Is anyone else playing this??

I have never been more tempted to buy a game that I just knew would burn me. So I actually listened to that little voice in my head and rented this instead.

And low and behold it's actually a pretty decent game.

Well let me rephrase that. It's a pretty good "bad" game. There really isn't anything going on in this game that is done better here than in other games. But it's good enough that I keep pluggin away at it. I really like the soundtrack and the art that is used. The fighting engine is a little broken at times and the platforming is decent but the camera can get a bit hung up. But all and all it's a pretty decent game.

So far I'm thinking I would be giving this game a 6.5 or a 7. Nothing huge but nothing horrible.

Best way I can describe how the game plays is: Prince of Persia with JSRF graffiti skills and some Warriors style fighting.

I'd say it's more Tomb Raider than Prince of Persia. The key trait of PoP was fluid acrobatic abilities. In Getting Up, the moves are more deliberate and one at a time ala Tomb Raider.

I really wish combat weren't such a big part of the game. I hate how many asses you have to kick just to get a painting up.

Also, I think it's uncool that Trane "goes over" other paintings. In the graffiti scene that's bad news. Cope 2, one of the legendary artists you meet along the way even tells you as much.

I actually really liked the game. It has its fundamental issues, but stepping back and looking at the whole picture, it's really unlike anything else I've ever played. I'm all for this alternative urban themed stuff. It takes the taste of GANGSTARIZED pap like Def Jam out of my mouth.

I hope Ecko continues to make games with The Collective, he's got a nice style.

Agreed. I wish they'd take it a step further next time. Imagine an online game where you explore a city and create your own art.

RE the style. The opening cut scene is pretty fantastic. I wish the game held that tone throughout.

Indeed. I liked the CG cutscenes a lot. They were chaotic at times, but had very interesting direction.

I tried getting into the game today, but was met with long ass load times

That turned me off of the game, but, i still wanna play some of it tonight and tommrow

Rented it through gamefly and decided to keep it.

I have NO idea why I liked it. But I did. Maybe thats what you guys are expereince. Its hard to describe why you even like it, but you DO.

Yeah, pretty much. I mean, there's no one particular aspect that makes it awesome, but when I finished playing the game, I felt pleasant about the entire experience. In all areas it is "above average," but there's something else more innate to the game that boosts it into "keeper" realm.

I think it's the care that went into the game. With control refinements, they could have a great series on their hands.

Yeah I guess it can be compared to Tomb Raider platforming a bit too. I was just thinking Prince of Persia because there are so many moves that exactly like PoP. Jumping from columns and such.

I'm glad there are some other people that have similar feelings about this game.

I can't really tell you one feature that makes me like this game. But I know I like it.

How long did it take you guys to finish this off? I just finished a boss battle with the "right hand man" and some dogs. I'm curious how much game I have left.

I agree the care and effort that has been put into this game give it so much soul. It's put together so well. And the cutscenes are awesome.

You're somewhere near half-way. Check out the dots on the subway map -- that's how many areas there are.

Didn't seem that I was anywhere near halfway from the look at the dots. But I was talking time wise.
Most levels in games get longer in the later levels etc...

Thanks though. I guess there is no point in buying this if I'm that far into it though.

My apologies to The Collective and Marc Echo. I should have just bought this.

The pace of the game seems to pick up toward the end.
