GI: BT headsets won't work with PS4, USB headset support requires post-launch update

I would hope so. I read somewhere that the audio quality of both the speakers and the headphone output match that of the vita, which is quite solid.

It'd be nice if the controller had a small headphone amp aswell so that at least a half decent set of headphones could be used. But that's probably asking a little too much and a little unrealistic.

I would be cool but seems doubtful like you said. I have an Astro mixamp, so will be looking forward to it being supported. But I also have a couple of portable headphone amps that I'm hoping would work well.

So will this work:

I never used a gaming headset, I just want to know if this is the right kind of thing which outputs game audio and not just voice chat.

Not too worried about the quality of the sound right now as I'm sure it will be better than my TV speakers (hard to tell left from right on my TV...)

? Thanks!

IGN posted an update with reply from Turtle Beach

Update: Turtle Beach's Dave Lowey tells IGN, "The new Turtle Beach PX4 wireless surround sound headset is compatible with the PlayStation 4 console, at launch, right out of the box. The headset will be widely available in stores in time for the PlayStation 4 launch. The XP510 and PX51 wireless headsets that were introduced earlier this year will also be fully compatible in the same manner."

thanks for the info. Looks like im covered, but that is awfully shitty of them for the other brands.

what about the PX5's, use them as if it was the xbox 360 (wired into the controller) but with a 2.5mm female 3.5mm male jack plug adaptor at the end where it goes into the DS4?

I have some PX5's that I use with my PS3 and Xbox 360 and Wii U, Xbox with wireless chat dongle. I hope I can keep them for both the PS4 and Xbox One and still use the chat function.

So still no word?
Nope, we'll probably get something either this week or at the start of next week. They have a peripheral chat scheduled for the 6th on their retail training site so details will probably be out by then.

Maybe the wrong thread, but I have this headset, the Turtle Beach x12s. I know I can use it for audio with the controller or my tv itself (I'll go with the tv since it needs USB power) but I'm wondering if there's an adapter of some kind or some way to use it as a mic as well? the 360 adapter that lets you use it for chat is too small, but if I can avoid it I'd like to not buy another set entirely. Anyone know if there's a method?

Thanks!

I tested a few pairs of 3.5mm smartphone headsets through the controller, and my iPhone ones didn't work, but my Blackberry ones did. I know Apple uses their own pin order on the jack, but just about everything else should work.

The packaged headset is hilariously cheap looking, but I'll be a lot of you already have something lying around that will work.

FYI.

If you can already get TV audio (remember the PS4 only has HDMI so you need something in between that will take the HDMI -> RCA like a TV or audio receiver) you just need to get a 2.5mm mic cable to 3.5mm. Like this one: http://www.turtlebeach.com/product-detail/cables-parts/ps4-chat-cable/464

My tv has an outlet to give me audio. That cable looks to be exactly what I want. thank you!

I wasn't sure if the cable would output to devices that weren't the 360, but this answers that. Seriously, thanks!

My Skullcandy PLYR1s and XP400 both work...sort of?

I have my Audio Output Settings set to:

Primary Output Port: Digital Out (Optical)
Audio Format (Priority): LPCM

When I try and play a movie in Netflix that supports 5.1, Netflix only allows me to select Stereo instead DD 5.1 Plus. Changing Primary Output Port to HDMI brings back the audio option.

I noticed that my receiver lights up with LPCM and PL II (Dolby Pro Logic II) when using optical setting versus just LPCM when using the HDMI one. I guess multi-audio output is just the default now versus a toggle on PS3?

So yeah I'm confused...which settings should I be using for my headsets to get proper the proper virtual 5.1?

My Turtle Beach headset uses the same setup as the Astros so I'm hopeful I can use them.

If not then this is exactly why I bought a two year warranty on them.

My Turtle Beach XP400s worked just fine for wireless audio. The headset also showed up under Bluetooth devices (for chat) but when I tried to pair it it failed with a "profile not found" error. That second part was expected though...just wanted to try it for shits and giggles haha

There's loads of PS4 headset threads now and wasn't sure which would be the best to ask in.

Has anybody got a Pulse Elite headset working on their PS4 yet? I really want to get a decent headset and this seems OK, I'd prefer to have full surround rather than virtual surround so I'm looking at a few but I need to make sure that I get one that is going to work on the PS4.

Also, if people are using other headsets on their PS4 I'm happy to listen to recommendations.

It works by plugging it into the controller, but I don't think/know if you are getting the same audio you would get if it worked through the USB dongle thing.

Thanks, that's a real shame. I wish Sony would just announce a fully functioning PS4 headset that works well. I'll leave it for a bit and see what happens with headsets.

I used the Pulse Elite as a mic last night for a few hours or so and I went from full charge down to one bar.....I'm guessing the thing is a huge drain when it's turned on, but the chat audio is so much better than the earbud.

At least I'm hoping the thing is a drain, otherwise my controller isn't going to last more than 5 hours.

I've decided to hold of ordering after watching that video as they said this...
You are going to see some new technology coming in the not to distant future that's really going to make you excited to use PlayStation headsets...I'll leave it at that.
They could of course be talking about current headsets but I'm tempted to wait a few months to see what happens.

My guess is he's hinting at their rumored VR headset. He's way too giddy for it to be just another audio headset.

I'd still wait for the console to get patched before purchasing a Pulse though.
