Ghostbusters Trailer 2

The film depicting Hemsworth that way isn't sexist at all. There's no stereotype of Men being attractive, yet dumb and ditzy for the film to feed into. It's taking a female stereotype and applying it to a man to call attention to how ridiculous it is.

It also helps that being the dumbest motherfucker in the building is right in Hemsworth's wheelhouse comedy wise

This is a nice trailer. Does a better job than the first one on selling the film. And I felt the crowdsurf joke is lowkey referencing the reboot itself, which made me laugh.

I'll definitely watch it on cinemas.

I need to watch Cabin in the Woods again after this comment.

Not as bad a trailer as the last one, but still doesn't seem to be worth more than a RedBox rental at this point. Nothing in this trailer lands for me. Still in the same, bigger boat as last time. *waits for laughs*

It failed in a lot of places because it was more "On the nose" than the first and the writing admittedly wasn't as great but it certainly wasn't a bad movie by any stretch of the imagination.

I never understood why Murray disliked it either quite frankly.

Siskel and Ebert's original review of Ghostbusters II: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sKKQEtFB-gE

They gave it two thumbs down and called it cynical filmmaking that didn't try hard enough to do something original. The movie does have some interesting ideas in it and a few good moments, but they aren't wrong that Ghostbusters II recycles too much of the formula and the beats of the original film. Yeah, it is not as bad as people say it is, but still falls short of the original in so many respects.

I agree, it's just poorly written humor and has an undertone of Feig's attitude towards the fans of the originals I think personally.

I still don't quite understand how Feig got the gig in the first place?

I think between Spy and Other Space he showed the potential to do well with a project like this. Will he? We shall see, but I loved Spy and Other Space personally, and both combined gave me confidence in his suitability for Ghostbusters.

Leaning so hard on the references. Egon-stand-in talks about the apocalypse, the group tells the mayor about "mass hysteria," we see Slimer, giant white thing destroying the city...

Heck they even referenced a different movie entirely with "gonna need a bigger boat."

And...not a single thing that contradicts the leaked plot that sounded awful.

I don't think it's particularly offensive or sexist, but It feels misplaced to me. Why draw attention to a stereotype like that in Ghostbusters of all places?

Looks fine to me. Maybe that's the problem. It just looks fine.

I have a special love for the first film.

I am still going to go see it though and give it a chance.

It isn't really funny though, and at least in the trailer, it doesn't do a very good job of setting it up as a reaction in the heat of the moment

if enough people find it funny on the first watch then it works well enough. i didn't think it was set up well either but i still laughed at the reaction because i wasn't expecting it. so, it works well enough for me.

What makes McKinnon's character (I don't remember who made the apocalypse line, I'll assume it was her) an Egon stand-in? In most respects she's the mirror opposite of him.

Zoolander says hi.

That is what immediately came to mind myself, but Zoolander doesn't really work as an example because it is so intentionally absurd and ridiculous that it borders on parody. Plus, the story suggests that the low intelligence of male models is manufactured in order to make them easier to control.

Was just put up

Edited to new link as original was deleted.

Edited once again!

I'm in board. Huge GB fan from seeing the original premiering on HBO way back in 84. Real Ghostbusters, the toys, the eh NES game.

This isn't my GB but it doesn't have to be. Mine ain't going anywhere. These ladies look like they have the same chemistry as the original cast, the ghosts look equal parts terrifying and cool looking. The tech toys look like a ton of fun.

Wait, do you think 'dumb male secretary' is a sexist stereotype? Uhhh. What?

I don't think that's what he's saying.

More like, Hemsworth's only purpose in this movie is to be a role-reversal of a sexist stereotype. Which is pretty lame, considering the secretary in the original movie wasn't any kind of stereotype.

That's exactly what I was trying to say.

He was made director before they got the roles so that doesn't make sense as to why he got the gig really.

Pssssst

Negotiating shit takes time

And/or he got the gig and brought them in, which makes since because McCarthy is really bankable and Wiig was on the Joe Schmo Show

How is that lame?

I don't know if 'female secretary who doesn't give a fuck' was a stereotype before Ghostbusters but I've seen it in way more things than I've seen 'male version of the female airhead secretary'.

Plus Janine was not in any way shape or form a feminist icon.

It clearly is sexist, he is hired because he is eye candy, he is dumb and ditzy. And again, why pick Ghostbusters to push this agenda? The original didn't have Janine as eye candy or dumb and ditzy? Also I am not so sure that fighting fire with fire is the most mature way to address stereotypes or sexism is it?

Ghostbusters 2 arguably did just that with Janine. So I think it's fair game.

That's exactly what it is imo. And for a director who so strongly believes in "equality" and has been so vocal about how women have been treated in Hollywood it smacks of hypocritical behaviour.

