Ghostbusters Trailer 2

Faith in Paul Feig is the only hope some of us have.

It's honestly all I need. People can bring up the tired "If you can't find 2 minutes of your film to put in a trailer that'll make me laugh then your movie sucks" sentiment all they want, but there have been tons of bad trailers to good films.

Most trailers to Edgar Wright's films have been underwhelming to me, but his films are awesome. Give me a good director track record over anything else any day of the week.

He isn't a known name I would imagine with the broader audience.

True, but I also don't think the YouTube like/dislike disparity is reflective of general audiences as well. A lot of is people jumping the bandwagon of downvoting a big trailer into oblivion and not indicative of how many people will see this that 1) aren't die hard nostalgic fans of the original Ghostbusters and 2) think that it'll look funny enough to see, especially since the characters may relate to an audience that's typically been underserved in comedic action roles (women).

I remember watching the trailer to the first one in front of 10 Cloverfield Lane and it got laughs. There were even two guys behind me and one of them said something like "Eh, you should give it a shot" to his friend. If the reviews for this are solid and people who are actually watching this end up recommending it to coworkers and friends, it'll be fine regardless of what the cesspool of YouTube comments feel.

So you're saying that the two look similar because the basic premise of Pixels is that a group of misfits must team up to stop a greater threat? Huh, it's almost like they got that from something else...

I agree. I'm just throwing some slight reasoning onto the giant dumpster fire. This is just a mess.

I had part of a slinky, but the Internet straightened it.

Do I really need to go back through this thread and every Ghostbusters thread and find every single post made that either implies or outright states that the movie looks bad because the user thinks it looks "similar" to Pixels?

This has been a common observation since the first trailer premiered.

Why else would they draw that comparison? Pixels isn't a revered film on NeoGAF or the Internet as a whole.

Holy smokes, all that inane analysis of the Pixels and Ghostbusters trailers. They're both sci-fi comedy movies with candy colored cg. Both have bad jokes. People draw a comparison. This isn't some conspiracy.

They clearly heard the complaints from the previous trailer and rather than focus on the way that the film is going to try to be different (mainly focusing on the female cast, the time frame, and Feig style humor) they clearly focused on how the film relates to the original film.

There are so many nods to the original movie in this trailer alone, that it is hard to see this as a reboot any more than a female centric remake. With that said... I will still see it in theaters.

This trailer was much better than the last one but it gave out too much of the story. Should of just cut this one down a bit and released this first instead of the last trailer. But at this point it's gonna be a "dvd" viewing instead of a cinema trip.

The criticism and "internet justice" against the trailers for this movie make me a little uncomfortable. It feels... gamergatey.

Lotta cross over. A tweet I made criticizing some of the logic in AVGN's video was quote tweeted by a film blogger, and then a bunch of gators descended on me.

This movie looks like a lot of fun.

I grew up with the Ghostbusters. I loved the first two movies, I loved the cartoon series (before it turned into "Slimer and the Real Ghostbusters," ugh), and I loved the PS3 and Xbox 360 video game.

This movie will never make me feel like how I felt watching the originals, nor will it make me crack up like those movies did when I was 9 years old. I also don't care. The cast they've assembled for this movie are incredibly talented, funny actors and actresses, and at the very least, I expect to be entertained. It may not be a great movie, or a good movie, but I have no doubt that I'll have fun in the theater, if anything because of the strength of the comedic chops of Wiig, Jones, and McKinnon. Hemsworth also has great comedic timing. The only one I'm not familiar with is Melissa McCarthy, because I've never seen her work, but she seems fine in this movie as well.

The worst thing that could happen is that the movie sucks, and I just toss it into the "forgot it already" bin, along with a bunch of other bad movies I've gotten over and just move on. I'll always have the older Ghostbusters movies and cartoons that I enjoy.

I want this attempt to keep the IP relevant and alive works, but if it doesn't oh well. I'm sure Sony will try again in a few years, and keep trying until something sticks. The thing about film IPs is that they're just that, IPs. The studios will try and get as much mileage out of those IPs as they can. Sometimes it works out (see; Creed, Mad Mad: Fury Road, and Star Wars: The Force Awakens). Sometimes it doesn't (see; Fantastic Four 2015, and some other crap reboots/revivals that I can't think of at the moment; I'd say Jurassic World, but I actually enjoyed that movie for the dumb fun that it is, and it made a lot of money).

