Getting a Wii U, Accessories Abundance

I plan on getting the Zelda bundle today and Lego Marvel Super Heroes to play with my daughter. I know it comes with the Gamepad. What else am I going to need? Will one Wii U Pro Controller suffice for both of us to play LMSH? Do I need a Wii Remote Plus or Nunchuk?

Don't know about Lego Marvel but Lego Batman didn't support the WiiU Classic Controller and needed a Wiimote/Nunchuck setup for multi-player - hated it. In general you better have some Wiimotes ready for your WiiU.

Depends on if you like playing the party type games Wii has to offer. Hopefully if you still have your Wii, then you'll have your Wiimotes too. Otherwise, the pro controller is the only thing I'd recommend getting as a separate accessory (if it's just the two of you playing).

Unfortunately, I do not have any Wiimotes. I'd like to go with the Pro and pick up Wiimotes later if needed. I'm guessing the back of the box of LMSH may tell me if a Pro Controller will work. I'm hoping so as I'm not a fan of turning the Wiimote sideways to use as a controller.

you dont really need anything else than a wii U gamepad

however if you want to play wii games or certain minigames in say wii party u, wii fit u or Nintendoland or multiplayer in NSMBU (which is highly recommended) you will want some additional wii motes.

The pro controller? I dont know what the point of that thing is but not every wiiu game supports it and if you have the gamepad and a few wii motes you dont need it.

a few wiimote bundles

Look on the back of game cases for controller symbols, they'll let you know which controllers are supported. The only exception as far as I know is NSMBU which added Pro Controller functionality through a patch.

Generally, its a good idea to have a couple of Wiimote + nunchuks and maybe a pro controller on hand because the majority of Wii U games have multiplayer.

Depends on what games you want. there are a ton of extra controllers/etc. But you won't need a lot of them. Like the Wii U Pro Controller, is nice. But not really needed. Only really needed if you want to play multiplayer games with others and your friends don't want to go the wiimote route.

Anyways, I recommend getting at least 1 or 2 Wiimote Pluses and an extra nunchuck. That should really be enough

My question is more specifically related to Lego Marvel Superheroes. I want to play that with my daughter, one of us will use the Gamepad, but what for the other person? I tried looking for a pic of the back of the box to see if the Pro would work. I guess I may have to wait until I get to the store.

Definitely go for the pro controller. Maybe consider getting Wii Party U and/or Mario & Sonic Olympics. Both come with Wiimote + iirc.

Though with Lego Marvel, some reported problems with the Pro controller. I own the game and controller, but haven't tried and I'm on my way to work.

But in general when it comes to Wii U multiplayer you'll need a Wii Remote with Motion Plus at least.

If you can buy a Wii Remote (with M+) and Nunchuck do it and an additional one along a Pro later.

Wii Party U is a great option to play with your daughter and while it includes a Wii Remote; you'll need another one to play with her since for multiplayer each one needs a remote. (though some games can be played with the gamepad)

According to someone on GameFAQs, it's supported, but take that with a grain of salt...

Okay, so if I get the Wii Party U bundle, I'll have to get a second Wiimote for both of us to play. It looks like I'll have to get that, an extra Wiimote, a Nunchuk (or two?), and a Pro Controller. My head just exploded.

you really dont need a pro controller.

consider getting some of the wiimote plus bundles (spansmasher, zelda skyward sword, wii party u, wii party u, mario and sonic sochi, wii play motion)

some of them are available dirt cheap depending on where you live.

nunchucks? not necessary if you dont want to use wii mote+ nunchuck set up for single player games.

If you end up needing a Wii Remote +, get Wii U Party as it's just $10 more than a remote and is a full game.

If he doesn't get a pro controller, he'll need one nunchuck for the Lego games, I would think.

