Giant Bomb Thread #5 - We love you, Ryan Davis

Has anyone else, like me, still been downloading the Bombcast but still can't bring themselves to listen to it again yet?

I still have the Ryan tribute episode to listen to but I'm really not sure about listening to it yet as I've got some 'other stuff' going on in my life at the moment and I'm not sure if I'm in a place to check it out yet.

Is the Ryan episode particularly emotional (which would be entirely understandable) or is it an uplifting celebration of his life etc? I know might make me sound like a massive pussy but it is what it is.

I'm still listening, but unfortunately the quality has dropped off. Without Ryan to focus them it really is a bit too much about nothing. I will continue to cut them slack though as they struggle through a very difficult time. Even though the podcast has dipped in quality, it's still one of the best out there.

It's mostly funny with them telling stories about Ryan. There are moments where it becomes overwhelmingly sad, you can hear them trying not to cry a few times. Especially the ending. The ending is brutal.

Thanks for the heads up. That's sort of what I was expecting. I'm sure it's a fitting tribute to the man.

I fully intend to listen to it but I might listen to the newer episodes first and just gently ease myself into the Bombcast again.

Like you say I suppose that's understandable. Obviously it's a very emotional time for everyone and they still have to find their footing.

It reminds me (though not the same) when Luke left 1 Up Yours and everyone felt as though the sky was falling but Luke's leaving gave Shane the ability to really step up the plate and shine.

It'll take time but I have no doubt they'll get there.

I love the bombcast BECAUSE of it's tangents so I'm fine with the most recent episodes. But Ryan always was great at dialing them back into games. Instead of a 75/25 not games to games split it's like 90/10 lately. I'm probably exaggerating but whatever.

He can;t come back to games journo, at least not untill daughter is out of college because games journo can't pay for that and his current job can.

But just as much guest appearances as possible, YES PLEASE!

I don't think any of us has enough knowledge of Jeff Green's family's financial situation to make claims like that.

Is anyone going to be too sad if they use this as an excuse to kill TNT? Other than the need for more content I would rather see them do something else.

Weird that Jeff didn't know you can play any game on the Shield via BPM and it works great as long as their is controller support.

Even in the short tutorial Vinny was getting more Last Hits than Brad gets in a full match :P
Support tide vs carry sniper. There's teasing, and there's just being silly. If Brad had hogged the lane for last hits, he would have been a shit player. He should have warded more, but it's so hard to find a support that actually wards outside of high level games.

So...this was me.

I listen to the podcast each week, every morning while I run. This has been my routine for years. Each episode will last me 3-4 days.

When Ryan passed, I hadn't finished his last episode yet. It remained on my podcast until I could get it together emotionally. I listened to his last Bombcast, and then it took me a few days to prepare myself for the tribute episode.

I finished the tribute episode over 2 days and then I just couldn't bring myself to listen to any episodes without Ryan after that. I wanted to, but subconsciously I knew I just didn't.

Until this morning. I finally put 7/30's episode in and had a pleasant (manageable?) time adjusting. I think it's going to take a long time for everyone (the crew especially, but also fans) to settle into a Ryan-less world. But I appreciate the crew is trying their hardest and making sure "the show must go on." I honestly believe Ryan would have wanted it that way.

Thank you, Giant Bomb, if you're reading this. And rest in peace Ryan Davis. You are truly missed.

came to talk about that godlike Vinny kill

#BIGPLAYS

for those who don't know, the opposing team's most powerful hero at the time was bounty hunter. he's a melee dude who can kill you very quickly and also go invisible.

they caught him in like a 4-1 and he was close to death, but he cloaked and it looked like he was going to get away

then Vinny (as sniper) tossed his shrapnel ability (basically an extremely low damage aoe airstrike) in bounty hunter's path and killed him without seeing him

it was freakin awesome

Yo man that sounds awesome, Ima go watch the Daily Dota now.

I watched that Patrick/Alex thing and I really like it. Surprisingly enough, Giantbomb doesn't have an in-depth discussion about topics swirling around the gaming industry and this video fulfills that niche quite well, and gets Patrick and Alex some exposure too. I hope it sticks around and Alex gets that soundboard he wants.

The best part about the daily dota game...

The bounty hunter went battlefury.

#probuild #ezgameezlife

Also the sven went MoM against a Zeus before he had bkb.

Just noticed Papers, Please is now listed on Steam and the full version released next week. First thing I thought of was Ryan, and how much he loved the beta and was looking forward to the full game :(

It was because of Ryan and Jeff I even know of this game.
