Giant Bomb Thread #4: A thread of perceived slights

Anyone else laugh a bit at how two developers got up and talked about the horrible future where computers track everything you do and corporations control the world like 20 minutes after a corporation explains how their new video game machine will follow everything you do and even download the games it thinks you want to buy

Watch_Dogs guy must have been fuming when he saw the Infamous guy out there doing his exact bit.

I don't think Patrick is actually a video game anymore based on his reactions to this conference. Seriously, the amount of snark he expounded is fucking hilarious. It makes Ryan look like an "Aw Gee Thanks" guy. Get off your high horse and enjoy video games, this shit is exciting dammit!

If only we could all be aw gee thanks guys

I really want a gif of the part where he looked wistfully off into the distance with a sad 1000 yard stare and the camera zoomed in just a little.

video games

I was actually really happy that Brad, Vinny, and Ryan (Patrick excluded as like some others have said, he seemed pretty neutral about everything. Though to be fair he is recovering after a surgery so he may just be tired.) all seemed to be genuinely excited about everything. People always say these guys are jaded so it was nice to see them be wowed by stuff. Actually, I am just happy to be excited about games again in general. This extended console cycle has been a real killer.

"Fuck the police!" never quite has the same oomph at a press conference for a giant global corporation.

I bet the guys at Sucker Punch Productions™, a subsidiary of Sony® Computer Entertainment have read The Anarchist Cookbook like, twice, to bring to life the feel of struggle against authority in Infamous®: Second SON, coming exclusively in Q2 2014 to the PLAYSTATION® 4 Computer Entertainment System.

The Sucker Punch dude was creepy as hell. I GOT HASSLED AT THE AIRPORT SO I MADE A GAME!

Was Dead Rising shown at the first 360 conference? I'm not trying to be facetious, I don't actually know. A lot of the stuff was more of the same, but there were a few games that looked awesome. At an event like this they are always going to roll out the safe bets, then later on the more interesting and unique stuff will start getting out there. The console seems powerful, the OS level stuff seems good, and Sony seems to have their head on straight. That was more than enough for me. I was also happy the focus was on traditional games.

I have no idea, but even if I just happened upon it I would be like "Fuck this game is amazing". I didn't really get that sense from the games shown in the presentation. Maybe I'm just getting older and I'm more resistant to smoke blowing up my ass but shiny paint doesn't get me hot anymore. When I saw that Killzone part I really liked how that game looked (graphically) but when they showed the gameplay I was instantly turned off. Son, I already played that game.

Same thing with that Knack game. It was really pretty to look at but when I saw the gameplay I just laughed in disbelief at how boring it looked.

But Patrick was my favorite video game. :(

I never really thought Patrick was a video game, but I guess this proves it.

Fuck I've had two glasses of wine and a bunch of beers okay????

Still my anger towards Patrick is unabated.

Oh come on. It was creepy and hilarious. It doesn't deserve ridicule it deserves laughter!

Big thanks to the GB crew. The stream was choppy as hell everywhere I went but not on their feed. I got the best experience by watching dudes 'watch' the stream. Was pretty entertaining too.

Everyone talking about how it was nice to see the Giant Bomb guys so excited are all right on the money.

I turned on the Polygon stream after the GB one ended and it was awful. McElroy was the only guy that wasn't so negative that it made me want to claw my eyes out.

Can someone explain the pure hatred for Patrick? Doesn't make sense to me.

He does get a lot of people riled up. I have tried to avoid Patrick hate after seeing the jackasses shitting on every little thing he does at every chance which I think is crossing a line sometimes. A lot of it is just because he is seen as "that other guy" and not part of the main crew I guess and people on internet like bulling people.

I do think he comes across a bit immature at times. He yells alot and whenever someone mentions alcohol he acts like a 17 year old sneaking a 6 pack and starts talking about that one time he got totally wasted.

I will say the bombcast is always better when he isnt there. Last year when he was out we got 4-5 of the best episodes of that year and the last 2 weeks with him out hurt have been great as well. I cant quite put my figure on why. Everything is just more laid back and friendly when he isnt on it.

It has happened too many times to be a coincidence.

Yes, it was a lot of fun. It kept my entertained through the duller parts of the conference, and the riffs on some of the presenters were amazing. The bit about the Evolution guy fucking cars was amazing.

It would be rad if the Giant Bomb guys did this again for other stuff.

I like Patrick. I think sometimes he gives off a "smartest guy in the room" vibe that is a little obnoxious but he seems like a good dude the majority of the time.

You can find small idiosyncrasies in anyone that'll bug you if you let it.

Hell yes to this. They made the whole thing enjoyable when I would have been completely bored if I was just watching the stream by itself. Great stuff by the GB crew.

watching Unprofessional Fridays from last week and apparently he'll be back this Friday and they expect him to talk about it then.

I don't get what people are saying about Patrick. He didn't seem like he was hating at all to me. The person I was most worried about was Ryan, but he looked like he was loving it. The most negative person seemed to be Brad, only because they didn't affirm his whole "four is a bad number in Asian cultures" theory.

Interesting exchange on Jeff's Tumblr:

Anonymous asked: What nobody's talking about is that the PS4 logo looks kind of funky? Don't you think the 4 looks a little off; too flat? Still, amazing conference. Probably the best I've ever seen. (Just saying that so it doesn't seem like I'm trying to find something to complain about.)

Jeff: I think I like the look of the 4. Didn’t mind it, anyway, but I see what you’re saying. I might be with you. Still sort of processing it, but I think they did a fantastic job and showed way more than I would have expected.

He flat out said there won't be a Playstation 5 before the show started.

Be afraid. Very very afraid.