Surely the best thing to do if you are trying to make a political point about equality is have a team of male and female Ghostbusters and avoid stereotypes? Instead of behaving like a child and sticking fingers in your ears and blowing a proverbial raspberry?

This movie does feel rather sexist with Hemsworth and what's funny is the people who dislike this movie are the ones being labelled sexist, just because Hollywood has made sexist roles for women before doesn't mean the way to go against that is making a sexist role for a man, that's the childish way to deal with it.

There is too much agenda behind this movie that's the issue.

How is it sexist though? A character like that being played by a woman is sexist, because it feeds into stereotypes that exist for women. Those same stereotypes don't exist for men.

This is some real #AllLivesMatter shit.

Some of y'all need some perspective on life. It's a movie. It's going to be fun. Take your kids, grab a coke and a tub of popcorn and just try to enjoy life a bit.

youtube comments will point you to the reasons for the dislikes:

women:
Hate this crap, it's an insult to all Ghostbusters fans out there. And yes, I'm not cool with the women squad. I mean WTF!?

nostalgia (what does "shit on the original" even mean?):
They continue to rape my fond memories of the movie:(
this is shitting all over something that people watched for years,
it's shitting on the original one and is an unnecessary remake
I think that might actually be worse than the first trailer. It shits all over the original and still isn't funny.

bandwagon:
Ι disliked without even watching it.
I just coming here to join the Dislike wagon.
I'm here just to push dislike.

who knows?:
Are Sony proud of this piece of shit? Are Sony proud that they've made something that's going receive one of the worst reviews in movie history?

Janine was a different stereotype - she was the disinterested secretary, the secretary that was irritated and barely wanted to do her own job (a stereotype that almost exclusively is used on female characters). She was then bumped over to "weird nerd girl" stereotype when they paired her with Tully, for some reason.

Because it's funny and Ghostbusters are comedy films?

Having the Ghostbusters keep an incompetent secretary due to sexual attraction seems out of place to me. I just don't get why that needs to be there.

It's also funny when a teenage boy fucks a warm apple pie, but that doesn't mean that it belongs in Ghostbusters because "comedy".

Well this was better, that bit about "well you girls can handle it!" was a good starting joke. This actually was a better trailer with decent editing. I'm wondering (actually I have been for a little while) if that last trailer just wasn't a good trailer in relation to the film and that the trailer editor and whoever else who worked on just didn't do that good a job on it. I know it's tended to happen before.

Ya Rick Moranis was the idiot in the original, not Annie Potts.

I liked it, quite a bit. Some jokes were funny, some not, kind of like in the first trailer, but it looks like good fun overall. Still that fan trailer can't be beat.

How do they unlock special emoticon just by tweeting? Has there been an Android and iOS update that added this?

The fan edit trailer was so much better. so I think that is the case.

I agree it does fall short of the original but my point is there is no way this movie will be better than Ghostbusters 2, you can see that even based on the trailers that it won't be.
I think this will easily be better than GB2. I'd rather forget GB2 existed tbh.

Not a Ghostbusters fan. Just caught up on all the drama surrounding this movie. It isn't out for another two months? I assumed it was coming out this week with all the hullabaloo.

It really does look like shit though. No problem with the cast being women, but Melissa McCarthy is just pure awful. Literally anyone else but her.

This is enough for me but t's not all that critical to the statement anyway. One of the Ghostbusters talks about the end of the world, just like that classic movie you remember liking.

I'm commenting on it because it's my biggest peeve about these conversations (the "x character is filling in for x"). That said, this image is utterly uproarious, seriously. On the left is a person with bleach-blonde hair (a pompadour??) and red round glasses. On the right is a person with non-bleach-blonde hair (that doesn't come out like Egon's does) and tinted goggle-like glasses. It's really stretching things, trying to find whatever evidence may exist (or in this case not) to justify the viewpoint of the cast being a genderswap. Feig didn't look at the cartoon and decide to base her on him visually.

hollywood: has long history of sexism against women in film
hollywood: makes one dumb hot male character
men: absolutely lose it

Still looks good. As a huge fan of the originLs I'm looking forward to this. Been rocking with Leslie Jones for like 15 or 20 years.

I don't have a strong attachment to the viewpoint or anything, but it's not like my mind is going to change either. Whether her character acts like him or not, I'm confident there was an attempt to find a "lanky one with glasses and weird hair."

I mean you call it a stretch right after doing a stretch of your own, nitpicking details, like whether Sonic has green eyes or not.

But we can disagree on this, that's fine.

eh, was an alright trailer, probably won't see it in theaters but wait until redbox since movies take like 4-5 months to come out on dvd/ blu ray now

only thing I hate about this movie is the decision to have cameos of the old crew instead of having them at least help or give them a tutorial on how the weapons work, 10 minutes max for the old crew, they couldn't have done that?
or have the ghosts kidnap them because and one of the crew members is their daughter or niece and they give them a message from a ghost world to help them, something like that
