Ghostbusters Trailer 2

Mmm. I feel like it's going to be cool whenever I see "ghostbusting" in the trailer, then the bubble bursts whenever a "joke" appears.

But hey, why worry? a) By now I'm pretty much used to terrible remakes/reboots and b) crap movies are a great occasion for lots of booze and friends.

I just hope this thread isn't going to devolve into people defending Robocop 3 like in the other thread.

There was even someone who thought Robocop 3 was better than the original. Think about that.

Wait, what?

Now that is offensive.

Also if there is really a queef joke in this... smh. That is precisely the kind of humour that fits in with Bridesmaids, not Ghostbusters.

A lot better than the first trailer that's for sure. I actually snickered during the trailer at the part with the selfie stick. But:

Don't know if this is a race thing or a lady thing. But I'm mad as hell!

Just wow. That is a line that will not help the controversy surrounding this film.

Who the hell crowd surfs with an unlicensed nuclear accelerator on their backs anyways?
Even if it doesn't explode that's gotta hurt for the crowd people.

Good trailer. Better than the first. No way this movie can be as bad as the second one.

that joke is addressing the controversy regarding this film, its fucking great

Oh so it was obvious huh?

To your points,
1.) McKinnon looks to fill the roll of Ramis being the "science nerd" as it shows her developing a trap which correct me if I'm wrong, but Egon worked on containment within the first movie. Hmm, interesting.
2.) Correct, however, Wiig is assumed to the shoe in replacement for him even tho his stick was "junk" science. The whole "Dr." tag was also very loosely based on the fact that he had his Ph.D; I'm guessing Wiig (as the trailers has shown) gets the social science part of it but has some short comings (aka as Peter) which is nicely filled in from the rest of the cast.
3.) McCarthy being Stantz is reduction to the finest as Ray and Ego developed the tool set that they used-- seems to be the same thing here.
4.) Jones and Hudson being African American, again, seems overly simplified way of a shout out to the former cast.

Anyways, still is a hot mess.

One is a coincidence, two is a pattern. McKinnon's character is the smartest, therefore she develops the traps. That's the beginning and the end of her connection to Egon. Otherwise, not only does she lack similarity to him, she actively has a cavalcade of dissimilarities. In a lot of ways she's more similar to Akyroyd.

As for Jones and Hudson, again, you can't simply say "black character, therefore genderswap." It essentially suggests that GB can't have a black character without being accused of genderswapping. Shit, from what I've seen, Jones' character is why people even got the idea to claim genderswapping, which then lead to people ignoring any differences between the two films' casts.

Better than the first, but I rolled my eyes when the 'is this a race thing, or a female thing" line showed up.

Yeah I agree, I rolled my eyes at that point.

Almost as if this was thrown in as a sub text for the hate the move is getting.

I have to admit I will still go and watch it though, then decided if it's a good Ghostbusters film or not.

Better than the last trailer but thats not saying much. None of the jokes are any good. I am biased though because I can't stand any of Feig's films.

you guys are taking the crowd surfing joke way too seriously. it's the character's immediate reaction and it works well enough. it doesn't have to be 120% logical.

The visual comedy was doing more for me than the writing and the callbacks (mass hysteria) seem more destracting than anything else, but the visuals and special effects look terrific.

I'm in.

I'm slowly realizing I'd have preferred Jason Moore to direct this than Feig if the all female reboot has to exist. Much prefer Pitch Perfect and Sisters to any movie Feig has done.

I'd have taken an Easy A sequel with Emma Stone joning the Ghostbusters to pay for college instead of this.

It isn't really funny though, and at least in the trailer, it doesn't do a very good job of setting it up as a reaction in the heat of the moment

Addressing it? You mean enforcing the belief that if you don't like soemthiing being forced upon you that you never asked for then you are somehow a racist or a sexist?

If the crowd surf joke is a political statement it's a failed one and if anything is itself racist. Like someone else has pointed out, it clearly isn't a lady thing as someone caught Melissa before so it's a race thing? Right?

It's just cheap low ball humour. Nothing wrong with having a chuckle at it, but it's precisely why I fear Feig should just have made Bridesmaids 2 and not Ghostbridesmaids.

If the whole movie is packed with it and the potential queef joke... yeah. Not saying I can't laugh at it, I found Bridesmaids hilarious, it's just not what I expected from Ghostbusters.

...Force? Cmon, nothing is being forced upon anyone.

The Reddit leak was the first one to talk about a green dragon ghost at a rock concert. It was before the international trailer.

