Genshin Impact |OT| 5.0 (Natlan) - Everything Changed When the Fire Nation Arrived

Well I think I'm going to put Genshin on time out for a while. I'm not uninstalling but I won't be logging in everyday. I'll be around for big events and anniversary stuff for the freebies. But the lvl 100 thing among others is really greedy and it makes me like the game less. I didn't want to support it. The new characters are fairly cool, but WuWa has them completely beat in this department anyway.
I mean we're almost upon 6.0, seems like a bad time to quit, but I get the sentiment at least.

Interesting that Crystallize will be getting a "Lunar" version. Wonder if this can finally save non-mono GEO teams.

Honestly so far Lunar reactions are a big disappointment so I don't expect much. Lunar Charged is mostly just a visual update to electro charged.

Lunar Bloom is worse as it does nothing except generate verdant dew stacks and now there's rumors that Nefer's kit removes dendro cores altogether so it removes bloom reactions from her teams.

The whole lunar mechanism just seems like a way to drive fomo so people pull for the new characters.

And ya I get that 6.0 is happening, but there always something happening. I'll be around for freebies like I said but I'm just past caring that much anymore.

Well the main advantages to lunar charged is that it's got a higher base multiplier and it can crit. Pretty big deal if you ever enjoyed playing taser teams (which I do), but yea, without asspulls they don't really have any other secondary ways to make people pull new characters, so they're going to likely keep doing this type of thing until the game ends. Still confused me why they rushed Skirk out and didn't just do it later as a "void" or "Abyss" element character. Could have been all new reactions etc.

I haven't read about the lunar bloom stuff yet, but people are saying Lauma severely powercreeps Nahida in the same teams, so there's gotta be some reason for that.

I've been going back over the past few weeks and trying to finally clear up my quest log from Fontaine/Natlan quests, and I just finished the Narzissenkreuz quest line, holy shit 10/10 writing, planning, and storyboarding. It basically included quests from the very first Fontaine patch and built and added in every version, and culminated with a really bittersweet but optimistic ending. Fascinating that there were little lore tidbits on books/slabs all through Fontaine that gave more flavor text for the Ordo and the involved characters (which you don't really realize until later). Like somebody had everything planned out from the beginning and it all fell in place perfectly. On top of that, there's a one-time boss (ok variant of another boss, but still) with unique mechanics, and you get probably one of the coolest looking swords in the game as a quest reward (and can even R5 it.)

I'm so used to a lot of modern games just pulling shit out of thin air when they need it, for quests. This was such an awesome moment realizing how everything comes together, and I'm surprised I didn't hear more about it. To be fair, a lot of people probably didn't do all the pre-requisites or follow-ups to even get some of the quests started. Just goes to show, even though I got a bit burnt out, the World Quest people at HoYo are still some of the best in the business when they put their all into it. It's also nice to see a real "ending" for a quest where they wrap up every loose thread. More games need to start doing that again.

Also, is there anything else to do with Pahsiv (melusine) after you empty out her shop and get her all the foggy branches? That was another cool quest but they language thing they tried with her just didn't work out. I had no idea what she was getting at most of the time.

Yea but because it hits every 2 seconds it can actually end up doing less damage than Electro Charged which hits every second.

Lauma does indeed powercreep Nahida and it's fucked up, but it has nothing to do with Lunar Bloom.
She has Dendro and Hydro res shred in her kit, she has C2 Nahida in her kit (allows bloom reactions to crit), and her burst gives bonus damage to bloom reactions similar to Shenhe quills. Rip Nahida.

The only thing Lunar Bloom does (so far) is each time you generate a dendro core it provides "Verdant Dew" stacks, which Lauma uses to fuel her hold skill.

Not sure, after you empty out her inventory she no longer shows up there. I never looked into whether there is more to it after that.

Lunar Reactions don't seem that exciting yet, but most characters are part of a bundle nowadays. Mavuika/Citlali, Escoffier/Skirk, Ineffa/Flins and if leaks are to be believed Lauma/Nefer. It might take some time to gain traction. Or it could just be disappointing like most other region mechanics. It's not like Fontaine's were good.