Hehe...
Basically this:
-Wii U Zelda bundle
-Lego Marvel Superheroes
-Wii Party U
-Wii Remote with Motion Plus
-Wii Nunchuck

Optional:
-Wii Nunchuck (a second one)
-Wii U Pro Controller

Look for deals too. Best Buy had U Pro controllers in white for under $20 and black ones for$40. MSRP is $50.

Toys R Us had a deal which by buying two $60 games you got a $40 giftcard...but I think that ended today.

with nunchucks i meant two.. yeah its probably better to get at least one

so my recommendation

wiimote + nunchuk and an additional wiimote if you want to have more than two players

also consider getting lego city undercover

that game is really great.

Disney Infinity is in the process of getting WiiU Pro Controller & Wii Classic Controller support patched in as well!

that game is really great.

be aware that this doesn't have any two player modes! (which it makes up for by being awesome)

Thanks for the breakdown. I'm about to head out, I'll post a pic of my haul when I get back later.

check the comments. the pro controller is not supported. you'll need nunchuk + wiimote.
(apparently it does support it in spite of not being shown on the back of teh box)

I'd suggest grabbing Wii Party U

Why wouldnt marvel support the pro controller, classic controller I sort of understand, but not the pro one?

That's bullshit

I looked on the eshop and it says

Wii U Gamepad
Wii U Pro Controller
Wii Remote Plus + Nunchuck
Wii Remote + Nunchuck

LEGO Marvel Superheroes plays great with the Wii U Pro Controller if you are still wondering about that. It is definitely the preferred controller for second player amongst people I have encountered.

I also recommend picking up another Wii Remote Plus, but I would wait. Mario and Sonic at the Sochi Olympic Games should be a good opportunity to get one for cheap, or you could wait for those special Mario and Luigi editions to come out. I do not recommend Wii Party U, as I really found it to be an abysmal game, and only worth it if you absolutely need the controller.

Weird that it's not on the back of the box then. At least someone cleared it up finally :D

There's a coupon for TRU out there for $15 off any game not on sale that's 59.99 or more than runs til 2/1/2014. Also one for $10 off a game not on sale that's $39.99 that runs the same length. I searched CAG for them but couldn't find them. The store I go to had a stack of both

SKN for the $59.99 coupon is 963842

nice! have fun!

i really recommend nintendoland (i think its available for pretty cheap now) for further family multiplayer goodness but you should be fine with the current set up.

I cannot disagree more, sir. game is a fantastic mario party type deal with a bunch of table top games that sweaten the deal.

So whats up with that wii mote plus and nunchuck? Its only being sold sepparatly yet you need both? Why isn't it in a single package? Also it absurdly expensive (it seems to me). Like 40 euro's for the wii mote and 20 euro's for the nunchuck. Is this normal?

Nunchucks and Wii remotes always been sold seperately.

That's not a valid argument. Whats the reason behind it? It makes far more sense to make a bundle.

$$$

Nintendo would argue that because different accessories such as a wii pro controller can be plugged in, you need to be able to plug it in separately.

Since you've got a classic controller I really recommend you to get Xenoblade Chronicles if you like RPGs. If you are in Europe you still can find it new at normal retail price.

Enjoy your new toy!

@Kosh : Nice purchase!

Is it only rare in the US? I saw it last week in my local store for £9.99GBP, I already have SS but tempted just for the Wiimote plus.

Seriously? Some local store is selling the complete bundle, game, cd, golden wiimoteplus, for £9.99GBP???????? Yes, VERY rare. Buy now! Sell, make nice profit. (or keep as it is a nice wiimote plus too).

I actually bought 2 at launch. Mainly went through Amazon, but since Sunday launch, I got impatient and just went to Target and got myself a copy. Later sold the Amazon version on eBay for like $115 or so (I think it cost me $75?)

May I recommend The Wonderful 101, Pikmin 3, Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, New Super Mario Bros. U, & ZombiU?

You may. I've heard those are good and plan on looking into them in the future, but I just blew my wad for a while on the above pictured.

This is a joke? You must be kidding especially when he wants to play with his daughter. So glad you did not listen to this guy.
