Giant Bomb Thread #4: A thread of perceived slights

At this point I'm starting to think something's wrong. The content is really thin considering it's at the end of the day mostly just game footage with extra audio thrown in.

The problem with the Wednesday show was that it was basically a bunch of quick looks of the games coming out that week plus all the shitty ones nobody cared about, too much content overlap. Hopefully now that it's a monthly show more of that time be spent on a rotating cycle of stuff like Random PC Game, Flight Club, Breaking Brad, etc.

yeah the friday show actually had a good premise (just play something you want to play but haven't had time to), whereas wednesday was a bit odd, since it overlapped quick looks.

flght club and randomn pc game make more sense. the last spookin with socopsp was pretty great too

I feel like if the Wednesday show is literally just going to become the guys talking about what they played and reviewed that month, then they've created a show that literally none of their dedicated users has any interest in watching - because they've already seen this stuff, and I honestly don't know if there's a 'soft-hardcore' audience out there that cares enough about videos games to watch an hour+ video about them, but not enough to follow the individual sites during the month and get all the content piecemeal that way.

The Wednesday show always reeked of corporate mandate, no matter what anyone says. I'm glad it's gone, seemed like a waste of time.

While I skipped segments of the Monday show if they showed games I planned on playing (like BioShock Infinite) I really enjoyed it mostly due to the bad games that they were forced to play and obviously had no interest in. Having double coverage on games that were quick looked also would either get skipped or I'd just have it run in the background, so that wasn't ideal. But regardless, I still enjoyed watching it for the dumb stuff they'd have to play and for the banter.

But I'm not too upset over the show being gone. Just figured I'd note that I thought it was amusing.

To me, at least, it was clearly an attempt by CBSi to have Gamespot staff learn from GB staff how to act on camera and create content.

It's not completely gone. They said they would do it once a month now.

Still I am not quite sure why they did not just play a random PC game yesterday. It's not like they haven#t gotten enough from users.

half of the games on the wednesday show were games that had already been quick looked, reviewed, and discussed on the bombcast so it was redundant content, and the other half were games that giant bomb (or non-patrick giant bomb) was never going to cover and had no interest in covering, making discussions about them awkward and forced

I had a feeling that content would dry up once Patrick left the office. Content has been kind of slim ever since the CBSi move. It feels like there is barely a reason to visit GiantBomb if you're not a subscriber.

You people knew your fucking place before now. Back to the slums with ye!

The people who keep saying this must be visiting a different website than the one I go to.
Endurance Run, Encyclopedia Bombastica, Load Your Last Save, Random PC Game, Breaking Brad, Flight Club, Jar Time, Spookin with Scoops, Jurassic Lark, what happened to them all.

Granted there have been a couple of some of those recently but premium stuff is few and far between and its only going to get worse once summer drought hits.

They get all this cool shit in the mail, consoles and bundles of games, only for it all to get stacked in a corner and forgotten about. There are always off weeks and summer droughts, you'd have thought they would have the sense to plan ahead.

Theres always some excuse, oh so and so has taken a vacation, oh theyve just had a baby, oh we are planning for pax, gdc, e3, oh we are just back from pax, gdc, e3.

I realise they aren't performing monkeys but its getting a bit silly.

Where was that thing showing that they've had basically the same quick looks per week in the past 3 years as they always have. People should count some stuff up. It's not like we don't have access to data that can actually show whether or not content has decreased or increased after a certain time frame. We can actually prove it true or false.

Does anyone even care about Quick Looks, though?

This argument is more about the longer form content.

Been playing Monaco, and I'd love to see the group all try this on a TNT. It would undoubtedly end up hilarious. I wonder if anyone besides Alex has played it.

Edit: Damn, son! Shots fired by Ryan Davis.

@taswell Don't vote for Giant Bomb for a Webby, because it's not 1998 #bestviewedinnetscapenavigator

For those that don't know, several IGN editors have been urging readers on Twitter to vote for IGN for a Webby.

With just Unprofessional Fridays I'm paying 67 cents a week (got sub on sale) for ~ 2 hours of entertainment. I'm pretty happy with that.

They are gonna end up back in that gallery for E3 again

sounded like it from the bombcast. For their sakes, hope they can find cheap couches, or rental ones. Something other than the infested seats of death they had last year.

Hmm, let's connect the dots... last week's meeting, a comment about "producing more video content" on a recent bombcast (last week's, I believe), those twitter comments, same cheap place for E3 which they wanted to avoid at all costs.

CBSi, get your shit together!

But don't we want them to produce more video content?

The comment I addressed specifically was speaking towards non-subscriber content post-CBSi move. As someone that rarely has a chance to watch the TNT/Unprofessional Friday content live anymore, my subscriber needs were not feeling particularly lacking, but I can certainly understand the concern about specific videos in that listing, as it has primarily been the prior instead of the more subscriber aimed videos.

There are 7 pages of "Featured" videos, about 15 pages of "Quicklooks" videos, 5 pages of "Subscriber" videos, and podcasts/interview dumptrucks/events videos. That's around 650 videos, post-CBSi, on my count.

I'm not going to make excuses for how they choose to prioritize what games they do or don't play. The Friday Show seems to be a great space for them to trot out some of the things they have received, and they have done that a few times.

I constantly think everyone is visiting a different site than you are.
The way in which I perceive the world is filled with sunshine, happy thoughts, and everyone has a smile and a hug waiting to greet you.

This must have been when I dozed off. What'd they say also that's fucking hilarious and I'm glad it's happening.

They didnt say anything concrete. Just a joke/slight speculation off the comments from them having trouble finding a place.

I wonder if the decision to shitcan the Wednesday show was Jeff's own decision, and that sparked a power struggle with the suits on where GB should be headed.

Crazy prediction time, in a couple of years the crew will discover that the best profits are found making Youtube content from a makeshift studio at Jeff's house. Featuring the odd guest appearance by the roommate from hell.

Sure, the fun kind of video content. Not the "CBS said we have to do better (please don't fire us/merge us with Gamespot)" kind.

Is there really a difference though? It isn't like The Man telling them to record videos will suddenly make them act different.