I'm sure spreadsheeters/youtubers will figure out the math, but I doubt HoYo would make a new mechanic worse than an existing one if they're trying to sell the new one.

I see. I'll have to read up on that stuff one of these days. I'll admit I haven't been scouring the promo stuff and leaks like I usually do. Wonder if her res shred stacks with Nilou's C2, probably not.

Interesting, I'll have to google it. It's such a shame that after the midpoint of that quest, that giant bubble in the lake is calm. I loved the way that whole area looked when it was pulsing out of control.

I'm really interested in how Nefer's going to work. Supposedly her kit "eats" cores. It'd be cool if that put her into a powered up mode or activated a skill or something.

Oh also, they announced yesterday that they're nerfing the 'self' damage of Dendro cores, down to 2% from 5%. Not huge, but welcome.

I was also reading some stuff earlier, and did you guys know they made a Hollow Knight ripoff mini-web game back in Inazuma? You can still play it if you click Guest instead of logging in. It's hard.

*edit*

Nefer official splash art. I think she's gonna be a personal favorite of mine, for sure. Hope she's an on-field character instead of an off field skill bot.

Welp, just tried the new Imaginarium Theater reset on normal, but no luck since I don't have enough lvl 60+ units with the right elements. :/ Had to settle for clearing it on easy.

It's definitely a veteran endgame mode from a number of aspects, so doing what you can for now is the right move instead of ruining the fun by trying to eke out enough characters for higher levels. It'll come naturally with time.

So I'm still going through Fontaine stuff, this time I finally finished the Sea of a Bygone Era area. The quest itself and the area are visually stunning, maybe even the best looking areas in the game, but the story wasn't as strong as the Narzissenkreuz story IMO. Also no cool major reward at the end, you don't even get to keep the cat or the special harp. I think that's it for 'major' world quests that I was behind in Fontaine, now I have a handful of the shorter ones and I'm averaging about 80% exploration for every region, only have 100% on 2 of them. More stuff to grind out. I gotta admit though, I am having quite a good time doing these. I think my burnout is cured and I actually look forward to playing Genshin again instead of logging in/doing dailies/doing limited time even/log out.

Also saw that I have a handful of Chenyu Vale quests I never finished, so I'll take care of those before I focus on Natlan. I'm glad I waited until they improved the treasure compass to start 100%'ing these areas. The old way, using a guide/map or just manually looking around would take forever.

Nefer model. Reminds me of Yelan's dress, but less Fontainian looking. I'm pretty hyped for her, hope her kit is good.

Yeah I'm a bit skeptical about all this. Blooms were already gonna do some kind of (AoE) damage, so withholding that from the player in favor of some improved charged attacks (supposedly) doesn't sound that great. Those attacks need to be buffed to an insane degree to make that worth it, in my mind.

I'm also really disappointed she's another catalyst. Her sig weapon looks really good, but I desperately wanted her to be polearm. I still have a jade spear lying around, and there's no good F2P catalysts to equip her with. Meh.

I kinda liked that this playstyle had some downsides, but I guess it makes sense to reduce that since none of the other teams suffer from something similar.

I don't remember this at all. It looks pretty good.

Saw this collab tease with Among Us yesterday. Now sure how legit it is, but the official Genshin account quote tweeted it. Maybe it will be one of the games you'll be able to play in the UGC mode they're releasing next patch?

I'll at least give them the benefit of the doubt and see how she plays before deciding. Most likely going to roll her regardless though.

The only "downside" was that you had to bring a healer or a shielder on the team, and they have plenty of hydro and dendro healers. I didn't mind the self damage, but it's not like it really mattered at the end of the day.

I can't play platformers with M+KB. I could manually map a controller, but eh, I have enough to play right now. But yea I also don't remember that at all during Inazuma.

I've got 4 areas at 100% (false) in Fontaine now, and somehow I keep finding more quests. I'm guessing that completing those world quests triggered the unlock of more of the little side/follow up quests. It was nice to see Nacker finally get whats coming, but it was kinda anti-climactic.

