Giant Bomb #9 | More Dan Meets The Eye

And the Dan-Brad rivalry continues to grow with those statements.
Brad really isn't pro-MOBA when he refuses to play any others except Dota 2, and only played that because his friends were way into it. If not for Kessler, he would be on the same hate train.

Ok, I haven't listened to a gaming podcast since the 1up Implosion, but I think i'm ready to give GB a shot. Is there a certain period that is considered classic? Like the Luke, Shane era of the 1up Yours or GFW?

It's funny you say that considering I got into Giantbomb after they kept showing up at the 1up yours E3 parties and thinking they were hilarious.

I mean, the "Classic" Giantbomb podcast are the ones that had Ryan on them, but I couldn't really tell you a range off the top of my head.

Honestly, there's no better time than the present. If you want a "best of the best", listen to one of the This Year compilations. The 2013 one is great, though you can be forgiven for skipping the Ryan Davis memorial at the end. Then if you like, start listening weekly.

He deleted the tweets. I guess someone got to him... maybe he was drunk.

It's always the same shitty pattern. He's says something fucking stupid, everybody shit on him and then he deletes the tweets and "appologise"...

The schtick is getting old.

I don't care about the actual opinion (I hate mobas for what it's worth) but the juvenile trolling annoys me. Seriously grow up.

The
UnderDraker
was probably my favorite part.

No, the best part is that Jeff removes not one, but two track jackets to reveal his RUN GFB shirt.

You know, being a wrestling ref must be extremely easy, right? Their whole thing is to be super bad at their job, as far as I can tell.

Jeff ? who ?

Sorry, I mean that Jeff, Dr. Tracksuit's manager, took the time to attire his client in two tracksuits before the event.

They're supposed to appear to be really bad at their jobs. It's a performance art, just like everyone else involved. A lot of times, they have to know how to take a fall too.

^amazing, Zach

I see. So, is wrestling art or a sport? Please decide so I can laugh accordingly.

So both.
But actually none.

Also, I'll have Life is Beautiful playing in my head for the rest of the day now, I hope you're happy, Brash. :|

I've been whistling it since I saw that tweet like an hour ago. I'm glad I could inflict someone else, at the very least.

I love how they keep cheating and they keep losing anyways. It was cool of Lang to opt out since he stole Miller's spot.

Damn, that looks like things got nuts. Hopefully the archive on twitch starts working tomorrow so I can watch it (the link is there on Past Broadcasts but it just redirects back to the profile page right now), I need to see this.

Looking for some good GB to watch tonight. Anyone know of any hidden QL gems or other videos off the top of their head?

Check GB Unarchived, maybe you'll find something you haven't seen, yet.

My go-to background noise consists of retro streams, a select few TNTs, and Jeff streams. I'm also working my way through old TANG episodes again, good stuff.

GB Unarchived forced me to watch Danny play a pigeon dating sim today.

Yes, it forced me.

What, I was supposed to not watch that once I found out it existed?

Excellent choice, love me some Ryan-helmed streams.

I.. have resisted going down that rabbit hole. The inevitable QL will probably tip me over the edge, though. Fuck me, lol.

You'd think that but I've seen plenty of matches over the years when a match was ruined because the ref fucked up counting to three.

Just curious does anyone know what the inside joke of skittles is?

Reference to an infamous piece of advertising when Skittles sponsored Raw. The commentators go crazy over Skittles.

Wrestling is an art and it's better than any sport. There's athletic performance, coordination, cooperation, playing a role, selling a beating, telling a story, improvising large sections of the match on the fly, focusing on maximizing crowd reaction. There's cutting promos, developing your character, legitimizing your opponent, and the meta-level competition of trying to make your match steal the show for fan attention and potential pushes. And it's all done live in front of tens of thousands of people live on TV with no do-overs or edits.

There's no seasons or breaks unless you get injured, all the while risking the loss of whatever momentum and prominence you had. And for night in and night out literally punishing your body in ways it's not meant to be punished, you get to have the societal stigma placed on you of "phony wrestler who plays to rednecks." This is ignoring the fact that wrestling thrives all over the world to all kinds of demographics and has been for decades.

Is wrestling often silly or stupid? Yes. But if you took a team of Hollywood writers, producers, actors, and stuntmen to produce new shows every week all year while traveling with no reruns or recycling content all to be performed live in front of huge crowds, something tells me they'd fall on their faces.

Wrestling could always be better, but so many people write it off so easily.

Sorry for the rant, but people dismissing wrestling is kinda my berserk button.

God bless you, Dan Ryckert. Shine on you crazy diamond.

Just when I was warming to him after his last trolling antics after the antics before that, he says this shit to rile people up so they insult him then he retweets the insults and all his circle jerk followers all have a laugh about it.

It's getting boring, fast.

I like DOTA (from a viewing perspective since I've only played a few games) , and I'm enjoying Dan's trolling.

Is there an archive for the Giantbomb PAX Panel?

Saturday official PAX stream goes up this week. Friday premium party stream is up on the site. Sunday Royal Rumble is on YouTube and Twitch archives.

After football and Dota, I wonder what widely loved thing I also enjoy Dan will troll next on Twitter, only to hastily delete the tweets the next day when the world descends on him.

Maybe Super Mario Galaxy, or Hearthstone, or Belgian fries with mayo, or Dark Souls, or sex.

Also, people should stop taking what people say on Twitter so seriously. If I did, I would really not like Justin Mcelroy (but I do!).

I know at the end, they said, "See you again at PAX East," but I hope that they somehow find a way to get an event going at PAX South. This wonderful sequence of madness looks like something you need to see live, and I wanna be there!

Last Rumble was perfect for those viewing at home, since the Giant Bomb panel was streamed, and we were able to get all the build up to the Rumble. Since the GB panel wasn't streamed this year, we were missing vital components to the story if we wanted to watch the Rumble happen live.

So yeah... I hope both Giant Bomb and the PAX Rumble make appearances at PAX South. What Jeff said at the premium event about him wanting to take Giant Bomb on a tour wherever gave me some hope that they make it to San Antonio in January.

Jeff has said before that two PAX events are enough for them, and that's likely to stay East and Prime since they're the biggest and most known. But who knows, they might do South to at least check it out one year.