I think also talked about possessed parade balloons.
I believe it also talked about Hemsworth getting possessed and the ghost amplification machine. Looks like that post was deleted though and I'm on mobile so I can't easily find a copy of it.

I mean, people shout at others for saying "They aren't respecting the originals" but it's the truth, this movie would not exist if it were not for the original movies, Feig wouldn't be getting paid millions if it were not for the originals so giving them the finger is kind of disrespectful.

JJ Abrams respected the source material with his Star Wars movie, this movie does not respect the source material whatsoever imo.

It has basically gone from a supernatural movie with subtle comedy to a full on slapstick parody full of stereotypes which I am finding hard to digest if I am honest, also I feel like Feig has basically taken this movie on to try and prove some sort of socio-political point (which is really falling flat because if you really wanted to make a point about equality you would have two women and two men as the ghostbusters and not have a token black character and an idiot of a man acting as eye candy) and I think that's the problem he wants to make a point rather than because he wants to make a great Ghostbusters movie.

The fact that Hemsworth is cast as such an idiot proves that point, let's think about this for a second, he isn't possessed from the beginning which means he is literally just an idiot, yet he is hired as a Secretary for a business and puts the business phone in a fishtank and repeatedly makes idiotic remarks that go beyond stupid, I could understand that if this was marketed as a full on parody movie aka Scary Movie but it isn't so that kind of stupidity is nonsensical and screams of Feig just wanting to make a man look stupid "because he can"

Anyway, ignoring the possible sexism, racism and other numerous issues with his movie I still think it may end up being saved by the cast who are actually very funny (as this trailer shows more than the other ones released.)

Still I just think it's a real disappointment quite frankly, in all reality it doesnt matter if it's four men, four women, four aliens, four whatever, respect the source material, build on it, have witty coherent writing and less shitty CG and this movie would be worthy as a modern day revisit.

As it stands it looks anything but that, I am going to watch it and hope for the best and this trailer has made me feel somewhat better about it but honestly I just can't shake this feeling that all this movie is trying to accomplish is making a lot of money off a popular franchise and a director who wants to push a misguided agenda.

I agree, the blatant sexism on display here with the dumb male secretary is just plain awful. Many people will try to claim I am wrong and over thinking things here, but that's the vibe I am picking up here, a role reversal of female/male to make some sort of social point/comment on modern day society.

Almost like the film is a vehicle for this very message, but it's OK because it's not a woman.

I mean Jurrasic World got crucified for the sexism on display, but I bet this doesn't picked apart for the male sexism on display.

For the record, I am not a hater, I'll go watch the film and base my judgement on how well the movie does at being a Ghostbusters film.

Better than the previous one, but it looks so...tired I guess. It feels like it's the 8th sequel with the same crew and nobody gives a damn anymore. The fact that it's apeing the original so badly doesn;t help.

I agree, it's just poorly written humor and has an undertone of Feig's attitude towards the fans of the originals I think personally.

I still don't quite understand how Feig got the gig in the first place?

Money? No one else taking a punt? I mean the guy has every right to have a go at it, but I'm sure as he's now made aware daily it is an established franchise and not a new IP/addition to an IP he came up with. He'll for the most part be judged on the final product though.

Hemsworth's character is proactive, helpful, and really nice. Judging from the trailers, he also gets plenty of time to be good comic relief and have active agency in the story. It's hardly a flipping of situations, because a lot of the equivalent "sexy women" in films wouldn't get as much expansion beyond that role. Weaver for instance, while not unintelligent by any means, has little to do in the story. She gets the ball rolling, she is uninitiated and uninformed, she's a damsel-in-distress, she's a love interest, etc.

I was talking about the scene but the sentiment is clearly being echoed in the writing there.

"if you don't want this then you are a sexist or a racist"

Oh, I misread it as Feig forcing the movie upon you. Apologies.

The film depicting Hemsworth that way isn't sexist at all. There's no stereotype of Men being attractive, yet dumb and ditzy for the film to feed into. It's taking a female stereotype and applying it to a man to call attention to how ridiculous it is.

Does simply the act of a releasing a second trailer that is also not funny mean it should be liked?
No, but the amount of hate for no justifiable reason other than "your shitting on my childhood!" Is really getting tiresome.

Don't like the trailer? Fine, vote it down, but it seems a lot are voting down for that reason alone. The original still exists. It always will.

Haters can hate, I still want to see it ... And that's as a huge fan of the original. If it ends up as a bad film, well ... It would hardly be the first time, but if it entertains me, well that's good enough.

Wait, do you think 'dumb male secretary' is a sexist stereotype? Uhhh. What?
