Giant Bomb Thread #4: A thread of perceived slights

Really bummed at Brad's Dead Island Riptide review. I totally agreed with him about the first and had a blast playing it co-op (even if the later areas were awful - ugh those sewers). Was hoping he'd give me a reason to ignore the other reviews and buy it. But nope, it's shite.

Hopefully it'll still be used for TNT this week - put those PC's to use!

To be honest the vibe I got from other places is that it's more of the same with some minor improvements/extras. Not really any worse than the first game.

I guess this is a bad place to voice this opinion, but I find Patrick's views extremely grating.

I guess it comes down to me being more optimistic and hearing him nitpicking everything to hell. It really bums me out when I listen to him, so much so that I can no longer watch quick looks with him in it.

You have very little ground to stand on if you don't give concrete examples.

Knocks the most open minded guy on staff as too critical. Okay.

Huh, if anything Patrick is the most open minded and still likes games that have issues.
edit: yup.

If anything Patrick's views are the least grating (excepting Vinny and Drew). I don't see how that can be when Jeff's around, oh man (Jeff's taste in games is pretty crappy but his views on the industry and journalism is great). He's the only one who gave MonHun and 999/VLR a shot.

He nitpicks yeah (Tomb Raider is the most recent example I can recall) but he's also the most open to trying out different genres that are outside his and the the rest of the crews' comfort zones. Loving the dumptruck features he proactively goes out and gets as well

Which one guys?

Left one.

The goatee is still absolutely atrocious, you guys are fooling yourself. Facial hair only works for people who can grow it properly. Anything short of full even growth looks terrible on anybody.

Who knows if he is actually going to play it, that is the office Vita according to his Twitter. P4G is a ridiculous time commitment to make for a system that he seems to only be borrowing to have stuff to play on his trip.

I think it's less nitpicking and more being analytical, he seems to actually think about the systems and mechanics of a game, while most of the other guys just go "I like/don't like this."

It begins.
Maybe Patrick will make it through the game. I think Brad quit or he just stopped talking about it.

Damn it you made me think he started Dark Souls.
I highly doubt he'll beat Persona unless he's going to go on a LOT of plane trips.

I'm bored and listening to 2010 Game of the Year podcasts...

holy shit Brad filibustering the SHIT out of it.

Brad v Jeff on Limbo/Dance Central

Brad v Vinny Minerva's Den/Shadow Broker.

Reminds me I need to get back to it. I have a weird phobia in RPG's of making the "wrong" decisions or not really knowing what I'm doing and ruining the experience and like 30 hours of playtime. Do I spend time with this guy? do I read a book? What if I forget to buy soda?

It gives me cold sweats. What's wrong with me!

Im the same way. I still haven't finished P4G. I just started playing it again this weekend after not having touched it for over a month. That's just how I am with rpgs.

Yeah, its really annoying, hes been doing it for years, and they always let him get away with it too. His arguments are rarely good enough to get them to agree with him, they just end up agreeing to shut him up it seems. Haha.

I think Vinny ended up agreeing with Brad just so they could get on to the next topic.

Why not use a walkthrough if it's got you stressing that much.

There in lies the rub. I want my playthough to be MY playthrough. Ironically, I want to play to relax. Not have a Vita setup with an iPad/Laptop scrolling through a .txt every 2 minutes to ensure I'm down the "proper" path. FAQ's make me worse, because a lot are written in a "Obviously, you must do this" way when it comes to RPG's. "You MUST put your points into this or else" and so on.

The only truly wrong choices come up at two points, and they are fairly obvious. You can still make it your own playthrough with what kind of social links you want and what sort of personas you use. You need a guide anyway for some of the personas combinations if you want a specific persona.

It's a "how and why" game not a "what and when" RPG. The boundaries will make themselves known obviously enough.
