead![]()
I agree, and it's a damn shame... Total Annihilation and Supreme Commander were the last great ones I spent any real time with.RTS is absolutely nothing compared to what it used to be.
This far in and no one has mentioned rail shooters?
And every year, we get people saying that JRPGs are dead or dying and every year more good games come out in the genre than I have time to play.
Real-Time Real Time Strategy
But I hope they do eventually have a revival.

3D Platformers
Tycoon/Simulation (Europa Universalis, Tropico, Zoo Tycoon, Rollercoaster Tycoon)
Extreme Sports (SSX, Tony Hawk, Matt Hoffman)
Arcade Racers (Burnout, Ridge Racer, Outrun)
SRPG (FFT, Luminous Arc, Disgaea)
Puzzle (Tetris, Puyo Puyo)
Hack N Slash (Devil May Cry, Ninja Gaiden)
Party games (Mario Party, Crash Bash)
Rhythm Games
Beat em ups like Final Fight, Streets of Rage 2.
On second thought - The Zombie beat em up that's part of 3DS streetpass games is keeping it alive.
And the 3DS got a 3D remake of SoR2.
Really not sure how SRPGs are dying, particularly since you mention portable ones.3D Platformers

Really not sure how SRPGs are dying, particularly since you mention portable ones. Mercenaries Saga 2 and Lost Dimension just came out on 3DS and Vita respectively, we had Codename Steam in March and Natural Doctrine last year too. There's also Liege upcoming, that looks pretty cool too. And Project Phoenix is due next year, although we haven't heard anything about it for ages. Plus Fire Emblem: Fates, and Rainbow Skies. I think there's a new Luminous Arc game coming up too.
this. I didn't realise they stopped making them until I saw a copy for the original Xbox at a local game shop yesterday. I bought it without hesitationRealistic tennis gamesaka Top Spin![]()
Ah, I'm not much of PC gamer so thanks for thatDisgaea's far from dead, as well. It's getting pretty regular releases. You've also got Summon Night 5 being localized this year, the Devil survivor remakes released on 3ds, and a few other indies. If we're being more general with TRPGs, you can look at Shadowrun Returns, dragonfall, and the new one in development among many other games.
3D Fighting Games
VF is dead
SC is on the verge of death
Tekken is recycing the same assets over and over causing it to sell worse and worse with every iteration
DOA is the only game which is staying healthy only with otaku's dumping 100's of dollars on bare-naked attires on the girls.

I suppose you've got stuff like Gunslugs and Mercenary Kings, but I do miss the beautiful pixel art of Contra IV and Metal Slug 7 on DS. Metal Slug 3 on Vita is pretty cool though. Funny how those two just remain the kings of the genre.run and gun platformers like metal slug or contra.
Light gun games were mentioned.
If you're talking Star Fox...aside from SF0, the last one that I can think of is 2011 Yars Revenge. This is one genre that'll definitely require indies to survive.
Cave catered to an ever shrinking fanbase that ended up killing them and the shmup genre along the way.Bullet hell killed SHMUPS, I know many people like them, but personally I think they ruined things...
Maybe on the AAA side, but there's been a resurgence among indie games. Distance, Drift Stage, Power Drive, Redshift, 90s Arcade Racer, Road Redemption, etc.Arcade racing games are pretty much dead.
Ridge Racer![]()
Plus Invisible Inc and Marvellous Miss Take and Styx and Tangiers and Mike Bithell's Volume and the Tenchu-inspired Twin SoulsI don't know. There are quite a few stealth/pseudo-stealth games coming out.
MGS
New Ghost Recon
Dishonered 2
Deus Ex
Hitman
Even though Blacklist didn't sell as much as Conviction, I really doubt Ubisoft is done with Splinter Cell. The stealth genre has always been pretty niche to begin with.

Which is why none of them are stealth games. Stealth games are games that are about sneaking. Not sneaking is risky, and often gets you punished.Stealth games are NOT dying, we just dont need the genre anymore. Look at DEUS EX:HR, Fallout 3 +, TES series, Assasin's Creed 1+, Far Cry1+ -- all of those games have stealth elements already as a CHOICE for the player.
What a lovely opinion. I like action games that support optional sneaking. I also like stealth games. Saying that the genre is obsolete is like going up to a shooter fan and being like, "Hey, it's cool that you like shooting, but you know, there are games where you can talk your way past enemies, so we don't need the shooter genre anymore."Stealth is better when you can blow it and keep playing when the shit hits the fan.