My wife thought they showed too much in this trailer, but she still thinks the movie looks like a lot of fun. She's also a diehard Ghostbusters fan, and grew up with the originals and cartoon as well.

Not good. Less bad than the first trailer, but very not good. MAY watch this when it comes out on video. MAYbe.

I think it looks fine. Better than the trailers for spy, which I loved after actually watching it. I trust them enough to make a good ghostbusters movie. I'm just not sure if I trust them to make a good non-R ghostbusters movie.

Actually, my big concern is that they seem to showing a lot of setpieces. I'm hoping they don't throw too many in that get in the way of the characters.

I didn't have as much of a problem with this movie.... until it became a remake and not a reboot. Seriously, are we seriously pretending the original didn't exist? Look if you are making a new ghostbusters you have to go the starwars route and kinda have to pay respect to the originals. Fuck I wanted to like this too, I thought spy was great and when this was first announced I thought the point of the cast was to separate this movie as something new, or at least a nod to the extreme ghostbusters which did this shit way better.

what criticism feels that way to you? and wtf is "internet justice" against this movie?

Have you looked at twitter or reddit lately? Tons of sexism over this trailer. And the down voting on YouTube for these trailers and people commenting saying, "I downvoted the trailer for what it's worth" feels very "for great internet justice etc". I don't know, it's just not a good look.

Did you watch this trailer? Looks like there will be plenty of nods to the original.

Thought it was better than the first trailer.

Didn't laugh, but I don't find comedy trailers funny so I'm not surprised. Really really love the big bad being the logo. Really awesome and fun stuff. Shame it wasn't a surprise, though.

I'm going to watch the movie, but the comedy looks "slightly worse than unfunny" at best and "obnoxious" at worst. But hey, the CGI looks amazing!

.

What? That Scott pilgrim trailer looks fun to me, I would want to watch the filmm after seeing this trailer. This neoGB, however. not really ..

It was better the the first one, but I still didn't laugh.

Hopefully this pulls a Spy, because that movie looked like shit in all of the trailers, then it came out, got good reviews, and ended up being pretty damn funny.

I'm hoping it's just a case of bad trailers for a good movie but so far this is doing nothing for me. I want this to be good since I like the cast and there's potential but so far it's missing it.

The first one was dark and funny. I know this is a new movie with a new direction, but it rings more like a bad SNL skit than a Ghostbusters movie to me. this is entirely based off a trailer, but I'm not impressed

*blink*

Ghostbusters was originally conceived as an SNL skit.

I like this trailer much better then the first. The ending scene was pretty funny as well, I'll see this in theaters.

Edit: Also, when is that remix track from the trailers getting released Sony? I need it in full!

...i...i admit the last joke of the trailer got me.

However the mosh pit joke, it was...like, dude, people are already pointing out your one POC character is pretty stereotypical and potentially problematic, do you really want to bring race as a joke in the movie?

I like most of the cast, but it all feels lifeless. I think the reveal about
Hemsworth being possessed is a bad idea. I liked the idea of him just being the receptionist and not a major plot point.

Honestly, that's a much better trailer than the first. But I think I'm gonna have to see an uniterrupted scene before I'm sold (or not). The trailer music is just awful with that electronic remix and it sours me.

I believe you are getting very worked up for no good reason. I haven't suggested either film is poor quality.

By this metric, we can't compare Ghostbusters to Ghostbusters as well.

It's a better trailer than the first one. But it is still not something I want to see.

Though I do love me some Michael McDonald...but he was also in The Heat and that sucked so hard...

This just looks like most other modern Hollywood comedies. Characters shout dumb gags at the audience, everything's over-the-top, etc.

Certainly the original Ghostbusters had them actually being wary and afraid of the ghosts, starting right off with their approach to the library ghost. Here it becomes a projectile vomit gag where half the cast stands around watching and declaring it funny/awesome.