Any of you guys know how to either open this gate or get behind it to get those boxes in the water? I looked for a way to drop down into it and a way to swim under and rise up in there, but no luck either way. Is it some weird exit from Meropide?

Sure, it won't be enough to keep me from pulling.

It wasn't much bat at least it's something. I think it'd be fun if those various teams had more up- and downsides for various situations. That way you'd actually have a reason to use the entire roster.

Yeah it doesn't play great on PC. I wonder if I missed out on primos back then.

I'm sorry man, it's been such a long time since I did any of that stuff. I hardly remember anything from Fontaine.

No worries, it ended up shitting you out there at the end of the 7 green ore forging quest line. I have no idea how we ended up all the way back there, but underwater tunnels, I guess.

If I'm remembering right, you should get into there towards the beginning of the main quest for the floating water cubes.

Fontaine done. All Oculi, all shrines, local legends, unmarked quests that I know of (treasure maps, etc), 100% all around.

Overall thoughts:
  • Region was better than I originally evaluated it. Some nice quests, really great variety of environments and settings, the underwater stuff remained fun throughout and I didn't get tired of it.
  • Really jaw dropping vistas. Genshin may not be the best technical game as far as graphics and features, but the art style more than makes up for it. Kinda crazy that some of the stuff you can only experience a single time during quests, no reruns etc, just gotta YouTube it if you want to see it again I guess.
  • Most of the Oculi I missed during regular exploration were the ones high in the mountains that don't appear on your map until you get above a certain elevation. I hope they stop doing that, it means you won't find them organically and it's basically just Oculi Stone (the tool to find them) bait.
  • Chasca/Mualani are instrumental in exploration during quests/finding chests and stuff. Chasca specifically can just activate her flying gun and rub up against any slanted mountain/wall and it will climb like 10x as fast with zero stamina usage. Frankly I'm surprised HoYo allowed that to happen, it almost feels like an exploit it's so good.
  • Melusine remain the most underutilized and interesting non-human race in Genshin. Their innocence combined with their alien viewpoint as non-humans made for some really sad/touching stories. They could have really ripped at the players' heart strings with those Nadia or Pahsiv quests, but they chose not to. If I were the writers, I'd have dialed the tragedy up to 11.
  • Missed opportunity to have a single or a small handful of giant dangerous enemies swimming around the big underwater areas that attack on sight and are very difficult if not impossible to kill. Harder and no gimmicks like the underwater local legends, but actually huge and imposing. It could have created such a cool and tense atmosphere while swimming around. Even if it was just locked to one area so it doesn't stress everybody out constantly.
  • Still my least favorite Archon quest and main story chapters. Especially the bullshit Arlecchino quest, considering how much I like her character outside of that quest.
On to Chenyu Vale. I'm in the high 90s on those areas, so I don't anticipate it will take very long.

Never played Among Us, but that's peak COVID collab pairing.

Anyways, done with Chenyu.
Qd86W6rrMYhAfahy.jpg

This took me longer than I thought. There were lots of quests available that I missed or something, and the bottom left area was tough to 100%. The Treasure Compass was glitched or something because it wouldn't find chests that I could see like 50 yards ahead, and it would prioritize those little stone piles with 10k mora over chests and stuff. Dunno what that's about. Anyways, done for today, going to start Natlan cleanup later in the week. I have a LOT of unfinished quests there and a ton of exploration I need to do there, but I'm looking forward to it. The world quests that I've done in Natlan were all great so far.

Nefer's full kit was posted here.

Looks like those rumors were true. When she uses her skill, she sucks up all blooms and powers up her charged attack. She also prevents any blooms from happening for 15 secs after, converting them into fuel for her Elemental Burst damage.

There's also an update on the lvl 100 thing. It's not nearly as a big a deal as people made it out to be. lvl 95 is around 8% more damage and lvl 100 16%. The 40% reaction damage people speculated on seems completely false. So it is more in line with triple crowning your fave character for a modest damage boost. As expected.

Also Jahoda is an Anemo character.

The compass locking onto the mora chests is a recent "upgrade" 1-2 patches ago I think.

