Klepek is leaving base? I don't see anything on the site and I've often felt they are poor on relaying information.

This assertion is ridiculous in regards to Patrick leaving. There may be an argument to be made about there communication of things, but Patrick leaving is not one of them.

he's talked about it in worth reading, on twitter, tumblr, the bombcast, an actual post specifically about it, and everyone else has mentioned it multiple times as well. Mailbags or the new xbox drm thing or mondays.

I dont know where you're looking but its been readily apparent info

Honestly, I think it just speaks to how few people visit their site (or how few people are capable of reading). People must really just go to YouTube and listen to the podcast.

Yeah, I was just going back to find a time stamp to reply to someone else and it was Jeff who said it around 14:00. Sorry, Ryan!

He seems to imply that this reveal just brings everyone to about even now policies wise, except that sony's console is $100, which is an advantage to them. So sony can't really coast on that bit anymore, though I think that sony has gained a lot more goodwill than they did coming into E3, which is advantageous for them.

Yeah I was surprised at how most of the videos linked here are to their youtube channel and not their website. I guess because the video player can still be buggy?

Actually speaking of bugs, I had one where after every video it turns into a gray screen and replays.

Good on Patrick today.

Shame the God-damned website let them down again. :( How does a company like CBS not have this shit locked down come any kind of traffic.

You know, we call him Scoops for a reason.

Did I miss a daily dota yesterday? Not seeing anything on the twitch channel.

But that's not even true. They've stated pretty clearly they think the Microsoft DRM bullshit was a mistake.

No didn't, unless you mean Alex Navarro's article? On the podcasts they came off very indifferent. And Patrick and Brad were on this crap about Sony will also have a similar DRM scheme, so they acted very tepid all the while things were gaining momentum. You wait and see...we saw and heard at E3 and Sony went the other way. Then they tried to play it cool...like....oh.

So yeah, as much as love GiantBomb I think we have let them off easy for playing shit down and in some cases outright brushing the outrage about MS DRM policies off. They like much of the major gaming sites were way too quite while things were happening.

I lived with that one for months. clearing out my cookies and cache often helped alleviate some of it, but not all.

My newest bug is the constant start/stop of the video and followed by a full stop and having to reload the page. I'm lucky if it remembers where I left off.

I dunno, patrick and vinny in particular were clearly upset about it in the video. Only Ryan and jeff seemed to be more upset at how unclear it is, and even jeff agreed that the policies were "fucked up".

I mean, what more do we need? Honestly. I'm kinda baffled.

I imagine that anything less than "foaming at the mouth angry" isn't enough for some people. Giant Bomb has taken a wait-and-see approach about a lot of things, so it isn't surprising that they don't go completely fucking bonkers about things like this. I don't see it as them trying to defend anyone in particular as much as it is being level-headed about things while they figure out how they play out.

They were obviously displeased about the DRM situation in that video. However, what I don't like is how the "wait and see" approach seemed to only be reserved towards Microsoft until E3 while they were so determined that the PS4 would just follow in the Xbox One's wake without considering the possibility that it would not.

Guess they had too much faith in whatever sources they got that from.

Yeah, it's hard to tell if they would have reacted the same if this sort of news was coming out of Sony. I would like to think they would take a similar approach, but obviously there is no way to know for sure.

should at least make the cbs suits happy

"Wait... so you're telling me the guy we're letting move to Chicago to work remotely is single-handedly responsible for tripling this site's highest traffic point? 'The fuck we need the rest for then? We already have Gamespot, AS I'VE BEEN SAYING FOR MONTHS!"

Could well be how they take it. Hah.

Heh, the implications that Microsoft undid everything Sony did at E3...

Sony caused this, predominantly, so I'm thanking Sony even more coming out of this.

I think it comes from just wanting to clarify what microsoft's stances actually are, and the assumption that the industry at large are together trying to control the policies of the new generation, which is not that unreasonable. I don't think that they are maliciously anti-sony.

Other than patrick's constant assertion that what sony did was a knee jerk reaction, where he might be a bit too stubborn with that stance, though who knows what happened behind the scenes vs what was told publicly?

Basically, this. People are surprised that people with a combined nearly fifty years experience in an industry don't react like their girlfriend just broke up with them about the actions of a corporation.

That video was much after the uproar and MS finally pulling their trousers down and directly shitting on consumers. They were basically cleaning up and finally addressing the issue after largely being indifferent and quite. I watch every video and listen to every podcast GiantBomb puts out and no way you're going to tell me they were vocal about being against these DRM polices MS tried to implement.

Give me a break. Fucking CNN and the BBC were more vocal than them. The major gaming press was mostly silent. They should have been foaming at the mouth over a issue like this as the impact on the consumer far and wide was fucking huge. 8-4, Annoyed Gamer, YouTube gaming personalities and the consumers seemed like the only ones that gave a shit while they waited for Sony to implement the same policies so they could say, "see, told you so, welcome to your DRM future".

