Giant Bomb #9 | More Dan Meets The Eye

There was a game that Jeff considered mediocre years ago and gave it four stars in his review, and left everyone scratching their heads.

I forget what it was. It's ridiculous to give a game a great score just because it has high production values. Call a game for what it is. If it's mediocre then it's mediocre.

Considering what he's said of the game so far, anything above 3 stars wouldn't be consistent.
Yeah I think there's a solid 50/50 chance of Jeff giving it 3 stars.

I want to see it happen just for the shitstorm that when it lands on metacritic as a 60 and ends up the lowest score or one of the lowest. People take that stuff so personally, it's great.

Crysis 2?

Looking at the reviews page now it's interesting to see that Brad hasn't reviewed a full game at all this year. Just Ground Zeroes and the Left Behind DLC.

Is this Jeff or what?

You know what, I guess no review. It's not like they do reviews anymore any way.

There's no review because Jeff's only had 1 day to play the game. He's said it's coming, he just wants enough time to actually play through the thing before pronouncing judgement.

In fact, I believe all media outlets have only been able to play the final game for one day now. So keep that in mind if you read any reviews today.

Looks like a lot of people are down on Destiny in the OT already. That Gerstmann guy may have been on to something.

I don't agree with Jeff's opinions sometimes (PT was the latest example), but his issues with Destiny line up with my experiences during the alpha and beta.

The most intriguing part of the Destiny reaction is that it really blows open the GOTY conversation.

I think a lot of people, such as me, were just assuming that Destiny was going to take it. I don't think that's likely now.

While Destiny could see some blow back no game should receive harsher criticisms than Watch Dogs. Game was hyped up for years, talked about on bombcasts for hours during the course of development and coverage and in the end it got a 3 star review from Jeff who was the only one on staff to play it.

Yeah, I knew Jeff was a wildcard when it came to Destiny.

Although I guess they could pull another TLOU and let the *biggest* game of the year win again. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Patrick beat it too since it was based in Chicago. He just waited awhile before he played it, he talked about it during one of the morning shows.

I think the majority of them actually believed that TLOU was the GOTY, not just because it was the "biggest." The only one in the room who didn't play it was Jeff.

It's getting an expansion before the end of the year isn't it? Wonder if that will affect anything (or if that's even allowed to be taken into consideration for GOTY deliberations).

I'm not saying they weren't into it. But anyway, the result matters little, I just want to see Dan throwing everyone for a loop this year.

I think when the dust settles he won't be seen as the "wildcard" at all. I think he's spot on about it.

Yup, I said as much during the stream yesterday.

Or go the complete other direction and rally behind Velvet Sundown.

So far South Park and Dark Souls are the only 'big' games I could see on the list and neither of them are gonna be at the top. Maybe Titanfall is on there too, but, eh.

It's gonna suck if the only variety in the game comes from the expansion DLC.

Do we have any sign that the expansion DLC isn't just going to be more of the same?

At the very least these early packs have to be in full production right now. I can't see fundamental changes happening this late in the game.

Having played Destiny back during the alpha and beta, it played like a really solid 4 star game but with ridiculous production values. I'm not getting the game any time soon, but the things i was interested in knowing is if it was going to be a grind and how much content is there.

So far, nothing has indicated that it isn't mostly a grind and that it's loaded with content. So, personally, it has all of the appearance of being a typical Bungie release: solid, good release that bungie/halo nerds are going to eat up but everyone else will think it's above average. The only difference is that it's probably bungie's best looking and presented game, on launch, since Halo 2.

but really, i'm hoping for another 8.8 TP style backlash from the internet because that shit is always entertaining to read.