But are you getting AAAALLLLLLLL of the chests? Can you withstand the thought of chests still out there in the wild? (me who got every single non-mora chest since 4.0)

The game has some great visuals but they need to solve the one and done issue with their map. Once you do all the things in a region, there's no reason to ever go back outside of farming enemy drops.

Teapots mains are something else.

Teapot mains are playing a different game than me.

I don't hate the sound of it. Wonder if her best setup is hyperbloom or just regular bloom teams. Hyperbloom would probably shoot the cores that she needs for her kit, so probably Bloom only, but having Electro for Spread reactions would really beef up her damage. I'm looking forward to experimenting with her. Looks like I can safely stop at C0 too, her first few constellations are damage boosts instead of hiding important mechanics behind a constellation, so I can at least try her for a while first to see if I like the gameplay style to roll for constellations.

Eh, it's too early to say for sure for level 100 ramifications We need the spreadsheeters to get their hands on it, not just beta leakers (who usually suck at the game). Anybody can do the math for base stat increases, but Genshin's damage formula has the level difference as a multiplier and whatever reaction bonuses they get. It's not like there's a burning rush to get your team to level 100, so I'm waiting until it's out and people have time to mess with it.

Plus I always hoard consumables like that, I'll probably get choice paralysis and not end up using them.

Yea I don't have problems with them pointing to the Mora chests, as they do count towards completion % a little. I just think it's glitched out, at least in Chenyu. Like it would point to the Mora chest, then I'd go collect it, and there was a treasure chest visible, not that far away, and when I used the compass again, it didn't find it or highlight anything.
But are you getting AAAALLLLLLLL of the chests?
Of course not. I have no patience to use guides and maps and stuff full time.

I bet even you don't have 100% of the chests. Did you get that REALLY hidden one in the first domain in Mondstadt?
The game has some great visuals but they need to solve the one and done issue with their map. Once you do all the things in a region, there's no reason to ever go back outside of farming enemy drops.
I don't mind a region being "cleared" and not needing to go back so much, but I wish you could watch in-game sequences and scenes from the Archive or something. I wanna watch the swimming with the whale along the aqueduct and Dominus scenes again, but you just flat can't. I do wish they'd let us revert some of the changes we made from quests, on a toggle. Like turn that homing lightning back on in Inazuma, the fog on Tsurumi Island, The big erratic water bubble in Fontaine, etc.

Well, here's here animations:

The charged attack is missing here, but it's on twitter:

I like the kicking and that her spirits attack too, but I was hoping she'd have more range. Again, I don't see how some juiced up melee attacks can make up for 15+ secs of no bloom damage. Maybe she's supposed to be single target only and/or more likely I'm missing something.

I guess so. It's quite complex, probably too complicated to dissect before it's even in the game. Still, I think this new info is a good sign.

Oh also, I was going to do an update post, but honestly this video is better than anything I'd copy/paste from HoYo's promotion kit.

A few highlights that slipped by me in other 6.0 promo stuff:
  • Up to 20 total preset team slots
  • You can pick regional materials from the new BP, so it'll be easier to build new characters in regions you haven't explored much, particularly for new players.
  • You can instantly claim the Test Run rewards if you already own the character, you don't have to do Bennett's trial for the 238947928th time for your weeds and Mora.
  • Columbina will be giving new characters buffs as a power-up mechanic from a menu as you find the regional currency in chests and stuff. Think of something like Fontaine's fountain but it also gives you buffs.
  • You can go to the Narukami shrine and pick a character a day to go hang out with, similar to ZZZ's dating system, looks like.
  • Bounties are picked up at Katheryne and give avatar frames and other rewards. The fights are now goal based (do Dendro reactions 6x, don't get hit, etc)
  • The verdant dew is a new regional mechanic, not tied to any particular character's kit. It's a little bar with 3 moons that you fill up by doing lunar reactions and then depending on the character, they have a way to use the bar to power up your attacks or other effects. Think of it as Nod Krai Nightsoul.

Well, here's here animations:
Damn those animations are amazing. At this point I am rolling her even if she heals the enemies. It's like Heizou Pro Max, but Dendro and egyptian catgirl. Right in my strike zone.

