Giant Bomb Thread #4: A thread of perceived slights

That's not how Elizabeth got her powers ;-; Stop blaming the game for not paying attention, why ;-; (watching Vinny play is fun though)

The screwed up part is that you can't even correct them in the chat because

1. It is full of people screaming old memes and spoilers
2. They don't pay attention to it. (See 1)

Amazing that Brad is criticizing Bioshock Infinite story when he gave Heart of the Swarm 5 stars.

*gags*

I disagree with Brad's take on the story, too, but it's fair to say that storytelling and setting are much more important in Infinite than they are in Heart of the Swarm. Heart of the Swarm is still a satisfying game to play (with a fantastic, enormous multiplayer component) with its bad writing, but if BioShock Infinite's writing was as terrible as Heart of the Swarm's, the game would suffer immensely.

(Infinite spoilers)

This is super frustrating for me because I think Brad is technically correct with the whole "returning to the root" concept, but he's so down on the ending that it makes me sad.

Man I already want to replay this game, although I'll probably go through on easy to avoid some of the combat slogs.

Does Brad not understand what the "root" they refer to is
(booker being reborn)
? I'm just honestly confused about his current complaint, at the same time they're trying not to talk too much about the ending exactly until they get there so they're being vague.

Edit: Ok, Jeff totally didn't understand the ending. This is odd.

Not really spoilers per say but I'll do it anyway.
I think they give you the perfect amount of information really. Theres something to be said for an ending that instantly makes you want to discuss it with friends or other people. You don't HAVE to completely understand it right away.

It's alright that each Bomb member has a different interpretation. Not going to hate on Brad for seeing it one way while Jeff sees it another.

I think that's what makes it great.

But Brad's complaints just really don't make sense to me. He said earlier "they are lucky the narrative and art design are so good because it's basically COD in linearity".

Lucky? This wasn't achieved through some miraculous chance of luck. It was achieved through hard work and incredible talent.

Its great because even that part
is a callback to Bioshock 1. Which had a jump scare in the dentists office after picking up a tonic.

He doesn't if you
Choose to point the gun at the guy in the ticket booth instead of ask nicely. He never gets his hand stabbed that way, so he doesn't need a bandage.

Holy shit.

And yeah Vinny is taking less time than I expected.

I so badly want to start my 1999 playthrough.

.

And for a guy who plays vigi games as a job, not understanding the difference between a CoD FPS and the combat in a Bioshock is either really disingenuous or really alarming.

Braaaaaaaaad (more infinite spoilers)

Booker had Anna after rejecting baptism. Comstock wants a blood heir, and that's why he steals Anna.

Brad is actually the one that gets it more

he just doesnt like it, wich is weird

More doesn't really seem to mean much in this case :P

And his misunderstanding of why
Comstack wanted Booker's child as well as what the root was seem to imply a lot of them didn't really......get it? I don't know. Maybe I'm just misinterpreting their statements

heh, just realized the extra irony with
Booker yelling at Cornstock "She is not your Daughter!"

Man, medium is so different from hard. The only powers Vinny uses is shock and possession, I had to use pretty much every power, mostly upgraded undertow to sperate enemies.

once I got this on Hard it became almost all I used:

so good

I used undertow to give me some breathing room from the larger enemies like Patriots and Handymen.

Yeah used that a lot to, and the reduced cost upgrade makes it so useful. Never had enough to get the ammo upgrade.

I would make shock traps and pull enemies into them.

Undertow is awesome just because you can blast fools off of Columbia.

It's sorta useless when you upgrade bucking bronco's longevity, you can just melee them while they're hovering and they'll fly off into the abyss. Or just put a couple shots into them so they fly away.

Now undertow with Handymen, that shit will save your life.