Jeff's Tumblr:
I love Patrick, he's been an awesome addition, so don't think this is negative at ALL, purely curiosity, would you guys have hired Patrick if you knew in advance he wouldn't have stayed local?

We were coming off of doing a really astoundingly poor job of introducing a freelance news writer to the community, so I would have been skittish about having someone else start writing that wasn’t going to also appear all over the place, but if he had come in and said “I’ll give you a year or two, then I gotta get outta town,” we could have worked with that right from the start.

I’m happy/jealous that he has priorities in his life that don’t involve this job. I want to be more like Patrick when I grow up.

I guess I'm not as big fan of Giantbomb as I thought I was because I hardly follow any of that heh.
I don't remember it from the Bombcast or from the Xbox drm but then again I don't hang on to every word.

Just thought I'd see a headline story about it.

Vinny's Tumblr said:
So are you keeping your Gamefly account now that both the XB1 and PS4 allows game rentals? If so, what is the first Next-Gen game you gonna rent?

Vinny: Next up in my queue is Blue Dragon! I hear the cutscenes are basically like watching Toy Story at this point.
ahahahahahahahahaha

I hope this isn't just a joke on Vinny's part so we get to hear discussion about the greatest boss battle music on the Bombcast.

I don't mean to say this in a belittling way, but I don't understand why when people get news of a forthcoming announcement they get considerable accolades. I understand that the news story itself is big, but the idea that you did an awesome job reporting by relaying a message that was going to be relayed publicly already seems stupid to me. If you uncover information that was going to be withheld from the public I totally understand the accolades. However beating the messenger to the punch is not something I find to particularly impressive.

I don't mean to say Patrick shouldn't of posted the story or anything like that, of course he should. Just why does a story like this give you reporting chops. Finding out the dirty secrets in the infinity ward scandal is something I totally understand getting props for, this however doesn't seem like the kind of thing that people should be fawning over.

I agree, but whatever. If anyone is the "man of the hour" I'd say it would be FamousMortimer.

The interview with Marc Whitten that's on the front page right now is really hard to read. Patrick pushed him on some tough issues, but the guy was so on message that wading through his answers to find the actual info was quite tough.

"So what prompted this change?"
"AMAZING GAMES, THE CLOUD, EVERYONE LOVED OUR VISION... Oh, we just listened"

What exactly is wrong with giving your full evaluation once the full policies were revealed? The simple fact is that things were pretty fucking unclear before the full blowout.

It seems that you want active consumer advocacy, but the simple fact is that they're not active consumer advocates. Instead, they take what's presented and evaluate them, and then report on them, not fight against it. Which is fine, but you seem to think that not actively fighting against it is the same as joining microsoft in raping the consumers. Why should they foam at the mouth?

Vinny is probably going to be playing Blue Dragon, that's the first Giant Bomb staff member to play a JRPG since like, when Brad reviewed FFXIII?

EDIT: forgot Ni no Kuni

They should have been foaming at the mouth over a issue like this as the impact on the consumer far and wide was fucking huge.

They should be? Could you please outline exactly what their role is? I'm sure they'd be interested as well if you could clarify what their job is and what it entails because this is such a grossly hilarious way of analyzing this, I'm curious what you envision their goal is and what they signed up for.

At this point it's safe to say that Brad Shoemaker is a dirty Dota-hating liar and has abandoned us all.

I saw it on the upcoming LIVE panel on the Giantbomb site, but then Patrick dropped the bomb and killed the site, so who knows if they actually recorded an episode (I went to sleep shortly after).

There's nothing on GB's or Brad's twitch channel so I assume Brad "Last Hit" Shoemaker just skipped out on it.

Good on Patrick today.

Shame the God-damned website let them down again. :( How does a company like CBS not have this shit locked down come any kind of traffic.

It is a shame but it is hard to scale for sudden massive traffic spikes without building in capacity that will be wasted 99% of the time.. Gaf and Microsoft also collapsed under the weight. The latter being the most surprising - they should have hooked the xbox site up to the infinite power of the cloud.

"Wait... so you're telling me the guy we're letting move to Chicago to work remotely is single-handedly responsible for tripling this site's highest traffic point? 'The fuck we need the rest for then? We already have Gamespot, AS I'VE BEEN SAYING FOR MONTHS!"

or "Fire that useless Gamespot news department, we will just mirror the giantbomb feed".

I don't understand why it matters what GB thought of the XBONE DRM policies. Why do some people need them to be outraged? What does anyone gain from that? GB doesn't exist to confirm their users' opinions, but rather to have their own. If Jeff says he doesn't care about the 24-hour-login stuff (I don't think he did, but hypothetically speaking), who gives a shit? I mean I would disagree with him, but I'm not going to sit here and be outraged or say that he's stupid for thinking so. I feel it's often the same with game reviews, some people feel the need to have the review confirm their own opinion; if it doesn't match up with their own experience, the review and/or its score is bullshit.

Yeah. I think people would enjoy their content a lot more if they didn't take their opinions to heart. Ultimately their opinions won't change anything about the things you like, or the things that are being developed. So Jeff thinks HL2 was boring; who cares!
