I thought the Chrono Trigger ER become very watchable after the Guardia Forest debacle early on. That is a game I know top-to-bottom so I was a bit disappointed at some of the things they missed, but it never was a slog like some of the grindy/fusion episodes of Persona 4 was. It certainly didn't have the highs that P4 had, but I enjoyed watching it.

No. That thing was dull!

I think the CT ER was one of the early causes of the anti patrick crowd.

I'm almost certain they did that ER to quell any future ER requests. Mission Accomplished, if you ask me.

Some of the best parts of the P4 run were whenever they ran around and grinded. That tangential stuff is great.

So glad i watched the UnEpic quick look today because unenglish makes this game soooo much funnier.

Also, can't wait to see the QL or whatever Jeff is going to do with Knights of Pen and Paper. I am completely addicted to that game.

i hope they look at scrolls, its a pretty cool game. although it might not work so well in a quick look if they don't learn it before

I thought Deadpool looked pretty fun in the quicklook despite them shitting on it the whole time. It will make a fine $5-10 steam purchase in 6 months

Yeah it looks like a good podcast game to pick up in a sale. I think 5 would be the point at which I'd buy it though.

It's extremely frustrating how often the GB crew (and games journalists in general, I guess) miss out on things the game wants them to do. I mean, Ryan talked about having to unlock the weapons in Deadpool despite the things saying "BUY ME!" on them.

Ryan killed it on 90% of the podcast last week for me.

Especially his understanding of how fans were worried about Dark Souls II because he could relate with Dead Rising.

The fact that Ryan doesn't "get" Dark Souls is very disturbing to me. He doesn't understand one of the best games of the generation? Wonder if he ever gave it a chance. There's nothing like the feeling of taking down your first boss.

It annoyed me that there were constant "B" prompts over enemies that Ryan didn't seem to be responding to.

He played a good amount (at least an hour) on a live stream once and seemed to enjoy it. He did admit it wasn't something he'd play outside of that context though if I recall correctly.

He's shown he absolutely gets it, but doesn't think it's something he wants to invest his time into. He played the beginning of Dark Souls on a livestream once and completely bossed his way through it.

Yeah, I remember being completely baffled how well he handled some situations in that stream (atleast better than I did at that point in the game).

There are a ton of people that don't "get" it, just like there are some popular things I'm sure you don't "get".

I think he pretty much explained himself well. Said he appreciates the game, but it isn't for him. Nothing wrong with stating an opinion.

I wonder whats going to happen to Ryan if GB shuts down.

Jeff and Brad could easily make the jump to some kind of producer role. Both know what they are talking about and have a good work ethic.

I guess Harmonix or Double Fine could pity hire Ryan as a Community Manager or something.

First he takes Chris Remo's memes. Now he takes Chris Remo's job. Where does it end.

Are there any must watch daily dotas? Have not watched one since like the first. I know the game to understand what's going on.

How many people are going to ask Jeff what he thinks of review scores? It seems like every time there's that guy who just saw a review number they didn't like and need to have Jeff tell them that review scores don't matter.

I don't know, Chrono Trigger fans can be preeeetty crazy.

Haha. And that's pretty mild relative to other fringe cases of fandom you can find (fanfiction for any number of different games (Sonic/Zelda/Mass Effect etc) springs to mind).

The centre of the bell curve of Souls fans are neither here nor there in the broader spectrum, like every fan base in existence. It's only ever the keyboard smashing, sexual innuendo ('what does Tali's sweat taste like?') and similar outlying nutcases that colour people's impressions negatively.

Trying to listen to this Jar Time while some muppets in the office next door are installing some hardware with hammer drills :/ Ruining my morning.

Dark Souls fans are generally helpful, but set in their own ways to the point where they sometimes seem like jerks.

Yeah I've wondered about this, because it is certainly true in many cases. Do the rigid mechanics of the Souls series beget the (sometimes) rigid thinking of its fans? Does the niche appeal of the animation-priority high-risk-high-reward gameplay appeal to certain personality traits?

Both of those questions are flummoxing when yo look at the Blizzard forums for Diablo or WoW, given the relative ease of entry into both of those games but the incredible complexity of maths behind how different skills work, and yet their forums are largely a den of supine, protoplasmic invertebrate jellies.

Interesting things to consider when reading FAQS or forum chatter around these games.

Yeah, and that guy was a moron, and totally derailed the thread and any reasonable criticism that was being expressed. It's one of those examples where you don't focus on the reasonable, but on the insane people and fringe cases.

There was very little reasonable criticism in that thread. Half of it was people hating on Patrick because they hadn't gotten to like him yet. The other half was people blowing the forest thing way out of proportion. That thread only became tolerable once the hyperbole died down and we got people talking about how and why they love CT. And once we got past that point we mostly had people going 'huh, this looks pretty cool, maybe I should pick it up'.

Have you seen the Running of the Lanterns? Ryan is pretty competent when it comes to games. I just don't think he cares all too much to invest time to get good at one particular game. He beasted in War Lords too.

Yeah, that was really the most disappointing part of that ER. Very shortly after it started, because of comments like that, it was impossible to even talk about it. Any comment about it instantly lead to people accusing one another of comparing video games to rape. It shouldn't be hard to realize when someone is a fucking lunatic, stupid people like that shouldn't even be acknowledged or part of the conversation.

Wacky drive-time radio host.

How much longer will Crispy endure the Daily DoTA? He sounded close to breaking earlier today.
:o

Nothing a couple divine rapiers can't fix!

I don't know what the secret best part of the daily dota is: Brad acting all surprised ("oh GOD") every time the your game is ready prompt shows up, or Kessler getting hazed.

I think it's because a big part of those games is figuring out what works for you, and struggling through that world on your own. The guy who got deep into INT magic can't imagine playing that game without magic, the guy who crawled his way through with spear and shield can't imagine playing the game without a greatshield, and then there are the crazies that parry/riposte and ninja flip there way through the game without a shield and barely any armor. They're all valid ways to play, but it can be difficult to experience different styles of play on a single playthrough, since you can't respec your character.

What makes Dark Souls so good is that all of those styles of play will excel and struggle in different parts of the game. Areas and bosses that I thought were extremely difficult with one build were a breeze with another, and vice versa.

watching that moment, live, after all that pre-flight checking, was a moment that will stick with me for a long time.

Which UPF is this from? I remember watching one where Drew spent 30 minutes telling Jeff (maybe it was Ryan) how to take off and then there was the hilarious crash 1 minute later but that was in a distinctly sunny day and I haven't caught up on the UPFs for the past couple weeks. Was there another time when they played with that flight sim?

I think Deadpool looks pretty cool. Not game of the year material or anything, but I think if you know what to expect going in, it looks like it could really deliver. I actually thought the GB QL for it made it look like a good time, despite the crew's best efforts to put it down.
As someone who has no affinity for the character, me too. The spoken humor was real bad and force but it looked like it could be dumb fun. The end level score total was silly and Jeff tried to get some positive reaction from it with Ryan and he was silent.

I don't recall them ever mentioning it's a "budget" game either.

I just wish they had a little bit more Vinny in them, to at least make their own fun if they clearly are bored with going through the motions.

Has the video player acting really shitty for anyone else lately? It's been randomly ending the video out of nowhere and doing the thing where pausing the video for a few minutes will reset it.

Just started happening again a few days ago.