Though I never thought I'd be saying this, I wish she had stockings or thigh highs or something. Her legs look too bare and under-designed compared to her top half.

Aesthetically i think she looks great, her outfit is really nice, but her moves are just kinda kicks with green flourishes. I really hate to be that guy but damn, WuWa has really set the bar much higher with unique animations and effects for the characters attacks. Genshin seems really behind.

I never said I had 100% of the chests in Teyvat, just the ones released in 4.0+

I've tried the other regions but not gotten true 100% like 4.0+. Got them down to under 20 or so though I think. Hard to say since some earlier chests were available 1 time and still go towards counts.

The whole lunar mechanism just seems like a way to drive fomo so people pull for the new characters.

And ya I get that 6.0 is happening, but there always something happening. I'll be around for freebies like I said but I'm just past caring that much anymore.

Yeah it's been getting exhausting lately with how shameless they're getting at wanting to pull new units. It's been imo bad with Natlan and new end-game that really pushes some comps, but it may get worse.

I think it's the first instance where the free unit doesn't utilize the new region's 'mechanic' (in this case, Lunar reactions) - hoyo is going all in on fomo.

I saw some image I think in gamefaqs where one of the upcoming bosses will only take lunar based damage…

Shit I just realized that today is 6.0 release date. I thought I had another week to catch up on Natlan stuff lol. Oh well, not like it's going anywhere. Hopefully I win the 50/50 on Lauma.

Found it, I guess things could change tho

I'm pretty sure old leaks said that Aino enables "lunar" reactions just by being in the team, despite not being able to trigger the reactions herself. And if you have 2 Nod Krai characters, it powers it up etc.

HoYo is money grabby sometimes, but they've never made a mechanic that F2P don't have access to in some fashion, not sure they'd start now. We'll find out in some hours I guess.

looks like UGC will have its own currency and top up store, huuuuh
I honestly wish it was it's own app so I didn't have to download the assets.

2 new primo codes:
NODKRAISP0909
EPIC2025

Sorry about the non linked versions, I'm on mobile and getting the codes from HoYoLab, so the format was funky

Interesting, they shifted the maintenance schedule. Usually it's done at 7 PST, but this one is over at 8.

Anyways, fuck Genshin Impact, I quit this game.

Now I'm gonna play Song of the Welkin Moon.

Looks like Playstation is finally getting a new game background.

Started at 0 on 50/50...

Got Lauma at 53 winning 50/50.

Got the lamp at 67 pulls and then the looking glass the literal next pull.

Now to figure out if I want to use her... I think I got the order wrong...

I apparently have 12 of the level 100 material. How'd everyone else do?

Edit: got Qiqi on my 2nd account... Not enough primos to go on...

Just got the best luck ever. Got Lauma with my free pulls then got her weapon on first 10 pull. This is the first time I have won the 25/75 for weapon and it went super in the opposite direction. Making up for one of the losses finally lol.

Edit: Woooaaaahhh! So due to being way more lucky than expected and how her C1 is incredibly powerful, boosting all her reactions plus making her a healer, I went for that. Not only did I get it, but then also Kequing in the same 10-pull. So now I can keep a guarantee for Durin (who will be the best for my C2R1 Mualani).

I was thinking of spending the rest of my saved pulls seeing about getting Nilou since she's apparently really good for Lauma but it's all going to Durin now. This also makes Kequing C3 so if I put the free stella fortunas towards her I'll exceed C6 and get my first step toward lvl100 for someone.

I don't really want Lauma but is she "required" for Nefer?

Edit-

Ineffa- welcome to Nod Krai.

Got C1 Lauma in 150 pulls. Lost my first pull to Keqing, but I already had some pity built. Then full soft pity to Lauma, got her C1 in 20 after that. Her weapon looks really good for her but I have an extra Nahida lamp I can use on her, so I'm probably skipping it.

As for masterless Fortuna...

Guess I lost more 50/50s than I care to remember...

*edit*

Lauma's charge attack transformation is great. I daresay it powercreeps most other ground traversal due to how long you can use it. C6 Mavuika is probably still the best overall, but running as a deer is straight up majestic.
