Genuine question: What is white culture?

Doesn't seem correct to me to call it white culture, more like... American culture, kind of like you'd say Italian culture and then give specific names to smaller cultures that exist in Italy but are not dominant, like... welp, i don't know anything about Italian cultures.

Hispanic or at least partially Arabic.

Huh. You mean by US standards?

Races are arbitrary buckets so we are essentially arguing the same thing from different cultural standpoints. White isn't a race if it includes Gaelic, Nordic, Aryan, Semitic, Mediterranean etc people as identical.

Define who's white and who isn't then. This is getting ridiculous.

White culture is what the western world considers default, which is why you can hardly notice it. It's the differences TO white culture that characterizes black / african / asian / hispanic etc. culture.

It's this:

Majority of white people don't give a shit about us football and baseball. They follow proper football like the rest of the planet (except the countries that are into cricket)

i guess nobody I know who was born in and grew up in another nation actually uses "white" in this context. in all non-internet conversations, "white people" implies "american white people that've mostly moved away from the culture of their ancestors and may not remember their ancestry at all." so i carried that definition over here.

In terms of the US, claiming all good things about western culture as a collective AND rejecting all the bad things as before your time or not your people.

What?
The world doesn't stop at the US of A.

Belgian Flemish people already considers themselves to have a totally different culture and mindset from the Belgian french people.
A Corsican has nearly zero common culture with an Alsacian.
Bayern is made fund by the rest of Germany.
There is no default white culture.
Except for Yankee maybe.

People conflating "white" with "American".

White is a pretty loaded term globally. I think being more specific is better for discourse. Culturally I imagine White Americans, Icelanders, and the French are all pretty different.

Shit even saying white Americans is too loaded, my family in Kentucky culturally have almost nothing in common with my family in California.

White culture? I guess it started with greek/Latin culture where the foundations of our language begat.

Then i guess it goes on from there to the major philosophers, romance poets, Christianity/Catholicism. The artists also.

I'm pretty sure it's anything with European heritage?

Waldorf salads and potato salad, and all that mayo shit.

Kidding, that's just fat people shit. Clean white people don't eat that barf

Perogies and Sauerkraut?

I'm a white guy and have no idea what white culture is. I think it means 'shit Americans like, but without any minorities around while I do it'

Culture is not defined by race. I'm black. My culture is very different from many cultures of African Americans. Culture is more tied to nationality or region. My culture is defined in part by my family's origins and the region I was brought up.

You are mixing up national culture with the culture nurture that happens when a minority group has to redefine it's identity against the status quo.
I'm not saying there is a default white culture. I'm saying that if the dominant culture happens to be white, it's the differences to this culture that sets asian, black or other minority cultures apart.

And i'm not even talking about the US. I live in the Netherlands, as a part dutch, part afro american man.

That's true.
I'm sure any African American has more "white culture " than any European whatever is skin color except maybe the British.

White Culture is a term used by racist to try to make it sound like they aren't talking about race. It's a hilarious concept really if you try to break it down but it can also be insidious as it tries to lump every white person into a cultural bloc in an attempt to get other white people to agree with whatever bullshit they are saying.

Honestly the advent of DNA testing pokes some real holes in the idea of whiteness.

You just know these guys championing their white "purity" could well be part Mexican or African or Jewish. Turns out skin colour is even that big of a deal as far as genetic code is concerned.

To be honest, nothing positive comes to mind when I think about "white culture" in the U.S. Nonwhites on this continent have casually been considered human beings for only 52 years, so "white culture" in the US carries a lot of baggage for me. Whites' actual ethnicities should be celebrated and the US concept of white as a social caste should be rejected at all costs. With my white friends and family, I ask them about their specific ethnicity, customs, celebrations and backgrounds. I would love it if whites held on to their European roots and not buy in to the U.S.' casteness.
They're the Megaman of culture. They'll defeat you, take your culture, and use it to defeat others. They also may use a dog to assist themselves in doing so.
Lmao my goodness.

Are we talking white americans or white europeans? Because there's lots of diversty in culture and traditions in Scandinavia, Germany, Belgium, Netherlands, France etc

It's a stupid way of labeling a culture by colour forgetting that before black race and white race we have the human race, and humans don't stand still in a place for long and we tend to mingle.

If what some folks here perceive as white culture is the traditions from the Irish, English, Germans, Italians, etc that crossed the Atlantic ocean to settle in America...Well, what you perceive as black culture is nothing more than a mix between several Africans and carbiean cultures that ended gaining its own identity.

Colonization
The Mongols, the mesopotamians, the Egyptians...So many white folks.

Wait so we consider Spaniards and Portuguese white now?
See why it's stupid to label a culture of black and white? Portugal and Spain are a pot of races that settled in the Iberian peninsula, if we are to classified these countries by colour we can say that they are predominantly white but if you go to...Say, Algarve in Portugal and met some of the locals you would think that you are in an Arabic country.

Honestly, the more I think about the question and the OP, the more annoyed I get. Asking what British culture, or German culture are would result in informative and enlightening answers. Broadening the question to encompass all of "White" is a way to eliminate the unique elements, which is exactly what culture is. And all that is left is the oppression, racism and stereotypes, which while important(well not the last one), and should never be ignored, but is also a basic element of humanity.

In short, the question is posed so the only answers can be "None at all!" and "Racism!", and makes it a very dull question indeed. And reducing it to a region, like I myself was just guilty of, ignores all the people of color that live there and identify with that culture.

I mean, these posts are on point. These are major cultural icons but they're clearly white culture.
Do white people in Russia love Seinfeld?

Western Philosophy, science and classical music are all white.

Industrialization is arguably white.

I mean the renaissance and enlightment are white/european achievments.

As a non-white person, I am compelled to admit that.

Edit : Christianity too.

American.

Don't tie the rest of us in with that shit please.

yeah op came back and specified white american in a later post. like "do these alt-right people who claim to be defending white culture have some concepts of white culture in mind?" and the answer of course is no because the core ideology of the alt-right movement is a reactionary temper tantrum.
